As we get closer to goose/duck season, a video comparing different types of layout blinds would be amazing. Differences in opinion of the flip up vs double door, frame vs no frame, etc.
I have a friend that goes out before the hunt and sets blind up. Then flies a drone up to check concealment. Definitely time consuming but with friends it goes quick and gives great view of your concealment.
Can you please make a video of how to set duck decoy spreads? Ik a lot of ppl make them but I was wondering if you could use like a piece of paper along with it and actually draw it out. I’m pretty new to duck hunting and have just been trying to learn a lot of it on my own bc duck hunting where I live is so hard the guys that are good at it are extremely secretive! Love the videos keep it up
Best advice I can give you is scout your area and try to make your spread look as natural & realistic as possible. 90% of the time I keep it simple with a horse shoe or J hook, but remember bird’s always come into the wind and it’s nice to have a “kill hole” for where you want to take your shots at. Keep at it and you’ll be just fine
Somethuing that might help your learning process is to figure out wind direction, then set up a crescent looking C or J area curling out away from blind in such a manner as to create a "landing spot" in front of your blind that the ducks will set their wings and "cup" into. There are different variations, but you might find this method to be a great starting point and then as you watch them react to your location, you can adjust for where you see them landing to strengthen your spread to maximize your shooting opportunities. I also recommend a jerk rig or a wing spinner to ensure birds see movement to trick them to cup into your water hole! I hope this at least helps you head in the right direction! Good luck, it's a lifetime of fun even learning how to place good decoys, and you should pick it up fast if you haven't already!
Also, keep your feeder ducks in close to land, grouping like to like ducks together, and as you work that C or J out away from shore, work out to your smaller diver ducks, this immitates more real duck behavior than throwing them out willy nilly with no rhyme or reason.
Put decoys where you don't want ducks to land. Leave a hole with a clear entry and you can put ducks where you want them PROVIDING that you're very well hidden and not pie facing. 😅
Could you do an "advanced" duck hunter video in terms of equipment? You've covered getting started with the basics. But how about the next step? Like if someone wants to get a little more into it. Maybe cover somethings they could upgrade too. Nicer shotgun, better decoys etc.
In Arkansas public timber it’s a huge pet peeve for me that people don’t get a good hole or have a bad setup and by 7:30-8:00 they’re running their boat around shot chasing. That’s not an ethical way to hunt and it screws up other people’s day. I’ve had days, as I’m sure a lot of people have, where you’re on the x killing birds and shot chasers roll up on you set in their boat 100 yards or less from where you are and just watch with no concerns with their concealment and just shuts the hunt down.
Love the videos not a new duck hunter, but have Learned so much from your channel keep up the good work we appreciate your time!! Best of luck this season!! maybe we can have a good one here in Oklahoma this year
Daniel Dudzinski You’d be surprised. Where I hunt ducks come in small groups. I have use 6 decoys and limited out before guys with 3 dozen shot a duck. It’s all about looking natural. I usually scout to see how many I need, but where I go I never use more than 18. If I was hunting a rice field or something I’d want as many as possible. Just depends.
Sound advice on both ends. There are places where you only see pairs or groups of 3 or 4 and that's it so you go small. On the other end of the spectrum when you are at the point where two flyways merge and you're covered in ducks go large. There aren't many places where two flyways merge. If you're into ducks you know exactly where I'm talkin about.
Minute 5:42 of your video states 'don't shot a bird(duck) if you can't retrieve it'. Hunters, let's be conscious about shooting a bird that's flying a little too far; oftentimes the bird will 'escape', but it won't recuperate; keep in mind, the bird will suffer an open infection, pain, starvation and it may end up as wasted food...
I hunt plenty of deep water without a boat or dog. I’ve never had any problems retrieving ducks or geese with a fishing pole rigged up with a salmon treble hook with a steelhead slinky weight tied on the bottom. Works wonders.
Over calling and calling too loud is a big thing a lot of people do, I try to always, for mallards at least, call at their tail instead of at their face. And I give a mellow 4-5 notes of the comeback. Also feed chuckle should only be done in 6-12 inches of water and done in short splits, not super fast and loud.
Hey guys. Long time subscriber here. I’d love some input on the following: I’m in NC. Hunt mostly on Eastern Shore MD. Sad to say but the AP is all but dead, boys. One-bird limit and only a 30-day contiguous season. No split. What was once the Mecca of Canada goose hunting is getting really close to going back to a moratorium I’m afraid. So I’m 60. Active and fit. Professional vid editor and still very involved in my business, but have tons of freedom finally. Doesn’t matter where I live... Am thinking about moving to Midwest or upper Midwest for Oct-Dec this year. Cheap rental, etc. My modus operandi is light and fast solo field hunting. Mostly geese. Three dozen sillos and a layout blind. In and out. Leaving nothing but boot prints. QUESTION: If you could go anywhere in the US for those three months to hunt geese, where would it be? And why... Looking primarily for two characteristics: 1 - Reasonable chance to have good migratory numbers. 2 - Reasonable chance to find farmers that are receptive to having a respectable guy coming up unannounced and humbly asking permission...even if they decline. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated...
Biggest mistake is not moving to where the ducks want to be. I usually put out a smaller spread to start and ready to move when most of the ducks are landing on the X..that is where to move to.
I been hunting for several years and i made mistake number 1 yesterday. Pulled up way to early and sky blasted at two birds at first lite. I felt like a idiot😂 I immediately regretted it and said my bad! Should have let the birds work if they wanted to
I had the wind in my face last year happen. It was a 2 hour drive from my house and the wind direction was different. Fought ice all morning to get a hole open barely got set up before daylight. However, ended up killing a black duck and a banded drake mallard!
I have no choice but to show up late. So I won't be avoiding that one. Lol. Sucks when the school district doesn't provide transportation for your kids.
#6 Don't hunt with a whiny friend of your hunting buddy you ask your buddy "is he a good guy" and all he does is complain might as well brought my wife
Brad Swygard my granddad would always tell me, “Don’t shoot right as you jump the pond, wait until their wings raise up and then shoot. You can cripple a whole bunch and finish them once they are on the ground. You can get 6 or 7 that way!”
hunting too close to other hunters. Not all ducks land into the wind some land with the wind. watch some of my videos and u see some land with the wind
A month or so, was given a duck boat for my grad present! So it’s pumping to have duck/goose season right around the corner! Come up here sometime! Some great lakes for ducks
#1- Good Point, but, it took you until 3:26 to get to #2. Sorry you lost me... I'm on to the next video - we like the 5 points because they can be quick and on to the next one. How about providing the information and a quick Video clip of what you are talking about rather than sitting in front of your computer camera lecturing us.... maybe I'll stop back but if it starts out the same way - gone like a Green Wing Teal when the ice starts to show...
Good info but we can only stare at you for so long. How about breaking away to some video examples of what you are referring to. It make take a little more effort but your videos will have more appeal.
Anyone else got the duck fever already?
Me 🙋♂️
Heck ya
I had it the day the season ended
40 more days till teal season... but who's counting 😉😂
I've had it ever since last season ends
Solid advice. The only time I can get right out of bed is to go hunting...hit the snooze a couple of time for work but never to get in the marsh!
MrBowNaxe never for the marsh is right! Wake right up when the hunting alarm goes off every time
About to go on my first duck hunt ever Saturday appreciate this video

YES IT IS!
I've definitely done all of these before at some point. Good vid!
Never been duck hunting hopefully going this weekend as my first time and thanks for the good Advice and tips
I've never been waterfowl hunting. Got a lot of good tips from all your videos. Thank you. Wish me luck:)
Hope you are still hunting!!

Matthew Hargrove dude no shit last year here in ok was shit
Love the videos. One of my favorite youtubers. Seems like a cool guy
Could you maybe make a video about over the shoulder vs backpack style blind bags. Thanks for all the info you give
Skybusting, over calling, decoy setup isn’t natural looking (too many decoys, no movement, odd layout etc.), NOT PRACTICING SHOOTING! Biggest mistakes I’ve seen.
Cmon you can never have TOO MANY decoys

@@SwampDonkey07 actually less is more for decoys. I only take 6 and a robo, and usually turn off the robo after the sun comes up , over water.

They're pretty great!

thanks for the tips. keep it up big dog.
Ya deal with back shooting or side shooting, do some sporting clays for the practice

Would you still suggest hunting wind at your back, if that would mean the sun is also in your face? Or would you set up with a side wind?
Wind in your face means they’re gonna come from behind you and that’s just a no go! Side wind or wind to your back or nothing at all!

Passing on a good chance to make a pile happened to me a few times lol
Another big factor is settling up with the sun in your face
Your first shot happens on the water if possible. I hunt for meat first and then when the fridge starts filling up we hunt for sport.
Just got a Chesapeake bay puppy, to bad it wont be ready till next year. Maybe its time you get a dog?
I'll hopefully get a dog after I buy a house and get married next spring

Why do people start calling birds 2 or even 3 hours befor shooting light? Do they think the ducks are going to stay there for that long?
I guess you hit that 2k goal eventually
Ive had 2 of the best hunts on my life in 30+ feet of water
Pulling up too early. Takes experience to know when its time.
The biggest mistake ppl make is appointing themself "marsh pope" and trying to make everyone hunt their way.

Not having your gun with you when you go to pick up decoys.. a bird will almost always come into range when you are picking them up. At least for me
Not taking your gun when you are going to retrieve a bird because you are so excited
Truth
The early bird usually gets the bird!
Hunt where the birds want to be. If they want to be on the other side of the pond move.
1 not hunting over corn and molasses
what are your thoughts on walking in on plubic land
Done it many many times
What hunter hasn’t looked up a flared birds
Would you like to duck hunt with me in Tn?
Too deep…… bring a fishing rod always 😂
Number one fault of hunters is movement. Birds will spot movement instantly.
What about a night hunt
on average, if you are producing lots of cripples you are shooting at birds that are too far away. Just a suggestion.
wind doesn’t matter if you’re diver hunting lmao
I am going to have to disagree because maybe Blue Bill's will come in but try Cans or redheads
Grey Redmond vlogs I have decoyed both over land when the wind switched and had been blowing in my face so idk
