    Hi Guy, Bought my 1st carbon fibre bike. A Specialized Sirrus Pro Carbon. Nicest bike I've owned, this is bike # 10 im my 59 yrs of riding bikes all different brands, Columbia, Royce, AMF, Schwinn, Bridgestone, Univega and now Specialized. Odd how fenders have come back as they were standard on many models from 1950s & 60s in USA. Enjoyed your presentation. Explaining different frame types.🚲🇬🇧

    Hybrids are whatever you want them to be.
    But mostly a true all purpose bike.
    I have a Merida Crossway 10 which I actually got as a present 5 years ago.
    It got me back into biking after 30 years.
    Now it's part of my life and it's a commuter, tourer, shopper and cargo bike all in one.
    It will go on tracks or trails a road bike wouldn't go near and it's a better bike on the road than a MTB.
    But it's definitely no competition to either a real road bike or an MTB in their own domains.

    Thanks for the post. I recently got myself a Crosstrail and can fully vouch for its all round abilities. Ive done around 1200kms on a mix of gravel, off road and road riding. Great bike!!The seat didnt suit me and once i replaced it i fell more in love with this bike.

    I liked the statement that a hybrid is whatever you want it to be. Making your own is fun. I swapped out the saddle, pedals, and tyres on a Dolan Ares (second hand) to make a bike I can commute on. The previous owner had changed the drops to straight bars.
    My commute is over cycle paths and a bit of parkland. Neither a road or a mountain bike would have been right. It's not quite perfect as there is no suspension. That will be a project for another day.

    I recently bought a Carrara Axle hybrid. It's not expensive as these animals go, but its looks have garnered some compliments. Unfortunately, it did blow over in a gust of wind, busting off the front brake barrel adjuster. I could not get the remains out of the body of the shifter without buggering up the thread, so for a while I had absolutely zero authority on the front brake. However, I bought a new shifter of the same type, and an hour's fiddling (mainly getting the handlebar grip off and on, and indexing the gears), so now I have razor-sharp brakes front and rear. It really is an ideal commuter, with granny gears so you can keep your cadence up on hills.
    I do have a carbon fibre road bike, but it's hardly a commuting solution, as I really need panniers, and it's pretty uncomfortable unless you're in full cycling rig - not ideal for popping down the shops, for example.

    The hybrid bikes towards the road end of the scale are great for upgrading to drop bars as you progress, if like me, you got/get the hybrid as a starter bike.

    A hybrid bike with full suspension? Why not? The only way I managed to do that is getting a full suspension MTB and put 70% road tyres, higher handlebars and a comfy saddle. Even expensive models of hybrid bikes do not have a shock. How about us who are obsessed with suspension? Even a short travel shock would do for me.

    I was watching a Fred Astaire movie that was made in 1930s. In one scene he and the other stars were riding bikes in this park area. They were not mountain or road bikes. When I was growing up in NC there were kids bike of variety styles, also there were several type of bikes that certain adult men road that were not either road or mountain bikes.

    I've been searching for months. Where I live are bumpy asphalt hills. Bumpy patched roads, pot holes. One hill used to be a soap box derby hill. I go up and down this and other hill's twice a day. Winter ice and snow is rough. Smooth fresh snow, under it are frozen bumpy foot prints.
    What I think I want is; A mountain bike converted to a comfort bike. Full suspension, wide seat, sit up right, sweep back handle bars, fenders, and front and rear racks for shopping.
    Also swap out the wheels for studs in the winter.
    I don't want a fat bike, too hard to peddle. I need gears, and I have an electric motor.
    Is it even possible to get full suspension on a hybrid or cruiser? If not why? tks

    Am looking to order a P-Lithium 4 via your website, I’m just a bit stuck on what size to get (as can’t currently try out in your stores due to CV19). I’m 5ft 10 but have short legs (30 length). It will be medium or large according to your size chart... gut instinct is saying medium. Would you agree?

    I would like to ask. I am looking for a new bike for commuting and also for leisure.
    I also have a small child, so i know I will have to go with him to parks, gravel roards etc (still I think it will be mainly on roads).
    What you would recommend for me please?
    Thanks a lot

    Nice video I just converted my old 98 Cannondale F-700 Killer V hardtail into a hybrid since it’s no longer really relevant in the MTB word. Pretty simple really I put 2” Serfas drifters and changed stem and moved the handle bar up to a more comfortable road position.
    I will use it for around town, paved trails and hard pack. It’s really too nice of a bike just to write off.
    Maybe, you could make a video on how to do make a hybrid?

    Hey guys, I've just moved to London and I've been looking at various types of hybrid bikes and I don't really know where to start. I would like a bike that I could commute the 5miles to work in central and perhaps explore some of the woodlands areas as well. I just don't think my norco 650b will be much good for the commute so I'm at a lost end.

      I just bought a Carrera Axle hybrid for travel to the railway station and from my destination station to work and back. I have some serious shortcuts a) across a dirt track through the fields next to my house b) a very rutted and potholed one-way street and c) a park trail. This cuts a total of 1 1/2 miles off my commute. I tried it with my road bike and it was a complete non-starter, and I didn't want to go the full mountain bike route, but the hybrid is the best of all possible worlds for me. I will be walking to the station and back tomorrow, but the bike should be with me by Tuesday.

    the Ebikes will be the replacement for the hybrid bikes, as the price comes down.
    The hybrid mtb is just an xc and the hybrid road bike has just flat bars!!
    I would choose a gravel road bike for riding in the city, or an electric MTB!

    This video is very nice but Evans have shown no interest at all in supplying me with a Hybrid with the spec I need.
    Every bike in their shops or on their website always need a few things different than as supplied.
    The manufacturers make this stuff which isn't correct for me, Evans then simply assemble it.
    Yet I'd have to buy a whole load of things on top to make it right.

      I bougth a lithium 5 from evans cycles couple of years ago.
      Very nice bike but I needed to swap the brake levers because I like european style which means front brake on the left hand side and the rear on the right hand side.
      Even if it was hydraulic disc brakes and time consuming to do it.
      Me to evans: can you swap the brakes for me?
      They said: we can't do it
      Me: I will buy this bike right now if you do that for me.
      They: ok i'll do it.
      How quick they changed their minds,it's amazing...

With a budget between 1000-1200$ which bikes do you suggest for speed? I'm a beginner don't know much about bikes other then RUclips/google research, but there is much to learn and confusion between hybrid and road bikes for a commute bike. I want to start commuting to my job which is a distance of 1-2 miles which is not really much.
    I want something beginner, Inexpensive, low maintenance and also able to handle roads, I don't want to hit a pot hole or a bump and have to get new tires. What bike would you recommend for a person like me.

    • @evanscycles
      @evanscycles  8 лет назад +1

      Ok, so in this case I'd aim for something with a larger tyre for comfort while navigating the pot holes, this means it's probably wiser looking toward a hybrid rather than a road bike; road bikes are often built for performance more than anything.
      I'd also suggest something with simpler gears and brakes in order to keep maintenance and cost to a minimum.
      With a commute of 1-2 miles, low weight is of less importance too, and this will help with keeping the cost down, as lighter weight components are often more expensive.
      Based on the information you've given me I'd suggest something like this Pinnacle Lithium, it's simplicity and strength mean it's a great bike for a beginner: www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-lithium-1-2016-hybrid-bike-EV244087

    Hi Toby this is Greg.
    Ive got specialized comp disc crostrail it is very fast bike, would i benefit from replaceing front fork for carbon one? Would it go much faster or there is no point whatsoever? If yes which carbot fork would you recommend? Thanks.

    • @evanscycles
      @evanscycles  8 лет назад

      Hey Greg,
      If speed is what you're looking for then i'd make sure to make the most of what you can do for free before replacing the fork: -
      Make sure you're tyres are properly inflated for a low rolling resistance and good grip, keep your drivetrain clean so it runs smoothly and if you're really after those few extra kph then perhaps consider your position on the bike to make yourself a bit more aerodynamic.
      Replacing the fork with a carbon one would make a stiffer and more responsive ride, with a small weight saving, but wouldn't necessarily increase your speed. Hope that helps.

    I have a hybrid suspension mountain bike I was just wondering if we can upgrade on the bike like the speed if the 18-speed but I was just wondering could it be upgraded to maybe a 21-speed a 24 speed for a 27 speed and Ken it have a little bit longer handlebars just a tad bit longer can we use trigger shifters and can we switch out the forge in case if we want to the make the forces little bit stronger and sturdier the hybrid bike A friend bought me was at Walmart and I do like the fight it's just that something don't feel right so I'm thinking maybe I should upgrade if I ever get any money and I was just wondering how tall do you have to be to have a a certain kind of bike this is how tall I am5'5" 5'2" up to5'10" that's what it said on the hybrid bike but I want my updating it I wish I knew someone that was a professional that can take it all apart and paint it neon yellow so in case if you had to ride your bike at night time for emergency use you have bright colors so people can see besides your bright helmet in your vest and your light

      That's a bit of a tricky one, it entirely depends on where and how far you'll be riding, you may want to consider whether you need the ability to carry heavy loads such as shopping or workbooks, durability for if the bike is kept locked outside and simplicity for easy repairs too. Like a lot of hybrids it's a great all rounder, lightweight with an aluminium frame, smoother tread tyres for faster rolling, sits somewhere in between our road and utility examples here i'd say

      Hi John,
      you're absolutely right, '6 speed' refers to the number of gears.

    Are hardtails also hybrid

    • @visakujala2262
      @visakujala2262 7 лет назад

      Kunj B. Mtb-style hybrids are hardtails, but hardtail mountain bikes are not hybrids. The difference is the rim and tyre width, mtb being wider, and maybe sometimes the frame design also being a little bit different

    Just came across this video in my search for new bike,great video but for one thing,your last bike just so happens to be the great alternative to all bikes and it's made by your company and based on that fact and that you didn't tell the public in the video makes this video pointless because if you had said WE have taken all good thing from all the bikes and we think we have made the best compromise by taking what we think makes the perfect bike for most riding styles and we come up with this????? Then I wouldn't be feeling your just trying to sell a bike that you make over alternatives

    Hi is an urban bike the same thing as a hybrid bike

    • @thenobleandmightybeaver4411
      @thenobleandmightybeaver4411 7 лет назад

      An urban bike is designed for inner city riding where you need a comfortable and robust bike that will put up with pot holes, have good brakes and mounts for racks and fenders. So yes, an urban bike would be a type of hybrid leaning more towards the road end of the spectrum.

      No they don't lean towards road bikes at all.The usually have shock so, they lean towards hybrid with suspensions.

    A hybrid bike is just a worse version of a CX bike.

    Was a little apprehensive when buying this with the few negative reviews on here, but this was exactly the kind of bike I was looking for. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv I plan to ride it on paved roadways and trails, and wanted a "Grocery Getter" so to speak. After receiving it (without any damage), I had it out of the box, and fully assembled in about 30 minutes. I did not have to look at the manual, and I'm glad because I did look at it after I got it together, and it looks like it's a manual for several different styles. I did have to adjust the breaks and gear shifters, but that's been my experience with every bike I've owned. There was one review in particular that made me nervous, saying it was not meant for someone 6'4", it was too short. Well I'm 6'5" (230lbs) with a 36" inseam, and can tell you this bike fits perfectly, granted the seat is in it's highest safe position. I've only had it for 3 days so far, and if things change I will update my review, but I put 26 miles on it so far, and it rides like a dream. Very comfortable seating position. The front suspension is good for the occasional rock or bump you hit on asphalt, but this bike is not made to be taken off road, and I'm OK with that. I was particularly happy to see the wheels were trued perfectly. I was expecting to have to take them in and have them trued at a local bike shop, as I've had to do with all my past bike purchases, but in this case they were already in great shape. For the money, this is an awesome bike.
