All 4 of my sons are of age to start going with me so now my wallet gets the pleasure of buying 4 more shotguns and camo that fits them for one season.....lol
Go to your state’s game and fish commission website and they should have areas listed. They probably have maps on there too. If not you can probably use google earth.
Use Google maps and look under standard mode and find green blocks of land. Alot of these will be public land. Switch into satellite view and look for ducks flying by.... lol no look for water and swamps that look accessable. The most important part is now you have to go to these places and scout them and find what you think is the best spot and the second or third best spots. Then hunt them!!

It’s a heck of a long shot and I’m lucky I came out on top but u can always try at your favorite hunting organization banquets. I’ve won two shotguns at pheasants forever and I know people have won some at DU, delta waterfowl, national turkey wild turkey federation and etc etc... It’s a long shot but u can get some good gear. Plus it all goes to a good cause.
If you are on this tight of a budget, and do not have a gun, look for a Remington 870 express combo. It is a 12g pump shotgun that is chambered for 3" shells and the combo comes with a rifled barrel that is good for your deer hunting either with the iron sights on it, or with a sight rail mounted to the gun. It also has a "field barrel" which is a 26" or 28" barrel with interchangeable chokes using the standard remchoke threading. Down the road when you can afford a better rifle for your deer hunting, and you can afford a better shotgun for your duck hunting, put a red dot sight on it with the field barrel and a turkey choke then wrap the thing in strips of camo blind burlap and you will have an EXCELLENT dedicated turkey gun. That one gun will be suitable for Deer, Duck, Goose, Turkey, Quail, Dove, Pheasant, Squirrel, Rabbit, and protecting the home. I have had mine for close to 20 years now, but I believe they can still be found for around $500. My only complaint is the stock is low quality wood (to keep the price down as compared to other Remington 870 models), but if you keep it well oiled with boiled linseed oil, it will last a lifetime. Alternately, amazon has synthetic stocks for it for under $60 and picatinny sight rail for under $70 (I have a slightly more expensive stock set giving me a pistol grip as I now use my 870 primarily as a dedicated turkey gun with a red dot and a burlap gillie wrap).
Cheap is not the problem, the issue I have is finding someone to teach me to hunt duck, finally a buddy put me in touch with an old co worker, but the ones I asked basically told me where to go
I’ve got 18 decoys that cost me roughly $75. My waders cost about $70. I hunt with a Mossberg maverick 88 which is $190. My favorite shells are federal blue box which are $14. My call is the duck commander duck picker which was $25. Total of $374 gun and ammo included. Expensive gear doesn’t improve performance. There’s no substitute for shooting skill.
A good way to save money is plan for next year hunt by looking for use gear on craigslist or even at yard sale during the off season. For some of us we can't afford buying ammo by the bulk so what I tend to do is every time I go to the store I'll try to buy 1 or 2 boxes so when the season starts I would have about 200 rounds ready.
People CAN afford to buy ammo by the case. Just gotta not buy cigs, dip, junkfood and fast food every day on the way to and from work. Most ppl can easily save 300/month by eliminating purchases of poisonous garbage.
Thanks for the video! Definatly helped me. I mainly need decoys to get started and a call. I got a steal on waiders last summer. There was a big tent sale and there was some super nice frogtoggs for $200 new, on sale for $150 I think and just so happened that there were like half of of the already marked down price, and so I got a $200 pair of waiders for under $70! Like I said I mainly need decoys and going to get the triple threat duck commander call. I'm probably going to wait till sometime this spring and wait for the Cabela's decoys to go on sail (already has weights and cords, and I think a dozen floaters) for I believe about $90 normal Price, and we'll I can't use them until fall so as mine as well wait till I can get a good deal

Well a dozen duck decoys is 80bucks, a buck gardener double nasty poly duck call is 20, and then a cheap shotgun at a pawn shop is about 200. A box of shells is 15 dollars at walmart, and a pair of waders get fly fishing waders and put a ghilly suit over them 150 bucks for both, 460 for everything and you have quality stuff you can use for several years and build on. Use your old tennis shoes cause you will definitely loose some shoes in the mud till you get boot foot waders.
Prices way higher now! Waders around $169, decoys 6-pack is $37… by the time you finish up to around $260. Still not bad though. I should probably wait until after season in spring.
I bought some decoys at a yard sale for cheap over the summer because I wanted to give waterfowl a try. Now I've spent way too much money (still spending too) and I'm more excited to shoot birds than deer.

$95 for a 12 pack of decoys now, the economy has gone to shit in the last 3 years, even generic turkey decoys have doubled in price.
If you get cheap decoys, make sure to put 4-5 thin coats of matte clear spray paint. That will help paint chipping

How quickly does everyone go through waders?! I got my first pair when I was 16 and they lasted til I was in my mid 20’s i now go through them about every 2 years. Haven’t had any issues with the neoprene, the rubber boots like I said fail roughly every 2 years. I’m thinking about spraying them down with flex seal or using the flex seal paint to patch them from here on out. Does anyone else out there have any better advice?
I get 4 yrs out of my Lacrosses but it’s tough to find long term waders
Mid Valley Mercenaries - for sure. What sucks is I always realize they are failing when I’m in the field. You never see holes in your boots when your dry in your garage.
Yep every time
High n dry waders or Cabela's brand 😉
Here I am just dropping 3k for new gear for me and my son. But we are going to have fun.
So do you pilot helicopters for a living
