I hardly ever pay attention to outfits, but I was blown away by Irulan’s outfits. Not only is she beautiful, but her dresses make her look like a true princess of the universe
fun fact, the reason why irulan wears so many headpieces is to signify how she is/was/will be constantly trapped- denis mentioned this detail himself!
Even tho we wanted chani to marry Paul we can’t deny that the girl got drip
got what?

I loved how Denis made Irulan an assertive princess type instead of the dainty princess type. Made her much more interesting and moves the story better imho
Jesus, she's trained by the Bene Gesserit. What do you expect? All the princesses and nobility in the Dune world have been trained and prepared for their roles from birth. VOICE training, combat training, internal control of body functions, political manipulation and so on. Nothing is left to chance when the stakes are so high. Read the books!!! You'll get a much deeper insight into the Dune universe.
Frank Herbert made Irulan assertive. At least she is in the other books. In the first one she barely exists.
honestly she's a perfect cast. In the books she's described as this beautiful princess but that's assertive and even has a slight 'bitchyness' or sense of entitlement, and this actress portrays that perfectly
Irulan is one of the most interesting and human characters in the second two novels. She makes some bad decisions (that aren’t entirely her fault alone) and then atones and bears her ‘unnecessary’ or somewhat humiliating function as figurehead with a lot of dignity and becomes a great historian among other things. She’s never really been a frivolous person in any version of the story.
@@mb7626also most innocent because she was forced into all of this just because she was daughter of emperor and she also wasn't a very good bg too making her just a pawn used by big big players
Her outfits will go down in cinema's history as purely iconic 🔥
Especially that chain mail one at the end I mean that looks cool
She looks like she’s wearing a badly constructed chain-link fence
Not really, but do hope costume designer on Dune is nominated for an Oscar... the wraps are astonishing.... All three women not in Stil suits had fantastic costume... the Stil suits were magnificent... incredible costume design!!!
Facts, I think she had some of the best costumes in part 2, simple but powerful.
No
The costuming for Irulan is insane. I love the way it becomes more and more prison-like as the film goes along and she slowly becomes a pawn in Paul’s larger political scheming.
EDIT: The Bene Gesserit too. It’s true that Irulan has _always_ been a pawn according to the books, but I just thought this was a cool cinematic way to visualize her gradual realization of her place in all this.
Good observation
But irulan was always a pawn to the BG and to the imperium. In the book she is always treated like an idiot by others
She was always the pawn who got used by bene geseret her father and later on Paul her arc is very sad she was innocent in whole thing
Did not think of it that way. There are so many layers to the film and how it conveys things. Unfortunately it's not always all that accessible. I feel like you really need to read and understand the books to pick up on a lot of the visual cues they put throughout.
I think a lot of people underestimate how symbolic costuming and hair tend to be in media, Irulan’s outfits becoming more elaborate yet prison-like were definitely intentional. The costume department for sure put a lot of thought into it.
I love how smart her character is. It’s subtle but brilliant
Not smart enough for either Alia or Paul.
She seems thoughtful and intuitive
In the book she is not like that at all, she said to be slow and naive by others and she isnt an advanced BG
In the books at first she is described as lazy only kept in the order for her position.
Then she betrays Paul trying to prevent an heir, but later repents and tries to make amends.
If they follow that plot it will put Irulan right in the center.
Yeah in the books it's said that Irulan wasn't very adept with her bene Gesserit skills because she never really tried. She was a lazy student and the sisterhood never pushed her to be better because her position as crown princess is all they needed from her.
Here in the movie it seems like they're trying to make her equal to Lady Jessica and I wonder how that will play out if we get a third movie.
Irulan's fate is cruel and mimics how conquerors treated women who held the position of power. She understands he role as the pawn in the bigger game where she only exists to legitimize Paul's right to the throne and a bargaining chip for her father and siblings.
I loved Florence and Christopher so much. The subtle ways of clothing, posture and actions were brilliant.
if Messiah starts as the book, We're gonna have a lot more iconic Florence stuff
Are there other children of the emperor ?
Didn’t read the books.
You sound like you're unaware of what happens with her. And also what the Bene Gesserit planned for her all along.
Irulan doesn't need much sympathy. She's Bene Gesserit and was never going to rule. The Bene Gesserit themselves never planned for it.
Irulan's destiny was always to be a manipulator of men in power, same as all Bene Gesserit. In fact, the role the BG envisioned for her was to control and manipulate the Kwisatz Haderach that was intended all along to take the throne from House Corrino. And that's _almost_ exactly what Irulan got. She did indeed get the KH as her husband and emperor, but the KH ended up being a man neither she nor the other BG could control...
@@ryanmussell739 He has several daughters. No sons. Which was essential to why he decided to try and destroy House Atreides.
Shaddam IV has no sons because the Bene Gesserit woman he married made sure not to give him any. The Bene Gesserit planned for House Corrino to lose the throne all along. They installed a Reverend Mother as Shaddam's advisor, had another Bene Gesserit seduce and marry him, made sure he only had daughters, and indoctrinated his eldest daughter Irulan into the Bene Gesserit, intending to make her more loyal to the sisterhood than to her own House.
@@CognizantCheddar This guys speaking facts rn
I just watched Dune 2, she left a great mark on me. Excellent movie.
That jewel head dress is stunning 😍
She's such a great actress oml
She's gonna have a bigger role in part 3. I can't wait to see Florence's performance ❤
And her on screen chemistry with Tim is amazing. You have to watch Little Women.
@@c.l.m.4726 I know! I'm a big fan of both! And I love amy and laurie 💕
Florence Pugh's metallic costume at 2:20 and her cool, steely gaze make her look more like an empress than just a princess! Love this flawless shot.
I also have to give credit to the editing of this tribute. Well done!
Wow! I really hope Denis does justice to her character like he did with Chani
Denis does not write poor scripts
🤦♂
I did not like what he did with Chani at the end at all. It just rang false to me.
He completly ignored the ending of the book and the subsequent books of this universe to do what? To have a blond nobel princess at the side of Paul instead of a "brown" fremen. It strikes me as racist change.
At least we know the following:
Part one pictures part one of the original book accurately.
Part two deviates from the book in major points.
Part three will be a complete invention of Denis Villeneuve.
She is certainly by far the most compelling character in the whole movie!!!! What a queen!!!
Not really. just say you're a fan. Every major actor in this movie is compelling. Florence hasn't had the time to be compelling. She has a great voice! Dune 2 is Paul and Chani with Feyn and Paul's mother Josh and Javier... everyone is sooo good
She'll really shine in the next movie
Dune 1984 Princes Irulan (Virginia Madson) will for me always be the true Princes Irulan end of.
OMG! I was literally hoping you would put together an edit for her since she is one of my favorite characters from the series.
The book describes Paul and Irulan's relationship as cold but I believe Denis is going to make more big changes on the book. With the on screen chemistry between Tim and Florence I think it's going to be a more spiritual relationship. That's why Denis specifically chose Florence to play Irulan. When Paul eventually meets his downfall, as he will, Irulan will be the one next to him. I think Chani won't forgive him and she hates the person he has become. The humble boy became a power hungry maniac. I think the 3rd film will be more focused to Irulan.
But I could be wrong!
Her headpieces looks like a medieval knight’s headpiece.
SO DAMN GOOD!!!!! What a video! So cinematic. I think Irulan will be nothing like the books, instead of running after she and her side will plan to get rid this dangerous fanatic leader and remain/regain power. Those 2 summed up conversations how explain the situation and plants the contermeasure feels like an organic assessment of the counterparts while also instructive, feels like master writing. With the right pacing, visuals and words you can convey SO MUCH in little time, Rousso's joke in 2045 is a perfect example.
I didnt expect irulan to be like this, plot of part 2 is already thick with both gfs, his children will be his and his mom demise if he's not careful.
Not a movie, an event.
When Dune 3 gets made, I would like to see how Paul goes being married to Princess Irulan. I just wish we could've seen the wedding.
Yeah that was a bummer not getting to see the wedding! I also wanted to see that.
@@c.l.m.4726 there is no wedding in the books lol
a great movie and novels and the actress is excellent, all the actors are, the music is enthralling and moving, great review, thank you, she is quite a presence
I love Irulan. She was the best character for me in this movie.
It went from the first Dune having Paul as a victim turned hero. To Dune 2 with Paul been the villain murdering millions. So it was easy to go from been on his side to now on Irulans. More so knowing what the Atrides family is gonna make her go through in her new position.
This movie is a good lesson against religious figures and yet it flew over most people's minds just because Paul or *Timmy* is super hot.
The fact that you think Paul is the villain is a testament to how horrible of an adaptation this movie was. Denis failed every single character on a level that exceeds the 1984 and the Sci-fi TV show, he just made his failure look pretty.

Gonna have a big role in Dune 3.
It would be interesting to see a remake of Dune but from the viewpoint of Irulan. Something like Mists of Avalon.
Man I haven't seen the name Mists of Avalon in a long while. That unlocked some memories I forgot I had. And yes that would be very cool.
1:34 Okay i need to see her doing the box test now
Florence Pugh is a goddess.
She really is. 😍
Excellent choice for Princess Irulan!
Best Princess Irular ever...
Her and Paul's child will be the true kwisatz haderach carrying all birthrights of the 3 great houses.
after reading the books and watching the movies. I believe more firmly that the Princess and Paul are two sides of the same coin.. they are parallel mirrors of each other.
Was Irulan ever referred to by name in the movie? I don’t recall it happening
Why didn't anyone address Irulan by her name in the film?
In the book she loves Paul. But she knows he loves an other woman. She is the empress and Chani is his love.
Virginia Madsen is the real princess
Maybe. But make no mistake. Florence Pugh is a princess in her own right.
@@LukeKetchum7003 Virginia is the Galaxies most precious resource
This woman triggers every neuron in my simp brain.
She looks like she could be Walken's daughter
More like a granddaughter considering the age difference.
2:12 OOOOOHHHHH BADASS. And accurate, Gaius says in the 1st chapter how nature is incompetent for mixing genes randomly, someone (they) need to thread it wisely for the betterment of humankind.
She had gravitas, Christopher Walken didn't
Florence Pugh is perfect choice for Irulan❤ love all her outfits 🔥
She was far far better than Zendaya in terms of acting
even Rebecca Ferguson
Zendaya had one expression the whole movie: Skeptical/Angry-Pouting.
In what world. She barely had 5 minutes run time
Nah no woman can beat Rebecca Ferguson!!!
I understand about Rebecca Ferguson, but it's just a biased opinion that Florence was better than Zendaya.
она ещё не готова !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was not Mohiam's most acute student 😆😆😆😅😂
Gods below i hope there is not too much added.
Ikr, Jessica was. But I guess it's only fair that Irulan is depicted as Mohiam's most acute student as Mohiam's truthsayer to emperor himself and spent more time with Irulan than any other of her students
It made me laugh too. In the books, Irulan is depicted as dumb compared to the average Bene Gesserit.
Correct. Irulan was a genius in many ways, but was referred to as a failed Bene Gesserit.
In the books Irulan is little more then a pawn.
Denis has totally moved away from the books story. He's already made big changes and more to come I expect.
@@c.l.m.4726 Yeah. Didn't appreciate the ending of the film or how he treated Jessica's character. We shall see what happens in the next film.
I don’t think it I could be said she was a pawn. Even though she was never fully in control of the situations around her she still served as an important advisor to Paul and Alia and was the in universe reason why Paul’s legacy was carried on
@@avarielle1582 She was a pawn for the bene gesserit and Paul saw her as nothing but a tool to use. Only after Paul was gone did she see the truth of the bene gesserit and ignored their orders and started to be Paul's historian.
I forgot the story, was it Paul, or his son Leto that becomes the God Emperor?
His son
Who is this actress?
Florence Pugh.
You guys can hate me for it but does she is the Leto’s daughter??? Like Paul’s sister??
Shes so pretty
I’d choose Florence Pugh every day of the week
Jessica had to give birth to a girl who later will marry Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen and produce Kwisatz Haderach. I miss what was Irulan role in this initial Bene Gesserit's plan.
Direct line to the emperor?
In the books she was referred to as a failed Bene Gesserit experiment. In the books she was a historian chiefly, she did conspire against the Atreides unsuccessfully, was forgiven and became a loyal part of that family and a caretaker of sorts to the younger children.
@@mikedeck8381 so when you mother is actually that one aunt but in reverse?
Yeah I suppose. In the books her nephew ends up having seven kids with Paul's daughter Ghanima.
I think all will be revealed in film 3!
princess irulan and her very oversize flip flops.
rest was ok.
This princess, judging by her tough build and facial skin, had a very hard life, working on a farm somewhere. Well, and the complete absence of a cosmetologist.
Do you ever see women in real life and not on screens?

@@avarielle1582Wrong. @briskettacos cares :D
@@briskettacos let’s be real, Florence Pugh was bloated and wrinkled in this movie. No surprise as everything I’ve seen of her behind the scenes she is a gross girl, saw one interview of her talking about carrying around deodorant to not be smelly, cursing like a sailor and pulling stale dog food & poop bags from the bottom of her purse while rocking a gross unshaven upper lip. Her hard living is catching up to her fast for being only 28. Hollywood doesn’t cast beautiful people with class anymore. She is no princess, more like queen of the chavs.

@@bubastis6306 Yeah, like slipping Yaz in Chani's food every chance she gets.😅
Ok?
Not really beautiful but much more important is how smart she is. Is able to figure out possibilities and knows what must be done for the sake of the empire and the future. She is an imposing figure and how they wrote chani's character was pathetic and stupid and didn't follow the narrative of the books nor even this weak screenplay at all. Paul would do what he must as well and political marriages are the lifeblood of many dynasties.
She would be a formidable Empress along with Paul and providing hims with heirs would be her duty. In that world chani as a concubine would fit in well. in the books she already had twins with paul which set up the next book.
seeing her storm off and the look on her face was silly and bad writing.
@@keithwalker5078 Actually pretty much to be expected. I mean, hard to think of a young woman having a different reaction.....
@@keithwalker5078She did not storm off because if the marriage. That was the last straw. She did storm off because he was no longer the Person she fell in love to. I think the person to play Princess Irulan was a bad pick to play the role, her dialog is course and bland and her acting as boring as cardboard.
She's playing the character. She's only in the film 10 minutes so nothing there to judge yet.
@@c.l.m.4726 Of course she is playing the character e.g. even though George Lucas wanted the Actors in Star Wars to be rather bland they still added some nuance and uniqueness to the characters.
@@johnwayne2103 yes but they were in the films for more than 10 minutes. In the first 10 minutes of Star Wars Luke was just a whiny brat and didn't do much at all until they reached the Death Star.

They ruined Chani, but at least Irulan is still ugly.
