    A little tip. Instead of wasting perfectly good drinking water, you can use seawater to cook the lobters in. Its naturally salty, and helps with the flavour of the lobsters.

    • @christopherchuauhang4829
      @christopherchuauhang4829 4 года назад +1

      And risk dehydration. That amount of sodium is not good for the kidneys either.

    • @Hypergangnam
      @Hypergangnam 4 года назад +16

      @@christopherchuauhang4829 Risk dehydration? People put salt in the water anyways. Normally. For flavour. A decent ammount aswell. Seawater has a natural salt content, thats great for cooking shellfish.
      What did you actually think i ment? Drink the seawater?

    • @Uneke
      @Uneke 4 года назад +1

      Christopher Chuauhang risk dehydration?! Lol sodium is an electrolyte and helps you retain water...

    • @aarondominguez3501
      @aarondominguez3501 4 года назад +2

      @@Uneke wow. Instead of it quenching your thirst, it would get you more dehydrated. That's what he meant. Hahahahaha 😂 😂😂 😂

    • @Uneke
      @Uneke 4 года назад +2

      Aaron Dominguez how would boiling sea food in sea water dehydrate you? Nobody said to drink it. Are you under the assumption that the meat would absorb all of the salt and leave distilled water?
      Not really caring what he meant, because he’s wrong

    Out here in the Pacific our lobsters don't have big claws, it's really just the tail. But a tasty trick I learned from a host in Mexico is to fry the lobster in pork lard and garlic, and you eat the whole thing shell and all. It's really delicious and cuts down on waste!
    One thing you should do is cut off some of the broad-leafed seaweed (called "Kombu" in Japanese) and pop one in the bottom of the cookpot while the water comes up to boil. When the water gets to a simmer on the way up, remove the Kombu and discard. It will make your broth and lobsters/clams/etc. really tasty! Some of the other seaweed can be used as a steam bed, and the fine dark green seaweed with thin blades can be dried and pressed into a sheet called "Nori" which, with some rice, wasabi (Japanese horseradish), and a little bit of sesame oil in, and soy sauce for dipping, you can make fantastic lobster rolls with mayonaisse or, best, avocado if you can get some relatively easily. Just do icecream-cone hand-rolls if you're outside or do regular maki rolls if inside. In California where I live I sometimes just snack on seaweed while out surfing.

    • @philipbohi983
      @philipbohi983 4 года назад +1

      Eric Valor - you're right about Pacific spiny lobsters not having claws, but for those who don't know - be sure to get the meat in the legs and antennae, and the body of the bigger ones. We take the legs and antennae and wrap them in a damp paper towel, then put them in the microwave for 45 seconds. The meat "pops out" when it cooks and you get delicious tender meat sticks.
      This also works for large Florida/Bahama spiny bugs, but they don't have as much meat as their Pacific brothers. Still delicious and nothing is wasted.
      Our next surfing trip to K-38 I'm going to ask people in Puerto Nuevo about that cook method you mentioned...sounds good! I'm curious about how that shell gets soft enough to eat.

    • @EricValor
      @EricValor 4 года назад

      @@philipbohi983 It might be a Michoacan thing, I don't know. I just remember my first time just eating the tail and Mama got mad at us for "wasting food". So I started to eat the legs like it was a big Ama Ebi (sushi where to bottom half is cured in a Mirin mixture and the top is served fried with the shell) and Mama smiled and said "yes, good boy!" I ended up eating the whole thing except the Dead Man's Fingers. The next morning my #2 was pink like bubble gum but I wasn't bleeding so I didn't freak out (just a warning to you and others not to freak - it's just pigment from the shell).
      Baja is considered a whole different country, like how indigenous Hawaiians feel about Hawaii in relation to being part of the USA and why pros from Hawaii surf under the Hawaiian instead of US flag. So they might have much different customs at K38 (fantastic spot, though I enjoy roughing it at Quatro Casas - it's more of a survival adventure every trip). Mainlanders consider Baja dangerous wildmen country and the Bajanians like it that way. I know many Americans who think I am nuts for going to Michoacan but I have never had a problem and the water is warm and surf juicy (I got caught in La Liquidor at Rio Nexpa my first time there and was stuck in 8-foot shorepound that was dredging up boulders the size of my head). Finally I just paddled out and up the beach where it was easy to come in. You can find several videos of that place working over the poor saps who get caught in it. I have some very old video (late 90s) of myself there on RUclips.

    Hands across the sea ! Greetings from Ocean City , Maryland U.S.A. I would love to have all that beautiful seaweed ( SEA VEGETABLES ) !!! I harvest Bladderwrack to process and eat . Not very tasty , but it is an exceptional natural source of iodine for my thyroid and many other micro nutrients that the human body needs . I have been using a post hole digger to harvest clams . I just locate the small clam vent hole in the sand ( low tide ) and dig down straight over the vent and it grabs the clam every time . Again , great video . Glad to have stumbled over it .
