@squiminysquoo Of course, the are incidents of violence against preachers and vandalising of churches - particulary in North India. And… there is vehement opposition to what some Hindus view as attempts to proselytize or an Hindu individual or family joining the Christian fold. But… it's definitely not true that Christians are persecuted in India.
@christopherloh936: This hymn is sung by a 300 voice choir, picked from various churches close to the location where it was sung. Greetings in the name of the Lord, to you and your family, from the Christian community in India.
What amazes me is that the person who wrote the words is not the one who who wrote the music! They fit so well together! And then to have a choir like this sing it, oh what a glorious sound!! Thanks again for sharing it!!
St.Thomas, one of the 12 disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, set foot on the Indian Subcontinent in the State of Kerala in South India. Sadly, whole preaching the good news, he was murdered by the locals outside the city of Madras, now called Chennai.ount St Thomas is the spot where he lost his life and was so named in his honor!. Yes, Christianity came to India hundreds of years before it made it to the western countries.
OF THE GLORY OF GOD IN THE STARY HEAVEN 1 THE spacious firmament on high, With all the blue ethereal sky, And spangled heavens, a shining frame, Their great Original proclaim. 2 Th’unwearied sun, from day to day, Doth his Creator’s power display; And publishes to every land The work of an almighty hand. 3 Soon as the evening shades prevail, The moon takes up the wondrous tale, And nightly to the listening earth Repeats the story of her birth: 4 While all the stars that round her burn, And all the planets in their turn, Confirm the tidings as they roll, And spread the truth from pole to pole. 5 What though in solemn silence all Move round this dark terrestrial ball; What though no real voice nor sound Amidst their radiant orbs be found: 6 In reason’s ear they all rejoice, And utter forth a glorious voice, For ever singing as they shine: The hand that made us is divine!

What a well blended and coordinated choir. The choir master wonderfully conducts with such ease and uplifting efforts. God's name is certainly magnified.
The words are a metrical paraphrase of Ps 19:1-8 by Joseph Addison. They were first published in 1712. They were later set to this tune, which was taken from Haydn's Die Schöpfung (The Creation).
The Hand that made us is indeed Divine! ....and so is your singing - a ready made Heavenly Choir! Great to see and recognise so many of the singers who have been members of the choir for more than 10 years now. God bless each one of you and keep up the wonderful , harmonious singing!
John Bryne - Which choir were you in at Chennai . Thanks for the feedback. About 14 years ago when the Lord led us to do the ageless hymns this is one focus that we had to do is the way it was sung origianlly with least compromise ( specially in the 250 voice Mass Choir ) yet present it so that the youngsters and future generation will enjoy .Each album ( about 12-14 hymns in each ) are done with prayerful preparation and planning with many months of practice . The members of the Mass Choir are from 10-12 leading choirs . So glad that it is reaching out and blessing millions across the globe at such a time as this. Traditional old hymns are quite difficult to sing but this church in India sung it so dynamically. Hallelujah!
