Just cycling back through some of the old podcasts, and recalled this epic convo you had. Barney is a BEAST. AWESOME stuff.

Great video as usual!! If you want some practice pulling tickets come to Oklahoma I’ve had 34 bites in about 2 hours just hanging a tree stand. Usually if you get them off with in 24 hours you’ll be fine but I have had some friends get pretty sick tho

Where can we find Brian's seminar?

We get tons of ticks deer/pig hunting in East Texas. Best thing to do is not be too rough with them if one digs in. Gently twist it until it releases. That’ll make sure it doesn’t break off in the skin👌🏻

The ticks in Montana are slow, clumsy, and kinda docile- I've pulled 4 dozen off me, and only one was dug in on the side of my thigh. And it's only been in April/May.
But where I grew up in the Midwest- they will dig in almost immediately, and are active from early April through November. And they generally go under your waistband, armpits, but especially around your "groin", etc. Except for the "seed ticks" that are smaller than a pinhead, which love to dig into your ankles by the hundreds.
    God, I hate ticks.

I would like to know the name of the spray you use to protect yourself from ticks.

You can use permethrin from Sawyer. I just don't like to get it on or near my skin. I will spray down my pack, boots etc. Just nothing that comes in contact with my skin.

I had planned on putting the calls away this season and really focusing on the stalk.. this just solidified it for me. I like the idea of the elk never even knowing I was there. As always, great content! Keep em coming!

I like that saying, "not stalking to failure". I think where most people lose it or rush themselves is because they know their time is limited. Every day becomes crunch time. But I have heard you and Ryan say often, we have plenty of time, we are just going to stay until we get him. For me there's a difference in the way I let things (stalks) play out when I know I have all the time in the world and I'm the only one there. I'm much more patient and I like being in the moment of playing that game, again and again and again. And it's those interactions that become the memories you take home with you, whether or not you take the animal. And it's difficult to explain that to someone that has not been in that situation before.

I've luckily not had to use it since they've tried to bite me but never actually latched on, but ive been carrying a tiny aluminum thing called a tick key you can use to pry a tick off safely for years now. You might check it out if you haven't heard of them, they weigh nothing. I keep it on a keychain with a mini compass on my pack just in case. Great episode, I've heard barney on several podcasts but now im binging his eastmans elevated podcast and loving it

We all want to be in control of what we think is our hunt , but 95% of the time theres a time to call and a time to be silent or call just enough to stay in the game, wether be elk, turkey, moose, when their motivation is sex or if it is predatory with coyote, bobcat, fox, and as you know, yes even bears with a varmint call, it is by far better to call less than to blow them out of the wood in my own opinion, mine is with an I in Brian great to hear of a different look at how to get it done, great podcast keep it gritty

Howdy bros...Old timers around here chewed on match heads. They said the sulfur in them gave their sweat a stank that the bugs didn't like. I don't know if it is true but there might be something to it.
