    I love the clear Godfather influences with the quiet plotting in dimly lit rooms. The boss talking with his consigliere and his heir. I also appreciate how the Emperor respects his daughter enough to see her as his successor more than whomever she’d have married.

      They also used apocalypse now as an influence.
      So nice to see quality is still appreciated.

      @@andrefigueredo34just curious because apocalypse now is one of my favorite films. But how exactly did you mean this scene inspired by it? I’d just love to know your opinion on it

    • @andrefigueredo34
      @andrefigueredo34 3 дня назад +2

      Not this scene specifically, but Stellan Skarsgard put more colonel Kurtz in his portrayal than the actual baron from the books.
      Also both movies start with an expository monologue that reminds me of captain Willard reading Kurtz's files.
      apocalypse now is one of my favorites too along with the godfather.

    The Atreides were popular and were learning how to cultivate soldiers of sardaukar Calibre.
    The Harkonnens had the wealthiest and most industrialized planets.
    Shaddam was aware of his precarious position but the true enemy to the system were the Bene Gesserit they had no loyalty to the Imperium only to their projects.

      Yes you are right. If I were the Emperor in Dune, I would use my Sardaukar to destroy the Bene Gesserit. I would never accept this witch cult in my inner circles and never allow them to spread their religious propaganda in my empire.

      The original BG plan was to create peace...a peaceful union of Atreides and Harkonnen through marriage, and a peaceful takeover of the throne by the KH

      he had no sons, should've just had Leto marry Irulan - then you have peace. Atreides + Sarkdukar forces would be unopposed.

      @@aliali-ce3yf But then he would antagonize the Harkonnens who held much influence, wealth and the spice, also the other houses were already afraid of the Sardaukar many wouldn't support such move which would cause internal strife in the imperium.

      @@koko40800 That's not true. The BG always wanted to create the perfect hegemony by hoarding all kinds of power, building an autarchy structure under their control.

    Rewatching the Emperor and Irulan scenes I do like this depiction way more, it's only they are not in enough scenes and what screentime they have are all quite short (mostly under 2 minutes each), a bit like Christopher Nolan's pacing actualy however the rest of the Dune films are more slow and immersive. Essentially, wish they were in more and have more screentime for us to properly know the characters.

    She could've suggested transporting the Freman to Caladan , since now the Atreides were no more. The Fremen would have all the water they wanted, leaving the spice fields to be cultivated.

      The fremen would never have left their ancestral home. Their sietches, their culture was built around their life on arrakis, they wanted Arrakis to be liberated and theirs again. They would have had to be removed by force and the problem would remain

    @aliali-ce3yf The thing is that The Padishah Emperor character was not supposed to look like an old man. The Spice had its way on Saddam IV: He was an about 70 yo man, with a look of a youthful 30 something. P.D. I wish I had the Spice...

    Christopher Walken is a superb actor. But I think the producers had to find someone that could fit better the Emperor as depicted character in the novels

    • @dv2045
      @dv2045 18 дней назад +16

      Christopher Walken its not that bad pick (we have seen him in high ranking roles) but there are not many (living) actors who can project authority. In the last 3 years we lost Tom Wilkinson, John Hurt and Sean Connery. The only option are either Jeremy Irons, Malcolm McDowell or Charles Dance but I wouldnt use Charles due his role Tywin Lannister in GoT would have prevailed over this role. Other choices could be Werner Herzog (The Client in Mandalorian) or Gabriel Byrne or Christopher Plummer (this last would be my pick)

      @@dv2045 All the actors You mentioned are more than qualified to be the Padishah Emperor. If I have to pick one, I would go with Charles Dance. His Tywin Lannister was terrific. My forever favorite Emperor of the Known Universe is José Ferrer, though

      Actually, I thought that he was perfect in the role. Many of the other characters are not that big a fit either, including Chani, but they are all very good. The dynamic between Irulan and the Emperor was a good one; would have liked to have seen them in happier times.

      @@poetasintierraCharles dance would have been amazing as the emperor but as the first person pointed out, it would have been so similar to his role as Tywin Lannister it would have almost been a copy paste and people definitely would have picked on that. I think the problem with Christopher walken is that he’s just, Christopher walken in everything he’s in but he did a great job portraying the emperor as an old man, who’s power is slipping away from him bit by bit and becomes more and more desperate and afraid by the end while still maintaining the aura of a man who’s been in power for a long time
