Awesome news Heath! There could not have been a better release for you to be featured on. So happy for you and hope that Imprint involves you in another release soon!!!
Captain Marvel and Kirk Alyn’s Superman are both solid early superhero screen manifestations in serial format. When Superman becomes animated to fly into a burning building I find really charming. The iconography of the Crimson Ghost appropriated by the Misfits has become greater and more lucrative than what the original serial ever was. Well done on expanding your commentaries Heath. Great work.
I met kirk alyn around 93 at a convention i was 14 at the time and only knew about george reeves and christopher reeves.i got his autograph and he talked briefly to me about his serial version of superman .then i met jay north(dennis the menace) haha
I have Tales of Adventure 4 and Capricorn One ordered. I haven’t seen any of the serials or movies on the Tales of Adventure set, but really looking forward to diving in! Your commentary will be great to listen to. Capricorn One was the first DVD I purchased:). It’s a guilty pleasure movie from my early years. I remember watching it during the first week when we finally got cable and HBO! I was 12:). Congrats on your commentary! You do a great job on them.
Thanks as always! I pre-ordered the Tales of Adventure set and I'm planning to watch King of the Rocket Men this weekend and listen to your commentary. I enjoyed your interview with Brad Henderson of Terror Vision. I've ordered from them and have always had good results. They put out a nice copy of the Japanese time slippage comedy/fantasy movie "River," which has a unique slipcover. Good Japanese horror stuff coming in October: J-Horror Rising box set from Arrow, Daeie Gothic box set from Radiance, The Demon Pond (Criterion), Village of Doom (Unearthed Classics) and new versions of the Mexican El Vampiro movies from Indicator. Godzilla Minus One and Tomie arrive in November.
My favorite serials are THE DRUMS OF FU MANCHU, DAREDEVILS OF THE RED CIRCLE, and THE SPIDER'S WEB. My Tales of Adventure vol. 4 box is winging its way towards me in the mail. Of the serials in the box that I've seen, THE MYSTERIOUS DR. SATAN is my favorite, then KING OF THE ROCKETMEN. Back in the laserdisc days, Bruce Eder did a commentary for the entire PERILS OF NYOKA serial. It was an amazing feat, as he went into the history of serials, Republic Pictures serials, William Witney and John English, the Lydeckers, etc. THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL had a commentary on all chapters of the serials, but by different people. So it was more a relay race than a marathon.
You will enjoy Man in a Suitcase if you like ITC tv series. Richard Bradford was a method actor. The show was very realistic and hard boiled for its time. McGill isn’t a standard hero. He works for money rather than to be a hero but he has a very strict moral code of his own.
I just recieved my Capricorn One box set and so far have only taken a quick glance to check the video quality. Very dissapointed that it does not include any book or printed materials other than the basic case cover inserts. Take note the the included 2nd disc (extended version) offers only an additional six minutes to the film and does NOT include any subtitle options. Most of all the extended version has not been restored or cleaned up. Instead it looks very low resolution, rough and rather scrappy. I'd say this set is primarily for collectors, others may opt to wait for a less expensive, single disc version of the theatrical cut. That being said I have Imprint's box set of The Prisoner which is an excellent set overall with loads of relevent extras and does come with a very nice, informative printed book/booklet.
I wonder how Imprint have managed to avoid regional coding. I wish other labels were able to do this. It makes we wonder whether labels are forced to do it by studios. Considering how much physical media are in decline I don’t know why anybody thinks it makes sense to make buying discs difficult for people by putting regional coding on- especially as it has been abandoned for 4K.
It’s nice to hear you doing well in the commentary department. As you move along in the business, what happens to your RUclips channel when you have more work than time?
Short answer: the future is uncertain. Longer answer: I never aspired to be a RUclipsr. I was a history education major in college and film and television history is my focus, but I've gone down this physical media detour so far that now many people associate me with holding up new releases rather than my love and passion for cinema. To be blunt, RUclips is a rat race I never intended to sign up for, and it burns creative people out very quickly. For me, audio commentaries, written essays, and even books about film are a more appealing goal than continuing to crank out videos on RUclips three times a week. Then again, I've already established myself here and built a massive library of content, so if I can keep making videos for fun, I will.
Capricorn One is a must for me. Classic conspiracy cinema. Highly recommended. Thanks Heath.
I own all three volumes of Tales of Adventure, and I noticed your comment contribution on the 4th Volume. That is cool. Well done, Heath.
Richard Bradford is excellent in Man in a suitcase. Really good series.
Congrats, Heath. Glad to hear the good word. As usual, these sets look great.
Thanks for showing these off, Heath! Can't wait to hear your commentary as well! 😎
Well done Heath congratulations on the commentary. Flash Gordon or Buck Rodger’s are my favorite serials.
My favorite serial is the Buster Crabbe Flash Gordons, but I have not seen as many titles as you.
Awesome news Heath! There could not have been a better release for you to be featured on. So happy for you and hope that Imprint involves you in another release soon!!!
Thank you! I agree, this is a perfect fit, and I also share your sentiment that I get to be involved in another release for Imprint soon.
Thanks, Heath! I really appreciate it! God bless and stay safe!
Man in a suitcase was so a head of its time. A hero that could be hurt.

The first Superman serial is the subject of one of my Serials At Midnight episodes and I couldn't agree more.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the man on the back of the box of serials is no other then Leonard Nimoy! Greetings from Sweden!

Capricorn One blew me away when I saw it as a kid. I wonder if it would hold up.
Waiting for mine to ship they look great

Telly Savalas was also in the original Cape Fear. I watched it the other day and forgot he was in it.
The original Cape Fear is great, and a much better film than the Scorsese version, IMO.
Was Really excited for that Tales set but it is $144 U.S. not including shipping and taxes. Just was too expensive.
Where's the discount code Heath? 😝 Want that Capricorn One...
Interesting!
Do you really watch all these? If so, that’s amazing.

The Island by Michael bay has a lot of scenes that are similar to Capricorn one.
Don't forget Elliott Gould with Donald Sutherland in "M.A.S.H." in 1970.
I'm surprised one of the many ninny trolls have not scolded you for eating cereal at midnight as it spikes sugar and ruins stage 4 sleep.
Unrelated, but did you see there's a new blu ray of super friends?
Already got it from Amazon on sale for $107 bluray. Everyday Amazon price goes up and down. Also ebay sellers bluray is about $145
I did! Crazy times.

The main reason Imprint (Viaviison) free region code is because they only are permitted to make and sell a small limited number of collective units.
