Great Video as expected! I never really paid any mind to knives with blades under 3 inches. I also never thought of utilizing that pocket. You've opened up my thought process here. Thanks, man!
Thank you Canaan. I was the same way a few years back, I wouldn't even consider a knife under 3". I'm glad I got over that because I was missing out on some great designs.
i got a tuff lite mini for my 5th pocket last week. excellent blade. the lock is a beast. had to open the clip up a bit. it sits in a valley so it hard to use. might just take it off. was thinking of getting a size up but went with the medium wharn honey badger. waiting patiently for it in the mail.
I can enthusiastically recommend the mini Dozier. I have several, they come very sharp and very comfortable ergonomically. Also, its big brother, the Dozier hunter is an excellent choice.
I own the Syderco Dragonfly and the Cold Steel Mini Tuff Lite. I usually carry the Spyderco because it's more functional especially to open packages. The Tuff Lite is great for breaking down boxes for recycling.
KB, Great video as usual. The Tuff Lite is the small knife I carry in my 5th, or watch pocket at all times. I rotate my front pocket knife daily , but the Tuff Lite is always with me. You are correct it is a great cutter and fun to fidget withprobably
Just to see what I’d discover, I tested the following pocket knives in the 5th pocket of my jeans and they all fit perfectly: Ka-Bar Dozier, QSP Parrot, Spyderco Para 3, RAT 2, and Benchmade Bugout. I’m gonna begin carrying them in the 5th pocket, rotating weekly, and see how this plays out. It’s funny that I never thought of using that pocket for my knives before; thanks for the suggestion.
i put a slim folding razor knife in that watch pocket but certainly could put another type of knife in there. may try my Squid I just bought. great video!
Great video and awesome subject. Most of my smaller knives are slip joint and more traditional knives but I'll give the list a shot. 10. Gerber Wingtip 9.Spyderco Ambitious 8. SAK 7. CRKT Razelcliff 6.Kershaw Scallion 5. CRKT Squid 4.Kershaw Spline 3. Kizer Mini Sheepdog 2. Steel Will Modus Mini ( Reminds me off the Mini Cutjack but sheepsfoot and a bit smaller blade) 1. James Brand The Carter
Mine favorite small/watch pocket knives are the odium, cbrj maileah, cold steel micro recon 1, WE banter, a old small yellow 2 blade case my grandfather gave me and microtech utx-70. I know these aren't budget but what I have that size. lol. I would say my spyderco lil native in rex45 and microtech utx-70 are my favorites.
Good list. I have a lot of knives but love carrying small knives that just disappear in the pocket. My favorite is the Dragonfly 2, I have 5-6 including G10, ZDP189, teal S30V etc but the VG10 FRN is fine. I used a VG10 to make about 100 cuts on 5-6 boxes covered in packing/duct tape the other day. Other great small knives are the Kizer mini Domin (N690), Kizer mini Begletier (154CM), Spyderco Meerkats. The Boker Subcom is a good one but small. I have the FRN AUS8 and titanium VG10. More money but the Spyderco Chapparel is a really good knife in CF or Raffir Noble. I have at least XL hands but not concerned with small grip area because 95% of the time I’m only using a small knife for a few cuts. Great video
I love me some fifth pocket sized knives!! Never seen the Shadow Hornet before....great looking knife! The Dozier can make so many lists!! Thanks for sharing another great list Jay!!
Micro Leatherman, Victorinox w/ nail clippers, Cold Steel Tuff Lite - happy too see it made your list, as wet. I feel the same about the clip. Would love one of those hats, Jay
I was between the Dragonfly and odium for 5th pocket carry, but I went with the Dragonfly. It’s so small and light. Good steel. I ordered the orange one. Should be here this week.
@@TheKnifeBeater man it’s ok. I maybe shoulda gone with the odium or something else. The dragonfly was $73 shipped, it has a bit of up down play. Don’t feel it’s worth the money spent
I don't usually 5th pocket carry, but when I do it's always the Spyderco Roadie. It definitely couldn't handle most cutting tasks as easily as the ones you mentioned, but it disappears so for me the tradeoff is worth it.
Nice array. Was wondering if a Civivi would show up... and then one did. I'm real close to popping for a CRKT Pilar... love the blade, love the derivation of the name.
Leatherman Micra, Spyderco Dragonfly, KaBar mini Doiser and Victorinox classic. Thanks for another informative and enjoyable video. QUESTION; If you could only have one which would you choose, Civivi Elementum or the Odium??? Thanks for the information andf your time.
Surprised you didn't recommend ladybug/manbug, one of the two is always with me plus a sak classic clipped to a streamlight nano in my 5th pocket. Good review of some good blades
I'm not that much into smaller knives but what comes to mind from my collection would be Kershaw Fraxion, CH 3005 and the Bestech Zen. Out of those maybe the CH is the best since its slim and more or less disappears in the 5th pocket.
The Kizer Lieb in micarta. Good steel and great flipping action but the flipper tab is pretty large for the knife. Besides the pocket pecker...great little knife.
A great knife that did not make it onto this list but that is also out of the box from anything else on here is the Stat Gear Pocket Samurai. While the Spyderco Dragonfly is my standard of measure, I have found the pocket Samurai is great in many unique ways. It’s tiny in dimensions yet still has 2” of blade. It can ride in a dress shirt pocket. It’s not my favorite for cutting boxes but it peels oranges very well and it has a wonderful scraping edge with the forward tanto portion. Most importantly it looks really cool.
Love every budget video you do because this is my wheelhouse. For fifth/watch pocket carry I would also recommend the Kershaw Shuffle. I would also consider Steel Will mini Modus and Kobold. I dont own either but they seem like another brand that would fit the criteria.
Great list, Jay! All of my small knives are either traditionals or different SAK models. But I've been eyeing the Tuff Lite for awhile now, I think I just need to pull the trigger and get one!
Tuff lite thumb hole is “chamfered” because the blade is stamped. The die smashes it from one side, so it’s rounded on one side, and sharp on the opposite side. Dremel time. :)
Great list Jay. Owning a majority of the items on this list-I agree with all your comments. My favorite as of late is the Dragonfly 2 (I have the wharncliffe variant)-it is a really great knife for such a small form factor. I also really like the Tuff Lite-such a comfortable handle and (may just be me) but feels bad ass in the hand for such a small knife. My issue is similar to yours-the finish isn't as great as it could be. Although I am not a lefty I do feel the thumb hole to be a bit unfinished/sharp and also the back lock to be a bit stiff, but for the price not a bad buy. Thanks for sharing!
Great video Jay. Love your selection. Lately on my pockets I've been carry: Launch2 (right pocket) , Pilar (5th pocket) and a victorinox spartan (left pocket/keychain jajaja)
I carry my Frank B Italian stiletto in that pocket, since it doesn’t have a clip and just tumbles around in my larger pockets. I think it’s the most comfortable way to carry one.
Love this list, and the Odium would be at the top as well. My only other knife I would include would be the Ferrum Forge Mini ArchBishop, but it is almost the same knife as the Odium anyway :)

I know that I shouldn't, but I usually try to hide it. Unfortunately, when I started the channel a few years ago, I learned really quick how mean some can be on RUclips. At first, it was tough to deal with, but I had to figure out how. I know it's not always intentional, but we judge each other based on appearance and ability. After meeting so many nice people like yourself through RUclips, I'm much more comfortable showing who I really am and maybe even encourage some facing challenges of their own. I realize my channel is a speck of dust on that giant bookcase we call RUclips, but if I can do this, maybe anyone can. Thank you for sharing some of what you deal with Raymond, I know it's not easy to do.
I’m with you on the Pilar, I luv that knife. But ever since I first got it I been trying to find bronze washers for it. That would make it an excellent utility knife for me, but that’s my opinion. Also have the squid, great value. Been wanting a new Swiss Army knife because I haven’t had one in about 30 years, and the midnight is in my watch spot.
I hear ya, I feel the same way about the washers. Any noticeable difference between the bronze and teflon might be minimal, but I think about it every time I pick up that knife. I really just need to get over it.
The Knife Beater I’m going to remove the Teflon washers in the Pilar and measure them with a set of calipers. Once I get the exact measurements I will search for some bronze washers the same size. I see bronze and brass washers on eBay and Ali express, so hopefully I will get lucky. We might have to wait a month for them to come in if I can find them, but it looks like I can get 6 or 8 of them for not a whole lot of money. If it works out for me I will let you know and send a couple of them your way.
I know the price knocks it off your list, but I carry the Spyderco Chaparral lw in my 5th pocket a lot..I love how thin and slicey the blade is, and CTS-XHP is one of my favorite steels. Other than that, I frequently carry a traditional slipjoint in that pocket. I used to carry the Tangram Vector a lot also, but gave it away figuring I'd just buy another, but Amazon went and put that on the "Sorry, we can't ship this to your selected location" list. They really piss me off with that crap. Everything on that list except auto's are perfectly legal to carry here.
The only knife I would add to the list would be the spyderco man bug/ladybug. It really is a 5th pocket knife, and it fits so well, plus it is super slicey; mine in v-toku2 is basically a pocket razor (its just so thin, and even a moderately worked edge is just so sharp).
You should try the Kizer Lieb I think it’s 50 bucks bohler n690 steel 2.5 inch cutting edge it’s a knock out it does not have any lefty love but as a third pocket knife it doesn’t much matter I as a righty don’t use the clip just into the third pocket.
Nice list sir. Have you looked into Finch knives yet? Kind of modern traditional style, but with pocket clips! Lol.. I have been carrying their model 1929 in carbon fiber as my new 5th pocket carry for about a month and it is a beautiful little knife. I'm gonna have to get their runtly model next. Before the Finch I carried a Kizer mini sheepdog for 5th pocket. They're both great! Cheers 🍻
I have a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 in ZDP-189. I like it cause it's small and the blade keeps an edge for a long time. It's not the cheapest for a small knife. It's a secondary knife as I EDC a Spyderco Native 5 Salt most days.
My first and only 5th pocket knife was (is) the Boker BOP586-BRK Plus Subcom and I still dislike it. I have learned to hate ½ serrated blades and the action just sucks on it. Now I'll have to buy your #1 and #2 picks, and I just got the Elementum thanks to you! Gotta say, the Elementum I got has some really stiff opening action...I hope it loosens up with use! Thanks, Jay!
My tuff lite opening hole is smoother for right hand deployment, but the left hand opening is not painfully. I think it is due to how the blade blank is cut or stamped out.
One of the only knives that I remember "losing" is my CS Tuff Lite. Don't remember either side of the deployment hole was chamfered. I think I touched it up with a file to keep it from removing as much skin and nail.
Jason, yep, I noticed the same thing. the Tuff Lite is fun to fidget with, but the thumb hole will remove skin after a while, great idea, will try that.
I’ll someone that always comments on another channel “ The smallest knife I ever carry is a buck 110 and the biggest knife I ever carry is a buck 110”. 🎶 I LOVE BIG KNIVES AND I CANNOT LIE 🎶
Great vid Jay! Well since it's illegal to carry allmost anything in Israel I have some small knives. My no1 go to is the leatherman micra. I have the squirt ps but I don't like it as much. I have some victorinox saks and the smallest is the tinker small which is a bit too small for long time cutting. The civivi looks nice. I like them a lot.
Oh, I might have told this story before. The first modern flipper I ever bought was the Cryo. I loved the design and the feel ( I never felt g10 before). Imagine how disappointed I was when the spring broke in a week. The store I got it from sent me a new one that allso broke. Kershaw sent me a new spring but I couldn't open the screws. Oh man was I bummed. After a while I sent it to kershaw and got a coupon to purchase anything else. I ended up with the best kitchen knife (santuko) I ever had.
I don't think you told me this story before. Sorry to hear about the troubles with the Cryo. I know those torsion springs can break, I just never experienced it yet. Thanks for sharing.
Jay, another great list! May I state that since the fifth pocket is generally on the right side theoretically there would not be any lefty love. Here are few more I can remember that should fit the bill. Camillus LK6 Leatherman skeletool kb Boker plus drop xs SOG Twitch II Buck vantage small Buck rival I Ganzo 7530m And possibly the harnds wind
Thank you. Yeah, typically that pocket is on the right only. I had to track down some with it on the left and found a few bdu pants made by Helikon. Very nice list you made.
I've been super happy the last few weeks with the odium in my 5th pocket. I have other, "better" knives, but this is so unobtrusive that I prefer to carry it on a normal day.
“makes me want to run around looking for things to cut” - glad I’m not the only one!!!! GREAT list!
Lol! Thank you

The odium is my pick too I had a feeling that might be your pick that or the cold steel 👌
Very nice Scott. Thank you
I’m with you on the Pilar, I luv that knife.
Thanks Tim. You're right about the Chaparral. Sorry to hear about that Amazon crap.
The We Mote is a stunning knife, about the same size as the Civivi Odium… but definitely in the luxury price range.
Yeah, that is a good looking knife.
The only knife I would add to the list would be the spyderco man bug/ladybug. It really is a 5th pocket knife, and it fits so well, plus it is super slicey; mine in v-toku2 is basically a pocket razor (its just so thin, and even a moderately worked edge is just so sharp).
I haven't tried either yet. Thanks for the suggestion Will.
I like the Case Peanut in my 5th pocket.
For sure, nice choice.
Man I've got to have that odium. I got a very good deal on a we banter, it is great.
It’s a great pocket for a SAK!
Absolutely Joe, I agree.
Spyderco Cat never seems to get much love but it’s a great 5th carry at 2.5 oz. and CTS BD1N.
You should try the Kizer Lieb I think it’s 50 bucks bohler n690 steel 2.5 inch cutting edge it’s a knock out it does not have any lefty love but as a third pocket knife it doesn’t much matter I as a righty don’t use the clip just into the third pocket.
Thanks for the heads up about the Lieb.
Cheers 🍻
Thank you Drew. Yeah, I have seen some of their stuff. I'm definitely interested.
Thank you Howard. If you keep working that Elementum, it should get there for ya.
My tuff lite opening hole is smoother for right hand deployment, but the left hand opening is not painfully. I think it is due to how the blade blank is cut or stamped out.
You're probably right about that Scott. Thank you
One of the only knives that I remember "losing" is my CS Tuff Lite. Don't remember either side of the deployment hole was chamfered. I think I touched it up with a file to keep it from removing as much skin and nail.
That's a great idea Jason, I might actually try it. Thank you. Btw, didn't forget about your sticker.
Jason, yep, I noticed the same thing. the Tuff Lite is fun to fidget with, but the thumb hole will remove skin after a while, great idea, will try that.
Who gave this video a thumbs down? May he get right to the point!
Lol! Thanks Wes.
I’ll someone that always comments on another channel “ The smallest knife I ever carry is a buck 110 and the biggest knife I ever carry is a buck 110”. 🎶 I LOVE BIG KNIVES AND I CANNOT LIE 🎶
Lol. I can respect that.
HT, There is always room for two! I love big blades as well.
Thank you Gilad. I understand, you gotta be careful with what you carry.
I don't think you told me this story before. Sorry to hear about the troubles with the Cryo. I know those torsion springs can break, I just never experienced it yet. Thanks for sharing.
This,Spyderco,is,the,beast,all,day
Jay, another great list! May I state that since the fifth pocket is generally on the right side theoretically there would not be any lefty love.
Here are few more I can remember that should fit the bill.
Camillus LK6
Leatherman skeletool kb
Boker plus drop xs
SOG Twitch II
Buck vantage small
Buck rival I
Ganzo 7530m
And possibly the harnds wind
Thank you. Yeah, typically that pocket is on the right only. I had to track down some with it on the left and found a few bdu pants made by Helikon. Very nice list you made.
If we talk just knives, then these are my 9 "5th pocket" ones, however I usually find myself grabbing one of my "kits" (micro blade tied to micro light) for the 5th pocket.
9. Cold Steel Tuff Lite
8. Kershaw Shuffle I
7. Kershaw Shuffle II
6. CRKT Pilar (regular)
5. CRKT Squid
4. CRKT Pazoda 2
3. Kershaw Cathode
2. Kershaw Amplitude 2.5
1. Ka-Bar Dozier Small
Kits:
5. Nite Ize DooHicKey Blade + Steamlight Nano (blue)
4. Gerber LST + Steamlight Nano (black)
3. Buck Bantam 283 + Nitecore Tube (green)
2. Cold Steel Micro Recon 1 + Olight I1R (black)
1. Victorinox Classic SD + Nitecore Tube (blue)
Wow, what a list! Thank you for putting that together Hector.
Man. I love the tuff lite. Mine was sharp on both sides of the thumb hole 🤣🤣🤣
Aw man, that stinks.
Happy Birthday!!
I brought a like as tithings
Omg, thank you! Lol
I've been super happy the last few weeks with the odium in my 5th pocket. I have other, "better" knives, but this is so unobtrusive that I prefer to carry it on a normal day.
Yep, that's one of the reasons I like it to. Thank you Jerry.
