@@ritter3723 What if there were more caves like Submerged Castle where you can only use one type or limited amount of types? Like the Dandori challenges, but more like traditional caves with no time limit. Imagine doing a cave with only purple pikmin, but you need to keep all of them alive to get the final treasure! For example starting with 10 purple pikmin and the final treasure requires those 10 purple pikmin but the cave is filled with large enemies and traps.
A different idea is a Dandori Challenge but instead of going into a cave you do it in the open area. What if the Dandori Challenge area was Serene Shores with all the water but you don't have any blue or ice for the challenge and you instead have to get yellow pikmin or winged pikmin around.

Honestly they just didn’t have to get rid of Mission Mode, especially Pikmin 3’s, Mission mode is the most replayable and fun part of 3 and it’s always fun to be able to go back to them, yes Dandori challenges are there but they are not the same, I liked going to battle enemies and trying to kill all the enemies and having to go through find treasures in almost one normal day in the actual game amount of time, it was really fun and they really could have used this to give more use and time to Pikmin types they didn’t give much time to, Winged and Rocks (even if weirdly Winged and Rocks were my fav uses in the game after getting their onions) they do need to fix their path finding since really they can just fly over anything and bring it to the ship which is weird it didn’t happen, a DLC with a mission mode, boss rush, maybe a zone or 2 where u already have all the onions and Pikmin types (this was a need in the game they should have given you all the Pikmin types onions and then make the last zone need a use of all of them to use them) Every Pikmin is fairly good and balanced in the game with some minor mistakes, they just needed for more use to their own abilities.

Winged Pikmin are frankly useless everywhere besides one dungeon at the end of the game, and you only get 10 of them until close to the end of the game.
White Pikmin are faster, benefit most from being Flowered, and still have the damage on being eaten perk, which combined with there being a White Onion, has no drawbacks. I honestly think White Pikmin are a top tier choice because of their having an Onion. After I got their Onion, they did all of the carrying for me, it made the whole process much quicker. (And I just fed them to everything that could eat, since their corpses would just repopulate my losses and then some.)

Another person overrating blues again. No water then no blues or water hazards then when you would use blues. Reds are pretty good fighters for the early game and being fire resistant is nice, Yellows digging speed and throw height is useful to get objects and fight certain things, and being immune to electricity is pretty nice, Whites speed, and poison damage is really helpful for whites because that makes them great for carrying items back if an enemies eat one, and having poison immunity is a nice perk. Purples being strong is pretty self-explanatory. Winged flying over stuff like water and surfaces (yeah, their path finding is weird) is very strong basically going over a lot of enemies and carrying treasure completely safely. Rocks are great with oatchi`s charge and aren't really stupid anymore. Ice boys are great at assisting another pikmin in combat and plus they can literally just freeze water. Blues still suck and just because there is another hazard that blues are good with doesn't make them A tier, they should be F. just like the tier list from the guy who had the small key argument they should be more than their required use cases.

Here's how I'd change each Pikmin for a more balanced game:
    Red: Keep the same
Yellow: Make them deal increased damage to stunned enemies.
Blue: Make them more resistant to losing their flower, and have them slowly go from Leaf to Bud to Flower over time while standing in water for extended periods of time.
Purple: Slightly nerf the initial throw power.
White: Make them get up faster after being knocked down or shaken off.
Rock: Slightly reduce the amount of damage they do on throw from 4x to 2.5x. However, they do 4x damage to frozen enemies. Throwing them at enemy parts that would normally take no damage (such as the back of an Emperor Bulblax) will deal half of normal damage instead. Make them drown faster, just for flavor.
    Winged: Make their pathing better.
Ice: Increase the amount of time it takes to freeze an enemy, and decrease the amount of time they stay frozen.
    Glow: Keep the same

  • @Calgerot
    @Calgerot Год назад +6

Rock pikmin have an attack power of 40, which is 4 times the default of 10. Rock pikmin use this attack power of 40 for when they charge, attack on their own, and in some cases when they are thrown. Rock pikmin's impact damage when thrown varies depending on which enemy they hit, but in many cases it is 40. One unique interaction is that they one-shot a single berry from a Burgeoning Spiderwort and then fall off it, this makes them the fastest at farming ultra-spicy spray. Ironically, rock pikmin themselves get nerfed when under the effect of ultra-spicy spray, since it sets their attack power to the default of 10 and they can't really use the increased attack speed. The ultra-spicy will also set the impact damage when thrown to 10 if it is 40 (the same as their attack power), but the impact damage will be unaffected if the impact damage is not 40.
Purple pikmin's slam damage is 100, which is twice the slam damage of 50 that they had in Pikmin 2.
Glow pikmin have the default attack power of 10, not 5. The glowmob explosion does not deal any direct damage, it only stuns. The glowmob will also revert the maturity of the glow pikmin back into leaves.
The 5 attack power of the winged, white, and ice pikmin can be negated with ultra-spicy spray as it sets their attack power to the default of 10.
In Pikmin 3, winged pikmin were immune to all forms of crush damage except from the Quaggled Mireclops (which also killed rock pikmin) and the crystals of the Plasm Wraith. In Pikmin 4, they seem to be a bit "crush resistant", but this can vary a lot based on the attack. In some cases, they instantly get killed, like the other pikmin types from crush damage. Sometimes they get knocked down first or only get killed if they are already knocked down or affected by another status. They also seem to be immune to the crush damage of the Horned Cannon Beetle and Armored Cannon Larva and only get knocked down. There is also other weird jank with them, I would not be surprised if they used the rock pikmin's code as the base for the winged pikmin.

For the yellows, I'd argue that a) there's a decent amount of electric gates and high throw locations, especially early game, and more importantly b) they fig at *4x* the speed. If you have 4 of any pikmin and throw one yellow on, you literally double the dig speed. Their abilities are decent on paper, but whenever being used they're great.
Also I strongly believe that Rocks are the worst in this game. Not because they're bad, but because by the time you get their onion, you have a decent amount of purples (assuming you're 100%). Rocks are nice for their immunity to being crushed, but its not really relevant most of the time, because you just have a bunch of spare pikmin in your onion. Most importantly, rocks suffer the most from bombs being an item. The few times glass walls appear, you can just throw a single bomb and boom, its done.
I also think blues are still not that high, but thats because i dont think they have anything going for them besudes the fact the game features water. I dont have any other reason to pick them still.

The .5 damage multiplier is cancelled out by the fact that any other type will run away screaming from most enemies in this area, whereas white pikmin will barely lose a petal.
I'd also put wings below yellows, since wings don't take very good shortcuts, can't cheese any puzzles like they did in 3, and are extremely limited in number until the game is basically over (unless you grind, you'll have 10 by the time you save Olimar.)

You only have 10 Winged Pikmin until Area 5, and their Onion is locked behind the last area. And besides from one cave in the last area, you can just use other Pikmin to do everything since there's nothing really for Winged Pikmin to do.
On the other hand, I found White Pikmin to be incredibly uaeful, especially since you can get their Onion before even going to the Giant's Hearth, meaning you can grow a large population of them to feed to every enemy and there's no drawbacks to that since you can just use those corpses to grow even more.
On top of being the faster carriers, benefiting more from being Flowered than the other types, and the Poison immunity, I honestly found myself always relying upon the strength of my White Pikmin.

It’s high throw is rendered useless when oatchi rushes against the wall and it comes down and when you can throw a winged pikmin so swiftly get it. Its electric ability is underutilised in the game, as you said, and is easily flagged out with oatchi. And the electricity doesn’t even kill anymore - which I agree with you, makes it barely a hazard. Yellows are really only used in the final boss because you HAVE to. Winged pikmin are also extremely useful against tall enemies like arachnorbs since you can rush them with spicy spray, so I'd give them an 80 or so. (They also ignore poison mold.)

Funnily enough, Oatchi is actually a soft buff to Blue Pikmin due to allowing the devs to incorporate water into more of the map (since he can allow the player to transport them across the water), giving the player more reason to want to use them without making them strictly necessary.

Through my regular playthrough, I found the following:
    S - Purples and Ice
    - Purples are great in Pikmin 4, but I still ended up being afraid to use them because of their scarcity, and because I didn't want to lose them. Yes, I could have just grew more in caves, but I didn't think to do that until after reaching the final area with the 1000 Pikmin treasure. I know they can be obtained via onions now too, but I didn't do that until after beating the game.
    - Ice Pikmin are ridiculously good. Freezing enemies is busted, and despite their poor combat abilities, when combined with other types, Ice Pikmin are exceptionally good.
    A - Reds, Blues, Whites
    - Reds are the jack of all trades Pikmin but with a power boost. They're objectively better than most types simply for their combat capabilities alone. Always useful in almost every situation.
    - Blues gained much needed usefulness this time around, with fully underwater sections where Winged can't even be useful. Sprinklers and Geysers were a great addition to making blues much more valuable.
    - Whites' speed is very useful, and considering the new poison enemies in 4, where even squashing a dwarf moldy bulborb isn't easy for any other types, Whites get a good amount of usage that other types simply cannot stand up to, thanks to poison hazards and enemies. Only thing that brings them down is their removed ability to see buried treasures, which should have been retained. Would have made them a requirement to complete certain caves and areas of the game, which would have been nice.
    B - Winged, Glow, Yellow
    - Winged Pikmin are still decent, but are nowhere near as busted as they used to be. Unfortunately, their carrying ability isn't as good, as they tend to take the standard paths unless there is a better one. In most situations, they're no more useful than other Pikmin, and lack a resistance, meaning they're only really good for carrying things, which puts them in competition with Whites, who I believe are much faster.
    - Glow Pikmin are generally restricted to night mode, but they can do everything. Very useful, and are only brought down by their restrictions.
    - Yellow Pikmin are still decent, but underwhelming thanks to Electricity not being fully lethal anymore. Their digging ability really should have been moved to Whites, and their higher throwingarc isn't nearly as useful because of Oatchi's ramming ability. Knocking things off ledges with Oatchi sadly invalidates Yellows alot.
    C - Rock
    - Rock Pikmin have definitely gotten the shaft in Pikmin 4. Yes, they have crush resistance, but that was even nerfed to be useless on hard floors now. Not to mention, their impact damage seems to be much lower than it was in 3, which may be due to higher health pools on enemies, I'm unsure. Either way, Rocks definitely don't hold up like in 3.

New blue pikmin ability: Bite. It's their own way of fighting similar to how rock pikmin don't latch on. I think this would up their damage just a bit, but not to 1.5x.
New yellow pikmin ability: dart. When you throw yellow pikmin, they land feet first, like a dart. It adds a bit of landing damage similar to purples, and also a slight homing effect.

  • @ShurikanBlade

The problem imo with Yellows and Whites is that you get yellows so early that they become obsolete in late game because they have to introduce 6 more types after yellow and theyre abilities are purely field and non combative abilities
-Whites also have a similar problem except the opposite. They're introduced so late into the game and aren't even given an onion in the main story that they're not really ever given a chance to do more with because most people will probably have 20 Whites by the time white pikmin are actually needed if they don't get their onion first which requires you to beat 2 whole side modes to unlock plus even if they are the fastest they're outclassed by wings because wings take shortcuts whike Whites must always stick to the path
-erm actually reds also have the ability to break dirt walls faster 🤓🤓
    - I still hate the notion that "blue pikmin are good because this area" in truth that's just bad game design. Since you have to make a whole area and locked sections dedicated to one pikmin type because they're ability is so useless everywhere else. It's bad game design because no other pikmin can enter and unlike with every other hazard you just have to destroy it and boom your other pikmin are now useful again but with water you can ONLY use blues and every other pikmin becomes irrelevant until that section is completed. That's bad game design through and through because it doesn't make me allocate my resources. It makes me take 100 blues out to do this locked section then return them when I'm done using them. If there was a lava only stage where I could only bring reds people would call would call it bad design
-I think that having a pikmin limit was a bad choice but it's kinda fixed by the fact that oatchi can have every pikmin ability. It just goes to show that field skill pikmin like yellows, Whites and wings become less useful because they're abilities are too niche to recommend when there's such a strict limit when you could take more versatile pikmin like reds, ice and purple who not only have good field skills but good combat skills. You can't even have every pikmin type for the final boss. The game for some reason removes candy pop buds if you try to take every kind and so at most you can only bring 7 out of 9 types.

The caves in Pikmin 2 were so chaotic that having White Pikmin to grab a treasure and make a mad dash for the ship rather than fight them all was an incredibly useful strategy in certain cases. 9.The Worst Pikmin Type is Probably Yellow Pikmin, Considering The fact that electric immunity unlocks sooner than Poison Immunity, and also due to the fact that oatchi can Dig Faster than them at max dig level, Plus electric hazards aren’t used much, and Consider Oatchi 1 hits gates/walls with Ultra spicy spray. 8. Wings: Although they can fly, I find that their Path finding is really bad, i find myself using whites more often than wings, or maybe thats just me. 7. Whites: because whites lack combat power and the ability to see underground treasures, I feel putting them here is as high as they will go. 6. Reds: Red pikmin have an ability that CANNOT be replicated, so i feel putting them here is right. 5. Blues I feel putting blues here is acceptable, considering that they dont have an ability that cannot be replicated, but oatchi cannot attack underwater when being controlled, so I feel putting them here is good. 4: rocks: if you have a lot of them, you can swarm them on enemies to deal tons of instant damage. In my opinion, rocks got buffed in this game because their AI is Greatly Increased, (maybe even the best in the game) because they jump up at enemies, + their 85% crush resistance is good. 3. Glow Pikmin: Makes night mode easy, Makes certain caves easy, basically one of the best pikmins in the game. Ice pikmin: Ice pikmin have so many abilities to the point where its right to put them here. 1. Purples: THE KING IS BACK! Must have in party at all times

Reds were probably, other than winged, my least used type for pikmin 4, mainly because the types I used were usually the recommended types, and reds are not recommended in any of the overworld areas after the first one and the giants hearth. And even then after I had burnt all the hay they were quickly redundant again

im definitely bias as whites have been my favourite type since i was a kid but i use them a lot. their movement speed is actually super useful in the overworld as they can probably get twice as many tasks done as other pikmin. theyre perfect for carrying corpses and treasure to base or building bridges and walls. if i need to get a lot done in one day (or when ive gone back to 100% old areas) i make sure to bring white pikmin to get everything done faster!! id argue they should be above wings as i believe they both have the goal of transport - but whites just do it better imo. besides water, you usually destroy all hazards you come by when youre exploring so usually your pikmin wont need to cross hazards to bring stuff back to your base. whites are just more efficient than wings for me!

I think yellow’s should be ranked higher than winged Pikmin. Winged Pikmin have a 0.5x damage multiplier while yellows have normal. Yellows also have a 4x dig speed and can be thrown higher which invalidates winged Pikmin with flying enemies, as you can just throw yellow Pikmin at them. Throw enough and they’ll be knocked down allowing you to charge your other Pikmin at them.

Honestly, I don't even think yellows need Pikmin 2 electricity to be better, and I'll be honest, insta kills are never fun for me. It's true that it's pretty easy to save electrocuted pikmin, but if there were just more electric hazards and enemies in the game (especially early on) they would have much better utility for convenience. Maybe electricity should kill slightly faster or something, but I like having the ability to save Pikmin rather than losing your whole squad in a split second like some Pikmin 2 bs.

  • @chaaps8915

Ice pikmin ARE good, but... you really don't need them the second you get purple or rock pikmin. the ice damage just is overshadowed when you can one shot almost anything. Winged pikmin are also way too low. Even though they occasionally have buggy pathfinding, is that really something new for a pikmin game? They're the best at transporting anything. They're nearly immune to almost EVERY hazard. They don't deserve to be stuck in C tier. Glow pikmin should also be a bit lower, since, as said, you can't use them outside of caves or during night. They're also really not ever necessary for caves, especially with purple/rock pikmin, so overall they're never used outside of night.
