I didn't even know Static Shock was based off of a comic until years after the show had aired. I hope Static is poised to make a comeback soon. I consider him to be part of a definitive trinity of teen superheroes: Static, Spider-Man, and Invincible.
I resented Static Shock growing up being such a fan of the comics and seeing that they toned down the characters and themes to capture a younger audience. Although I am glad the show kept the character in the zeitgeist - I do hope future iteration is based more on the original series than the cartoon. Also thank you for knowing the character is Static, not "Static Shock"
Reginald conspired at McDuffie's funeral. "Classy." He also did not want Dwayne's white wife to be part of what he saw as exclusively as a black brand despite the fact Dwayne wanted kids of all colors to dress up as Static and have his characters be human more than just for a subset of fans.
I mean theirs nothing wrong with wanting a black brand and keeping it black and regardless kids of all colors would still be able to dress up as static because literally no one can stop them free will. @@cloudyheart5148 Reginald hudlin is not a co creator. He had nothing to do with the original milestone and was brought on now seemingly only because his influence in the entertainment industry gives milestone 2.0 more legitimacy since mcduffie is no longer with us. It's not about black or white relationships it's about destroying a canon relationship that is almost 3 decades old. The strongest and most influential in the static mythos. Like mary jane to peter or lois to clark, Frieda was a huge part of vrigils life in the comics, she was his best friend and confidant, the first person he told about his powers, taking that out because it's an interracial relationship is about as racist as it gets and this is coming from a black man in a wonderful relationship with a black woman. Futhermore To disregard relationships in general in his story would only showcase that they have no clue what static is meant to be. Static at it's core is about the teen experience, those awkward years where we're all still trying to figure ourselves and life out and dating goes hand in hand with that. I've read the first new issue and I'm already noticing some iffy things but I'm personally willing to withhold judgement until atleast the 5th issue.
@@NRG-REC this explains in a nutshell exactly why they made cyborg (that everybody loves) a eunuch. I hate cyborg and he should have been made fully human by now and still have a suit for being a hero.
Sadly even with a comic and movie, I remain pessimistic. Static has had comics like when they launched the new 52, and if I remember correctly it was getting moderate to low sales. Static has a core fan base don't get me wrong but I'm not sure how he's going to do in a solo book. As for the movie, I think if the story and plot is good it might be a hit, but I'm still pessimistic
Haven't yet read any of the Static comics, only recently finally read Icon, but I def used to watch the cartoon and loved it. When it crossed over eventually, seeing him side by side with Batman was just mind blowing. I mean I loved BTAS through JLU, and the more they crossed over making the cartoons more like the comics the more I loved it. The fact that you go past the Wiki and do real research and point out things most gloss over or ignore is the main reason I'll keep watching whatever you put up.

I would love to see more about the history of Milestone Comics. I never really had a chance to be interested in it. I didn't even know Static Shock was based off of a comic until years after the show had aired. I hope Static is poised to make a comeback soon. I consider him to be part of a definitive trinity of teen superheroes: Static, Spider-Man, and Invincible.
Perfect timing because I just finished the show! I deeply want a season 5!! 💙😇💙
That show was my childhood I realized the undertones at a young age. You did a great job bringing it to light like the content
Do a history on Icon, Rocket, and on some of Static’s villains like Holocaust and Ebon
That was great, Drake! More please! Your mix of humor and information is superb! A history of Milestone would be greatly appreciated!
Fun fact: Dwayne Mcduffie and Keegan Michael Key were cousins.
Actually, Dwayne was Keegan's long-lost half-brother.
Whelp i guess we can say goodbye to frieda being virgils main love interest like in the comics then....damn.
I mean theirs nothing wrong with wanting a black brand and keeping it black and regardless kids of all colors would still be able to dress up as static because literally no one can stop them free will. Here's another NEW black brand who intends to stay that way black and unapologetically so blacksands entertainment on instagram and youtube.
@@NRG-REC I hope they give him no love interest honestly sick of couples friendships are fine(and it wouldn't go against the creators wishes I'm assuming the guy the original comment mentioned is a co creator). And it wouldn't matter that much in terms of black males and white women relationships because theirs literally thousands of shows and movies with black male and white love Interests it's kinda annoying hope shows and comics start showing more black women and non black men that's super uncommon.
Thank you for the update!!!!!
I'm excited to see statics return. His black representation may have gone over my head but the representation of intercity life definitely didn't.
Btw, if DC/WB can do this right with a live action Static. They will have struck gold with a possible early stage Live action Spider-Man type success
I really like Static, and its a shame that he's not more well known
Yes please do that milestone video that would be great
Representation really does matter.
Yep
Bring on the history of milestone content! Now I gotta go rewatch Static Shock
I agree
Haven't yet read any of the Static comics, only recently finally read Icon, but I def used to watch the cartoon and loved it. When it crossed over eventually, seeing him side by side with Batman was just mind blowing. I mean I loved BTAS through JLU, and the more they crossed over making the cartoons more like the comics the more I loved it. The fact that you go past the Wiki and do real research and point out things most gloss over or ignore is the main reason I'll keep watching whatever you put up.
I've always thought Icon was a cool character
Static shock and black panther where my favorite heros growing up. They showed me that being a nerd is cool and sparked my love of electricity. I'm now an electrical engineer thanks to this show
I wonder if statics coming back has anything to do with Miles Morales popping off
Hell yeah!!! Give us a full run down on Milestone Media please. There’s very little to no information of this company that fans of comics deserve to know about.
It’s great static is coming back, but I’m kinda disappointed they changed his origins. Instead of a gang war, it’s now a Black Lives Matter movement.... it just hits different. :(
Bro i still have my static shock figure from subway, he resides on my shelf next to a Black Templar Redemptor Dreadnought.
DC: make movies abt og black characters ❌ make superman black ✅
Just found this channel and already love it. Nice work bro
I'm happy the universe is coming back but at the same time I don't feel like going through the drama of comic fans when the comics come out from both sides of the political spectrum and race.
Thanks a bunch, Drake and Matty. You guys strike exactly the saturday morning vibe for most.
