- In this video which was shot over several months we try to start my 1984 Honda VF500F Interceptor motorcycle. We end up taking off the fuel tank and dump out the old gas, clean the carb. jets and it runs!
It's still a beautiful bike!
Love to hear more of the history of this bike and yourself (stolen and mileage rolled back...LOL). I had the pleasure (and pain) of owning a 84/86 VF500 back In the mid 90s. It had a rough past, and my time with it was short, but it was my 1st true sport bike. As such, the little Interceptor will always hold a special place in my heart.
I have some more work to do on this bike at some point maybe I will include some of the history in that video.
Thanks very much for posting that. I'm chasing a problem with mine cutting out/not starting. The float bowl furthest from the fuel intake doesnt have gas in it. I'll try copying this manoeuvre to find the blockage/problem. 🏍🏍🏍

Were you ever able to get all 4 float bowls off without removing the carburetors from the air plenum? I'm convinced that it's only possible to remove three of them, and I tried for quite some time before giving in and just breaking the entire thing apart for a thorough cleaning. Nice work on getting the 'ole gal running.
I have never had to dismantle them from the plenum. It takes some doing but they all will eventually come off. I have one idle jet plugged already so I need to do it again .Another video on this bike soon. Stay tuned.
@@bryansprojects3570 good deal. Maybe I'll have to try the Chinese finger puzzle of removing the 4th bowl sometime again. Rebuilt a pair of '84 carburetors this winter, but it would be nice to know I can just pull all the bowls without splitting the rack in the future if I'm just checking in on it.

If it is available, try using ethanol-free fuel. It will save you from having to clean the carbs after the bike sits.
I have been using ethanol free fuel in everything that sits anymore.

Are both jets hallow? I have tried and I haven't had luck getting anything through the idler jets. Also, I can't get my fuel pump to run even if I connect it directly to a 12 volt dewalt battery. Any ideas or ways to bypass the pump? When putting the carbs back on the bike, do you insert the rear or front carbs into the boots first?
Both jets are hollow. The holes are very tiny. I have soaked them in carb cleaner and used a hair sized piece of wire to get through them before. Getting the boots on is difficult however you do it. I think it works best putting the rear on first just because there is more leverage to push the fronts on.

@@EazyRed I was given one that sat in an air conditioned /heated garage. Don't know what I will find as it has not been on the road since 1992. But it's all there and complete.
Try maintaining it. It's not magic. It's a real shame.
