Cabrio Washer uL Code Troubleshooting - Part 3

  • Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
  • After great aggravation with this washer throwing the uL code - unbalanced load - and dealing with several cycles of wet clothes, I embarked on a journey to repair this Whirlpool unit. Having a certain level of competency with tools and equipment, I gave it a go. After having checked the stator for any visible damage or cracks or looseness, I then proceeded to replace the suspension system (rods & springs). I document these approaches in parts 1 and 2 of this mini-series.
So far the results were not successful. Here in this video I address one of the first thinks I should have checked - basic levelness of the unit. It was quite off - let's see if that made any difference or if this has been an overall fail.
Please check with the manufacturer for your specific make and model unit. This video is posted for informational purposes only. Please consult with a professional. This is not intended to give professional advice; it is simply me proceeding through a chosen repair approach and demonstrating how I did so.

I really appreciate that, thanks for the patience with the low light filming, I know I took a lot of heat for the lack of adequate lighting in the garage where the washing machine is located. It's a very frustrating evolution, I thought I would have had the problem nipped, but as they say, your mileage may vary. Things were looking good for a while, but I'm having the trouble still, I'm on the verge of just springing for a new unit altogether at this point.

Well- after thinking a few days- I decided to look at the skator one more time and actually order a very inexpensive part that was delivered last night- Rotary Position Sensor. This was the only part I didn’t replace after replacing the bearings and staff. Again- if this didn’t work I was already preparing to redo the bearings which is a lot cheaper than a new washer/dryer set. But- 4 loads later wife thought this was the best Valentines gift ever- so quite and running like new- no error codes- BAMMM (drop the mic) 👊🏾🎤

Watched your videos after ordering a new Rotor assembly and thought dang maybe I should have ordered the suspension stuff too. Guess what though the new Rotor Assembly did the trick. Old one was rubbing on the stator assembly causing the UL error.

My washer is doing the same thing and I replaced the suspension rods (OEM). Contrary to what I was told, it didn't fix the error code. I should have checked the stator assembly when I had access to it but I didn't. I will see if the stator is cracked and if not, it's time to chuck it.
The design of these units is just too complicated. I also have a 21-year old Maytag washer and dryer which are still working fine without any issues and this Cabrio is 8-years old. All that whizbang electronics is not adding up to reliability. Such bad design.

The problem with all of these machines is the poor quality of the shaft, they rust out and the tub seizes on it.
I just finished replacing the shaft, bearings and seal and it now works like it has never worked before.
Most people don't understand how these machine work, the tub has a flotation chamber on the bottom and a smaller hollow ring on the top.
Both have a partial fill of liquid for balancing.
The most important thing is that the tub must be able to float up and down, about 1/4 to 3/8 , this can be easily checked by grabbing the tub and pulling it up and letting it drop,it should do this without any resistance.
If it binds or wont move the shaft needs replacing

@@AndyMahnFL411 No apologies necessary at all. Your videos were great. Step by step and to the point. I'll take a bit of low light over the wrong approach any day. I will say this. The springs on mine are completely shot. No tension at all. Freewheeling!! So just as a test, I took them all out and manually pressed down the spring a bit and wrapped electrical tape around the rod itself above the spring to hold the tension on it. I wasn't expecting it to fix the problem but at least give me an idea if anything changed. The spin cycle started and it ran smooth for the first time in almost a year. Usually it would go uL before the actual spin cycle even got going. It ran smooth until the tape slipped up the rod on one of them. I knew that was going to happen though.
