My favorite small knife of my collection is my spyderco native 5. The knifecenter exclusive, blacked out in cruwear and g10. The ergonomics are amazingly utilitarian and I prefer the flat jimping ramp to the curved one of the sage 5. It's not as thick behind the edge as I'd like but I highly recommend it as a small, basic knife.
Thay ferrum forge gent😍😍😍. Others to consider: - native 5 lightweight - benchmade bugout - benchmade proper - some traditional slipjoint from rough rider (ryder) - opinel N°7 - kershaw shuffle 2 - crkt pilar You should do a video with your top 10 traditional knives 😍😍😍
Great top ten Jay! I'm a newbie in this collecting and my budget for this hobby is low at the moment. But that's okay, I'm content with Ganzo, Sanrenmu, some Kershaw etc for now. But I'll get to better knives when I can. So for now I'm enjoying learning about what's out there from you and a couple of other channels. As always, I enjoyed the video my friend. Thanks for sharing!
@@ericblade8330 what are a few you would recommend? I've checked that brand out due to their pricing and I like the look of some. Just don't know much about the brand. And thanks for reaching out to me.
Thank you Michael, I appreciate it. To be honest, this is the perfect time to start collecting. There are so many good budget choices nowadays, makes it easier to find a knife you really like and not just settling for something close enough. CH knives are another brand I'm liking more and more. Not sure if you saw my review on the CH3530, but I do like this one. Here's the link ruclips.net/video/hYd3Eh01Lb8/видео.html.
@@TheKnifeBeater I did see that video and I thought it was a very good looking knife. I noticed that Amazon had it in a nice shade of green. Trying to get a little color in the mix. Thanks Jay, I really appreciate your help!
Not in the budget these days, but will definitely check out and study those in this list. Hopefully local stores have a sample so I get to see how they feel in hand. Good work, Jay!
I hear ya Ramon, it's a lot more fun to look when you can actually buy something. I love that little patch of jimping on the North Fork, such a great design. That's one of the reasons I like the Grizzly Creek as well. Nice to hear from ya, thank you.
Hey man, somehow I've only just found your channel and it's a really good one, thanks for all the uploads and keep em coming. I really enjoyed this video in particular 👌👊
Great choices here. I have five of these in my collection and 3 of them in the top 5. I just put g10 scales on my mini freek and it makes a huge difference. Thanks for the video!
You bet Scott, thanks for watching it. Sounds like you and I like a lot of the same knives. I've been thinking about doing the same with my mini Freek, so maybe it's time.
I have the sage with maximet and liner lock and sage 5 lightweight. I sold my regular sage 5 and got the lightweight version that actually uses 2 bronze washers and special tensions pivot or whatever. My sage 5 lightweight has the best action of any spyderco I've owned and I own alot.
The forward jimping on the North Fork, near the tip, is for using your pointer finger when skinning or doing detail work. That's why you see it mostly on survival knives. :)
Thanks pad. I've been watching your videos with the new format, just not commenting, sorry. It's not easy to make changes like that, I'm proud of you. It shows that you genuinely care about the people that watch and that you're paying attention. I probably should have said this stuff in the comments of one of your videos, but my mind just started working and the words poured out. Thanks again.
Thank you Jim. Excellent question. Short answer - no. Long answer - maybe. The D2 blade should hold it's edge a little longer than AUS8, but the AUS8 will be easier to sharpen than D2. If it's the only knife you own and you rely on it heavily, it might be worth spending the extra money. But, if it's part of a rotation of knives, AUS8 is just fine. Hope this helps Jim.
Three Rivers Mfg Neutron is an incredible knife and I absolutely love mine. Some people might say it's on the more expensive side but you get an amazing 3" 20CV blade, all titanium hardware and they are US made in small batches with great quality control and attention to detail. Not to mention they have tons of different handle options (G10, Micarta, Carbon Fiber).
Food for thought Jay...how about a video on secondary backup knives...like Swiss army or other SMALL folders to carry with your main blade..i carry a Swiss cadet sometimes with mine. I like your list. I guess I'm talking about even smaller knives.
I like the way you're thinking Alan, great idea. My Midnight Manager is ALWAYS in my pocket. It's even been in the washing machine a few times, the flashlight and ink pen still work. Thanks for the suggestion.
The Cutjack is just a better all around knife. The Honey Badger is fun to fidget, but the Cutjack is better at everything else. Thanks for watching Aron.
Keep in mind deep carry pocket clips are nice, but not always necessary. Sometimes it's nice to have a little bit of handle sticking out to grab when you need to deploy said blade depending on the handle design, and or type of carry. Seriously it's particular to the knife and situation you're carrying it for. Great channel btw, I've enjoyed subscribing thus far!!!!
Thank you Seth. I agree, especially with Cold Steel knives because there's not much spring with those clips. When I first began collecting, every knife I owned had to have a deep carry clip. I've backed off that a little bit for the same reason you mention.
Just came across this one Jay, great list and like them all. Only problem one is Steel Will, out of 4 only one had decent action at best. Gave them all away, never again will purchase one. Thanks for sharing man!
Thank you much Kl C. I hear ya, the D2 versions of the Cutjack and Modus don't have the best action, but they do have bronze washes inside. My M390 versions with ball-bearing pivots came with excellent action right outta the box. I totally understand where you're coming from, it sounds like you gave Steel Will a fair shot and they did not work well for you. Thanks for watching.

I carry the rat 1assited .I really like it. You can find it on sale for the same price as the non assisted rat 1. I hope they come out with a rat 2assisted!
Great selection of small knives. I totally agree with you the mini freek is a great knife. It’s #2 on my list too, only slightly outdone by the mini bugout. The mini freek is better in hand, but the mini bugout gets a win in the pocket. Both great knives though. Thanks for the great vid.
You bet Rex, anytime. I really like the handle size of the mini Freek. Maybe Benchmade will make an M4 version. I haven't tried out a mini Bugout yet, but I plan to. The full size Bugout is one of my favs. Thanks for watching.

Great video and I appreciate the list. I have the Mini Freek and I’m waiting on an Elementum. Can’t wait to get my Elementum... The Mini Freek checks all the boxes (after I put on the Benchmade deep carry clip), but I agree it can be a little harder to pocket than I’d like because of the rubbery scales. The blade and feel in the hand are great... much better than Mini Griptillian that I cross shopped when I chose this knife. I also have a Spyderco Para 3 Lightweight and I’m surprised that didn’t make the list. It’s super lightweight and a great flat grind, great ergos and compression lock. Also think it’s a little less $$ than the Spyderco you featured. Thanks again for the thoughtful list.
Hey there HP, thank you. I appreciate your consideration regarding any spoilers. You totally should get #3, you won't regret it. If they have them in stock at White Mountain Knives, you could use my coupon code (lefty love), which will save you 10%.
Excellent selection. Couldn’t agree more (except the Kershaw leek - too pokey stabby & slippery). Too bad Canada customs is making it difficult to get flippers.
Yes, , I enjoyed your video. I like your preferences in medium EDC's. Now, I do like Ganzos, especially the Firebird line, and I will probably chose them over other budget lines, but that's just me.
Thank you Sergio. I'm a Ganzo fan too. They were on a hot streak with their FH series, releasing a few new ones in quick succession. Lately they have slowed down, but I'm sure we will hear from them again. Thanks for watching.
Since i just started collecting knives a year ago, I don't have 10 small edc's that I love, so here are my top ten EDC knives. 10. Kizer Velox 2 - Titanium 9. CRKT Avant 8. Benchmade Sequel 7. Benchmade Griptillian 6. Spyderco Tenacious 5. Boker Plus Strike 4. Kershaw Scallion 3. Kizer Dukes 2. Boker Plus Strike Mini 1. Benchmade North Fork
For just starting out a year ago, you have a very nice collection. It took me a few years to acquire some these knives you listed. Thank you for sharing Cheryl.
Really entertaining video, Jay! No RUclips channel here, but my top 5 are: 5. Kershaw Leek 4. Victorinox Pioneer 3. Spyderco Dragonfly 2 2. Kershaw Cryo D2 1. Benchmade 485 Valet Keep up the great videos! 🍺
Thank you so much! I like your list. I really need to add a Valet to my collection, I love that knife. Side note, my woman is actually from Westerville. Thanks for watching.
Hi Jay. 10 nice knives. I actualy like smaller blades as long as the handle is on for 4 fingers. Sometimes they can look unbalanced but great users. All the best.
Thank you Don. I agree with you 100%. As long I can fit all 4 fingers, I'm good. The mini Sheepdog was the exception for me because I really like that blade and the action. Thanks again.
Solid top ten bro. Though I usually only carry smaller knives as backup, I love the Elementum for light days and for heavier days I love rockin the mini Freek with partially serrated blade.
I really Love the D2 medium honey badger for the reason as your #1, such great action. I have to be careful when I haven't carried it in a few days as it'll try to bite me on the drop every time. Thanks for sharing.
You bet Gman, thanks for watching. Same here. The action on that thing is amazing! So much fun to carry. It has better action than knives that cost way more money.
Hey, how about a video on big little knives? Those lil chunky guys. I know you have included some in your Top10 lists, but it would be cool to have them all together.
Nice selection, I like that the RAT still holds its own. Tbh I would be having a hard time choosing between the Gent and the Elementum though I'd definitely put one of them (or maybe both) at the top of the list.
I do like those steels, especially VG-10. For me, they are a upper middle of the road type of steel, which is not a bad thing. Some manufacturers do a better job of getting the most out of N690, like Boker. I've had great experiences with Boker's N690.
You bet Kyle, thanks for watching. It was a tough choice to not have the Para 3 on the list and I fully expect to hear about it, which is good because it gets me thinking and keeps me on my toes. Do you prefer the Para 3 over the Sage 5? Thanks again Kyle.
@@TheKnifeBeater Honestly I don't have either, but I am about to get the para 3 when taxes come in. The Rat 2 D2 as well. Just from all of the reviews and overviews I've seen from everyone I figured you would have had the para 3 on deck.
I hear ya. I still love it too, even though it wasn't on this list. Last time I had like 3 Spyderco's on the list and it just seemed like too many. Tried to spread things around this time. Thanks for watching.
Never considered the "Lefty Love" thing until I realized that carrying firearm in right front pocket demands left pocket carry of knife...NOW I get it and am paying more attention. Thanks for pointing that out and for putting the work into these videos.
@@TheKnifeBeater Hey Jay, I'd say the bulk of my collection is medium and small knives. The 5 that seem to get the most use are my mini Grip sheepfoot, Spydie Chaparral, Kershaw Dividend in M390, Native 5 in Maxamet, and the Kershaw 3.0 Injection. I mean I like to flip and fidget with knives as much as anyone but I'm increasingly more concerned about performance and potential performance than anything else.
I re-watched the video and now understand it is blade length you are going by. I just bought the Chronic and it is the smallest carry size of all my knives. I really like it though.
Since my wife just posted her top ten, I will go ahead and post mine. So, here goes, my current most carried 10. Benchmade Sequel 9. Boker Strike 8. Kizer Hunter 7. Kershaw Emerson CQC 6 6. Spyderco Tenacious 5. Benchmade Griptillian 4. Benchmade Mini Freek 3. Ontario Dozier Strike 2. Benchmade Bugout 1. Benchmade Grizzly Ridge Only reason I don't have the Benchmade North Fork on this list is because my wife won't let me carry it. As you can tell I am a big Benchmade fan.
Yep, I saw her list, great stuff she has. I don't blame her for not letting you carry the North Fork. I got one for the first time a few months ago and I love it. I feel the same as you about Benchmade, they are definitely one of my favorite manufacturers. The last knife I bought from them was the new Presidio CF-Elite. So nice to see the Grizzly Ridge as your #1, I thought I was the only one who liked it. Thanks for watching Ray.
@@TheKnifeBeater The Presidio or the Super Freak will be my next knife..I also really like Kizer ....They make really good stuff..Glad we found your channel you do nice work...Peace
I somehow feel validated... My top 3 knives were within your top 4. I don't have the Benchmade. But the "Gent", "Elementum", and "Cutjack", are all at the tippy top of my list.
Some great choices Wow a new #1 the gent . I've got a new#1 it's the native 5 in S90V I've wanted this knife for so long and so far it's just so good. The Rat 2 is in the mix. I just don't have that many small knives anymore. Enjoyed the video my left handed brother ✌️🤜
Thanks Rodney. Yeah, I kept noticing the Gent Select in my pocket more and more. I still love the Native 5, but I tried not load up this list with a bunch of the same brands. I think last time, I had the Native 5, Para 3, and Sage 5 on there, needed to spread the love around I guess. I still prefer knives a little larger, so next is gonna be a new medium list because there are some changes with those as well. Thanks again Rodney.
My north folk in with the g10 scales is my fav edc! It used to have wood scales but they cracked! No questions- benchmade replaced them and tuned, sharpen the blade with zero charge! I like full linners on my knifes and i would take this one over the mini bugout any day
Lessee...on Amazon, some genius said that the Cutjack is better than a Delica at half the price...PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF...yeah ok...let's start with the steel. I have a bunch of D2 (a limited edition Osborne from about 10 years ago and a Bone Collector among them) steel blades, and it's strong, but that shit rusts easy. I have 2 VG10 blades....the first one was the Dragonfly II, which I'll put up against any of these that are under $100. 2nd is the Delica. I use them all the time. No rust. No, it doesn't flick open. Flickers are like...for people who want OTF, but not really. I mean, if you like them, you like them, fine, but let's not pretend they are better than normal openers. If knives are toys for you, have at it, but I'll take my Delica spydie opener over your flipper. Then there's the lock. I'm sorry, but liner locks are CHEAP. That's where they saved money on the cutjack, and are nowhere nearly as strong as a lockback. Here's what I want you to do....you can go watch tons of stress test videos that will show you that the liner locks all break first, or....get yourself a dragonfly II with SS handles, and listen to the sound as it locks up. Then try your liner lock again. If you take out the toy factor, Delica outperforms any knife on this list under $100 (benchmades are no longer available at price point). Also, cutjack reviews start to talk about fit and finish. Well, yeah Chinese knives will usually have this problem (modicum of respect for WE). Spyderco and Benchmade DO NOT. I think the Bugout, Mini-Grip, Delica, Para III LW, all deserve mentions. Only real surprise on this list for me was the Kizer. Gonna give that one a closer look I think. My favorite knife is no longer available...Sage III, S30V, Axis lock...
I'm a big fan of the Kizer dukes 1. Chris Reeve small sebenza 21 2. Spyderco domino 3.13 so maybe it won't count then Para 3 3. Small Benchmade Freek 4. Spyderco ladybug 5. Kizer dukes 6. Spyderco native 5 s90v
Hey there Cark. Yeah, I don't think the Dukes will ever come off my list. It would have to be something special to knock it off. You know how much I love the Domino, but it's discontinued, which really sucks. If it wasn't for that, it would be at the top of my medium list for sure. I just don't like to show and rank knives that people can't buy, maybe it's stupid, but that's just how I am. Maybe I should do a list of discontinued knives...hmm...

Thanks again for the thoughtful list.
Thank you Steven. I prefer the mini Freek over the mini Grip as well. The slightly longer handle makes a big difference.
Hola from Mexico! Super solid list right here! Love your #1 (no names to avoid spoilers :P) and I'm thinking about picking up your #3
Hey there HP, thank you. I appreciate your consideration regarding any spoilers. You totally should get #3, you won't regret it. If they have them in stock at White Mountain Knives, you could use my coupon code (lefty love), which will save you 10%.
Where did you get the pocket clip on your North Fork? I need one!
It's actually a clip off of the Bugout.
Excellent selection. Couldn’t agree more (except the Kershaw leek - too pokey stabby & slippery).
Too bad Canada customs is making it difficult to get flippers.
Thank you for watching. Sorry to hear you're having a hard time getting knives, gotta be very frustrating.
The Sage 5 is one of my favorite knives. The lw version brings the price down to $120.
Since i just started collecting knives a year ago, I don't have 10 small edc's that I love, so here are my top ten EDC knives.
10. Kizer Velox 2 - Titanium
9. CRKT Avant
8. Benchmade Sequel
7. Benchmade Griptillian
6. Spyderco Tenacious
5. Boker Plus Strike
4. Kershaw Scallion
3. Kizer Dukes
2. Boker Plus Strike Mini
1. Benchmade North Fork
For just starting out a year ago, you have a very nice collection. It took me a few years to acquire some these knives you listed. Thank you for sharing Cheryl.
Really entertaining video, Jay!
No RUclips channel here, but my top 5 are:
5. Kershaw Leek
4. Victorinox Pioneer
3. Spyderco Dragonfly 2
2. Kershaw Cryo D2
1. Benchmade 485 Valet
Keep up the great videos!
Thank you James. I hear ya, I'm sorta the same way. I usually carry knives a little larger than these too.
The mini freek/freak looks like BM’s Ritter replacement blade.
Great assortment of knives!
Thank you Cameron. This was a fun list to do.
Freeky Friday ... here I come.
CRKT Pilar, and Kizer has some nice mini cleavers.
Nice selection, I like that the RAT still holds its own. Tbh I would be having a hard time choosing between the Gent and the Elementum though I'd definitely put one of them (or maybe both) at the top of the list.
Thank you John. You're right though, either one of those could have easily been my #1.
You compared VG-10 TO 154 cm. YOu commented N690o was average. Wow! VG 10 and N690CO are two of the few Cobalt bearing alloys! I prefer n690!
I do like those steels, especially VG-10. For me, they are a upper middle of the road type of steel, which is not a bad thing. Some manufacturers do a better job of getting the most out of N690, like Boker. I've had great experiences with Boker's N690.
Nice picks. Just missing the Para 3. Thanks for the overview though. Keep up the good work.
@@TheKnifeBeater currently I am rocking the CRKT Pilar and the CRKT Squid.
Very nice Kyle, I like and own both.
@@TheKnifeBeater just changed my mind about the r2d2, going for the elementum instead.
Spyderco Para 3 is my favorite small knife. Followed by a SAK Camper with plus covers.
I hear ya. I still love it too, even though it wasn't on this list. Last time I had like 3 Spyderco's on the list and it just seemed like too many. Tried to spread things around this time. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for mention the European metric system (cm etc)
So I'm going watching cause I'm waiting for the hanzo knives to come........
Never considered the "Lefty Love" thing until I realized that carrying firearm in right front pocket demands left pocket carry of knife...NOW I get it and am paying more attention. Thanks for pointing that out and for putting the work into these videos.
No lefty love... I don't see a problem... LOL 😉. I'll chime in with my favorites shortly.
Lol. I look forward to your list John, thank you.
Excellent choices John, I like them all. Thank you.
I caught my eye the 'Mini Freak'. If is good like the 'Freak', it is a goal.
I love the mini Freek, smaller knife with a big enough handle for most.
Mini Natrix is one of my favorite small knives
How is the Civivi Chronic not on this list? It is smaller than the leek.
Are you sure about that?
I re-watched the video and now understand it is blade length you are going by. I just bought the Chronic and it is the smallest carry size of all my knives. I really like it though.
Since my wife just posted her top ten, I will go ahead and post mine. So, here goes, my current most carried
10. Benchmade Sequel
9. Boker Strike
8. Kizer Hunter
7. Kershaw Emerson CQC 6
6. Spyderco Tenacious
5. Benchmade Griptillian
4. Benchmade Mini Freek
3. Ontario Dozier Strike
2. Benchmade Bugout
1. Benchmade Grizzly Ridge
Only reason I don't have the Benchmade North Fork on this list is because my wife won't let me carry it.
No way, really? You have good taste my friend. Thanks Spectt.
Great review, I am left handed also so I know how!!!🤓🤓🤓
Hey there HMG, welcome to the club. Thank you for watching.
No.1 & 5 are the best...
You need to get the Kizer shard and the damned designs Oni both together will run you 120 great steels and materials
Hey Knife Beater! I love your channel. Check out spyderco CME (compression made easy) for a great option for the lock for lefties or disabled. Like me
My north folk in with the g10 scales is my fav edc! It used to have wood scales but they cracked! No questions- benchmade replaced them and tuned, sharpen the blade with zero charge! I like full linners on my knifes and i would take this one over the mini bugout any day
Excellent point Robert. Glad to hear Benchmade took care of you.
Small Honey Badger is my best small blade
I hear ya John, the medium is one of my all-time favorite budget knives. Thanks for watching.
Benchmade sequel or mini griptilian in 154 cm
Archbishop by ferrum forge is coming my favorite small edc
I hear ya. That's a knife I'm really looking forward to as well. Thanks for watching.
I still favor the Dragonfly 2 in good old vg10.
I'm a fan of VG10 myself. Such a good looking blade on the Dragonfly 2. Thanks for watching.
No mini grip, and maybe the Bugout mini will be next years #1
Yeah, I know, it was a tough choice. The mini Grip was on my previous list, but the North Fork kinda took over it's spot.
Hey, G-mail canceled all my subscriptions on Aug 13th, you included.
Favorite knife hogue Doug Ritter mini
Yes! Great knife Michael.
I'm a big fan of the Kizer dukes
1. Chris Reeve small sebenza 21
2. Spyderco domino 3.13 so maybe it won't count then Para 3
3. Small Benchmade Freek
4. Spyderco ladybug
5. Kizer dukes
I hate the Rat knives! When are they going to create a Rat 3 in a better steel?
Here is my Top 10:
Fox Vox Core
Viper Vox Odino
Spyderco Native 5
Spyderco Para 3
Steel Will Cutjack Mini
Civivi Elementum
Civivi Shard
Ferrum Forge Mini Archbishop
Tangram Vector
CRKT Pilar Large
Great choices here. You know I'm a Vox fan, so it's nice to see 2 on your list. Thanks for watching.
The Knife Beater Look again, there are 3 Vox designs. Thanks for your great content.
You're absolutely right, I didn't see the Pilar at the bottom.
Bm knives have gone done hill on quality I've returned a few so30v. Chips
Yeah, sometimes they can be hit or miss. Thanks for watching Sean.
civivi baklash?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you.
Look for a Kizer Barbosa. Much better than the Dukes
Oh sure, I know the Barbosa. I don't think I've tried that one yet. It looks pretty good for about $70. Thank you Chad.
Think you need to figure out whether you’re more interested in a tool, or pocket jewelry.
It can't be both?
The Knife Beater I’m not sure where to go with a review that states it’s the perfect knife except I don’t like the way the pocket clip looks.
I don't think i could carry or let alone pay over $100 for a knife that was made in China/Taiwan. I'll pay the extra $$ to buy USA made products.
What is your favorite Spyderco knife?
Great list of small knives ! Good overview , thanks for sharing !! 👊
Glad you liked it, thank you Patrick.
