I got DW Classic Petite on my birthday 3 years ago, my brother gave me an Alexandre Christie chronograph (an HK brand I believe), now.. the AC still runs good and it's very sentimental to me since 'twas from my fam (also has a history on him getting the watch), but I've sold my DW and got me a Timex Weekender on last christmas. I'm falling in love with watches now. Not just the design but on learning about all of it because I came across your videos and Teddy B's too.. My close friend who happened to own bunch of high end watches is encouraging me to not being intimidated or feel low just because I'm starting off with fashion watches and my current collection is not a high end. I'm getting my vintage seiko crosshair soon as my 3rd watch. I'm a budget collector and I'm proud. Thank you for this video! 💙
You gotta give it to Hugo, he definitely "rex" everything! Great intro looking forward to the rest. Given I'm wearing my Casio A153 retro classic incredibly affordable favourite work watch I'd like to think I'm not a watch snob, but we shall see in 20mins or so! 👍
I had it but gave it as a gift to my best friend.. It suits him better than me wirh my 8" wrists xD.. But i love casio to death.. I started with my edifice 100-L and i stuggle to go to other watches xD because it is that good.. :D.. I got many watches from different price categories.. From casio20€ ca53w to 1000€ junghans ato-chron.. But the watches i love the most is my 65€ edifice and 79€ citizen eco drive(i actually inherited from my granpa) those things just go and go and go.... And look great :) it doesnt matter what watch you wear, what matters is that you love it and its history!
The quickest way to annoy a watch snob is to say “ quartz is obviously the very best movement” Then show them your micky mouse watch. See how their noses turn up and they bring out stakes and bunches if garlic!😂 Personally, I love the tactile nature of watches at all price points but don’t call myself a collector. I have 6 or 7. These days I find it such a difficult thing to chose or justify another and do need to balance the sensibility of being tempted with supporting a family. Would love a Christopher ward chiming watch but even that is beyond means, so I admire them rather than be envious.
Well said TGV! Not all watches are created equal but all watches can be exciting, interesting and beautiful for different reasons, for the right people. Also some love for the Pusher poster. Love those films!
Chris Bloem Congratulations! mine has no alignment issues either and runs -9 sec/day out of the box. The SKX is a watch that grows on your wrist and puts a smile on your face. Cheers from Denmark the Stig
Thank You Sir!!! This video is the best explanation of a watch snob! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 I only have G-Shocks in my collection, but you, Federico talks watches, and a few other channels made me appreciate luxury brands all the way down to the cheapest brands! I'm still looking for my entry level luxury watch. I'm thinking about a seiko.
I want one since I’ve learned about it... but my financial situation is so dire that I need two things to happen first 1 - I need to start playing the lottery 2 - I need to win the lottery ...but I’m very mechanical/automatic and there are many watches I would buy first...
Another fantastic video TGV, sat here with my grail watch on which is a longines hydroconquest. May not sound much to many but i have two young men to bring up and a house to run so it's so good to watch a video like this.
Pretty much spot on! I think i was guilty of being a reverse watch snob....i just figured what's the point as i'll never own a high end one. Strangely though, i know quite a lot about lamborghinis (also never own one), so the luxury watch thing doesnt actually make sense. I am going to learn more in the future! Good video. Keep up the good work.
TGV, I love your videos. I learn so much about the watch industry, etc.. However, this video is a general lesson for society. It could be summed up in the profound words of Bill S. Preston, Esq., “be excellent to each other.” 👍😎👍
I've come up with a novel way to neutralize the negative energy of snobs and the like. I simply imagine Droopy speaking their words. It's instant comedy!
I really loved your video and it made me think of some of the things I do. I will remember to have fun with this love of watches. Lets share in the joy of watches. Thank you once again
Great list. For me, I will admit to find Seagull or Sellita movements more fascinating to learn about than, for example Patek. Mainly because I am a bit afraid that I will become obsessed and do something stupid like buying a Patek. Which for me at this point would be astronomically stupid because it would ruin me financially for a long, long time. I have slightly started to look into Omega and Rolex movements and models, and also a little bit of Pateks and APs, but I need to know I can trust myself before I dive head first into that universe. But, I also think it's really interesting to look deeper into brands like Bulova or Tissot, which has long, rich history, but with a much kinder price tag. And, I can appreciate a 50 year old Certina as much as a Daytona, and I will "judge" them more equally regardless of what logo is stamped on the crown, taking the price and all that into consideration, obviously, but I won't shove away the €400 Certina just because it's a €400 Certina. And in regards to luxury, I like to think of my selection of jackets as a luxury; there's a few mid-range leather jackets (which all fits me perfectly, and are of great quality for the price), then there's a wool-coat I had sown to fit me better at a tailor after I bought it and lost weight, then there's some Armani's, etc, and for the price of all those jackets I could probably get myself one really, really high-end leather jacket (or a Tudor Black Bay Crono). But then I wouldn't have the option to choose, and my whole wardrobe would have to circuit around that one jacket. I'm not a very wealthy man, and I'd rather have some affordable things to chose from, than just be forced to pick one, same goes for watches, whiskey and women. Variety is the spirit of life.
I was wondering if you could possibly make a video on iconic Citizen watches. I feel like no one every speaks of them and you always seem to have good things to say about them. Also I love the points you made in this video.
I just bought my first SKX007J simply because I saw it on your channel and instantly liked it. Who cares about the price? „Horologists“ would then probably also refuse a bottle of wine that costs less than 20 bucks...
TGV, thanks very much for this video. I have thus far avoided the 10 signs and tried to nurture friends who are making their first steps into watches with enthusiasm and, hopefully, good advice... including putting in a plug for your videos! ;-) Keep up the good work!
I am eternally grateful, not only for the plug, but most importantly knowing there are true gents like you in the Gentry! It makes it all worth it, thank you Jeffery, Onwards and upwards. Best regards, TGV
Great book to read, which I'm sure you have, but 'Longitude' had me gripped from start to finish. Very much speaks to the 'Horology' you reference. Great and interesting material in your videos as always Mr T, thought provoking, and agree completely about the definition of a gent. As in The Bards Henry IV, and the example of nobility, at Agincourt, being found in the Archer who defended his injured horse with his life. And I believe that one of the pillars of 'noblesse oblige' is understatement.
One of the best videos that you recorded this year (other ones are not bad but this one is really good). I enjoyed it so much, your energy is inspiring me! Regards T!
I used to own two Amphibias. Another one was Russian army-version Ратник 6э4-1, that I sold today. Those watches really have some strange charm on them. Rugged, robust and accuracy is close to being horrible, but those ones always work, no matter what. At some point I am probably going to buy a Scuba dude and Radio room versions. I'm pretty sure about it, even though I should rather sell than buy more watches.
Mine fell of a 5 story balcony because a drunk friend thought it was funny. The freakin watch survived. Which made me realize that in soviet russia, boctoc doesn't make watches. Watches make boctoc.
Nice vid TGV, loved Hugo's intro! I have always gone with my own quote "Do whatever makes you happy" if I can afford something that I want, I will get it, but if I see something I like, I will get it also even if it is not expensive. Beauty and value are in the eye of the beholder. Keep up the great work!
TGV, you’re my hero man. Such great content. You strive (and seem to succeed greatly) to be an extraordinary human being and you share and inspire that endeavor in others. In a world of reality shows that showcase bad behavior and lack of class, you stand above, diplomatically reminding us to behave as gentlemen. Thank you for the true light you bring to RUclips and the greater community.

I really love your channel, man. You are knowledgeable about watches and just life in general. The channel is fun and visually appealing, with awesome editing. Thanks for the knowledge and rock on !!
This video contains TRUTH. We live in a day when Google watch is outselling the ENTIRE watch brands. Let's keep it civil between watch enthusiasts, it's good for the hobby and the watch community
I like the Cadisen c1030 a watch I will be getting once we are in the clear with this pandemic. The Cadisen c1030 is a copy of a watch I can only dream of owning the Nomos Lambda,I will settle for the copy so I don't care what the snobs think of me.
Don't forget the reverse watch snobs. "I can't see why anyone needs more than one watch". "I just want a watch that tells the time". "I don't get why people buy mechanical watches", or "I just use my phone". Etc...
Very well done, TGV. I think this is the best Hugo Mountbatten intro/episode yet. We really see his personality shine here. And you could tell that a lot of thought and work went into this. Kudos. Double Like.
Watches are something special to me. My paternal grandfather got a gold Bulova Accutron from retirement when he worked for the Railroad. Something my dad used to tell me stories about his childhood and falling asleep to the "hum" of the watch. From then on I was hooked and have loved watches ever since.
I really enjoy the artwork loops on your computer monitors. From Hokusai to Caravaggio. Great backdrop to your always-cogent observations on life, art, and character. Thanks for all your thoughtful, entertaining, and educational videos!
@@CN-wt2bj False. Da Gama, Magellan, and Elcano were far more adventurous. Da Gama: On July 8th, 1497, Vasco da Gama led four ships with 170 men from Lisbon. The distance traveled in the journey around Africa to India and back was greater than around the equator. Ferdinand Magellan: He led the first successful expedition to circumnavigate the Earth. The exact distance he traveled around the world was 14,460 leagues (43,400 miles or 69,800 kilometers), this is a little longer than three years. Juan Sebastian Elcano: He was a Basque sailor who completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth in human history in the Magellan-Elcano expedition. He decided to take command of the expedition after the death of Ferdinand Magellan. (Google is your best friend)
There was no such person as Captain Cook. James Cook never actually held the rank of Captain - he never commanded a ship large enough to warrant that rank. He was a lowly Lieutenant when he came to Australia.

There are two things In this world I can’t stand. Those who look down on those who can’t afford expensive watches or look down upon others for the watches they chose to have. And Apple watches and the people who buy them.
Will Harris Apple watches aren’t affordable. They’re disposable pieces of tech you have to renew every other year otherwise your battery dies in less than a work day
I was going to make a video on my channel on this because I'm on the forums alot and I see it daily. one example is one guy posted up his new rolex. i forgot what it was. anyways people commented and one guy said "ur lucky i cant even get on a list been to 50 AD's" i said, "it sucks rolex doesn't want your money, try Omega" and he said "sorry its rolex or higher for me" and i said "thats a shame" then some other guy commented and he went off on him. i didnt read it or care enough to go through it but i knew it i knew it i knew it that he was like that. too ez
Escapement & Watch walked into an AD for many brands and inside was a watch group that had the word horology in their name. They asked me to join and if I heard about the meetup on the forums. I said no I just came to browse. They asked me to stay but everyone else that came they asked what was on their wrist but you could tell right away not being up close what luxurywatch everyone was wearing. I was wearing my auto Timex. Their whole conversation before I couldn’t stand more than an hour and left was about John Mayer and his Rolex watches that they want and doing ten around flights just to go toADs that called them up saying to come collect a watch as they were next on the list. Pateks, APs, Rolex, moser-_- . They were clearly snobs as most of them were losers, CEOs or getting paid 7 figures and didn’t even own entry or even mid tier brands. Only one or two started collect more than ten years ago so had humble beginnings
Thumbs up!! In my experience I enjoy talking to people about there watches when the realize I'm not going to make negative comments then they share there interests freely, another positive connection made !

@@kiwi_commander I just bought a seiko 5 (love love love it) so I'm gonna have to save for a little bit but I think the 1963 is my next purchase
Love that little watch, bought 4of them. Started my love of Casio 💙🍻
And look great :)
it doesnt matter what watch you wear, what matters is that you love it and its history!
The quickest way to annoy a watch snob is to say “ quartz is obviously the very best movement” Then show them your micky mouse watch. See how their noses turn up and they bring out stakes and bunches if garlic!😂
Personally, I love the tactile nature of watches at all price points but don’t call myself a collector. I have 6 or 7. These days I find it such a difficult thing to chose or justify another and do need to balance the sensibility of being tempted with supporting a family. Would love a Christopher ward chiming watch but even that is beyond means, so I admire them rather than be envious.
'Its gold GOLD and its all mine! have been following this channel for years and finally a decent review....
Well said TGV! Not all watches are created equal but all watches can be exciting, interesting and beautiful for different reasons, for the right people. Also some love for the Pusher poster. Love those films!
Just got my 007 today guys and to my relief the chapter ring was dead center!
Congrats!!!! Welcome to the SKX owners club,
Thank you Chris, enjoy.
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry Its all tnx to you.
Lucky day. Buy a lottery ticket!
1 in a million right there, cherish that watch!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I only have G-Shocks in my collection, but you, Federico talks watches, and a few other channels made me appreciate luxury brands all the way down to the cheapest brands! I'm still looking for my entry level luxury watch. I'm thinking about a seiko.
Longines 😍
I love the Accutron’s noise! Man is it neat!
Totally, so glad you love it too,
It's a wonderful reminder of the legacy every time you hear it.
Thank you Christopher,
Best regards,
TGV
I need that watch but...😍$$$😐
I want one since I’ve learned about it... but my financial situation is so dire that I need two things to happen first
1 - I need to start playing the lottery
2 - I need to win the lottery
...but I’m very mechanical/automatic and there are many watches I would buy first...
I’m sure I’ll never be able to afford a Lange but they are joy to look at, they are beautiful inside and out!
TGV, I love your videos. I learn so much about the watch industry, etc.. However, this video is a general lesson for society. It could be summed up in the profound words of Bill S. Preston, Esq., “be excellent to each other.” 👍😎👍
Hmm... Hugo has a drinking problem. That explains a lot.
...that's what i thought...he may have a higher tolerance given his physical make-up, but mixing drinks like that isn't good for anyone...
Wonderful ! "A gentleman puts more back into the world than what he takes out" .
I couldn't care less what brand is on the dial of my watch. If I like how it looks and I can afford it, I'll wear it!
I was wondering if you could possibly make a video on iconic Citizen watches. I feel like no one every speaks of them and you always seem to have good things to say about them. Also I love the points you made in this video.
Respect TGV,big respect! 👏👏 I am so happy you stand for people who can not afford luxury watches, but looove watches! Thank you,you are true gent!
I just bought my first SKX007J simply because I saw it on your channel and instantly liked it. Who cares about the price? „Horologists“ would then probably also refuse a bottle of wine that costs less than 20 bucks...
...my two 007's, a J and K, are two of my favourite watches !
"A routine of positivity" love it!
It makes it all worth it, thank you Jeffery,
Onwards and upwards.
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you Trusty Tristan an excellent and thought provoking video...I'll try to put them into practice... God Bless
Regards T!
You are not a true watch enthusiast until you own a Scuba Dude. I Just joined the the Boctoc revolution.
I actually glean more from this channel than anything else from the internet. I don’t even pay attention to snobbery in general. Never understood it. Keep up the good work TGV. Btw, loved the intro!!! HUGOOOOooo!!!
With Hugo wrecking the house, I decided to wear a G-Shock.
Soooo, I not the only one that chooses a different favorite watch to view each TGV video😐 -😁🍻
YES! Just found this jewel of a video. My collection ranges from Casio to Omega, and my most beloved is my Seiko PADI Turtle on a bright red rubber strap. Incidentally, it also keeps as good if not better time than most of my chronometers:)
I always use "it is not my cup of tea" when someone introduce me a watch that doesn't catch my eye
Hugo, that absolute mad lad. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
That intro is an absolute Masterpiece!
This is not a watch snob guide it's a life lesson. Thank you TGV as always the true gentleman.
I like the Cadisen c1030 a watch I will be getting once we are in the clear with this pandemic. The Cadisen c1030 is a copy of a watch I can only dream of owning the Nomos Lambda,I will settle for the copy so I don't care what the snobs think of me.
chipi1972 I’m looking at a cadisen too
Don't forget the reverse watch snobs. "I can't see why anyone needs more than one watch". "I just want a watch that tells the time". "I don't get why people buy mechanical watches", or "I just use my phone". Etc...
The unkindest cut - being left the Apple Watch in exchange! Stay safe, Hugo (and TGV)
Could not agree more! I’m the same with cars I love a v12 Ferrari’s but if you gave me a manual Miata I’d still be happy to drive it!
Very well done, TGV. I think this is the best Hugo Mountbatten intro/episode yet. We really see his personality shine here. And you could tell that a lot of thought and work went into this. Kudos. Double Like.
Thank you Kenneth!
I very much appreciate you saying that, stay well my friend.
Onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
Watches are something special to me. My paternal grandfather got a gold Bulova Accutron from retirement when he worked for the Railroad. Something my dad used to tell me stories about his childhood and falling asleep to the "hum" of the watch. From then on I was hooked and have loved watches ever since.
Damn just in time. Number three always makes me laugh. My friends and family ask why do I like watches, well I just like to know what the time is.
I really enjoy the artwork loops on your computer monitors. From Hokusai to Caravaggio. Great backdrop to your always-cogent observations on life, art, and character. Thanks for all your thoughtful, entertaining, and educational videos!
i just love the way you present yourself. respect!
Feels nice when you open up RUclips and see a new Urban Gentry video just pop up. Already know it would be good, much love from Romania!
We need to get Hugo a cage, he's turning into Jason Bourne. We need a cage and a lock in the liquor cabinet.
Watched this while proudly wearing my $19 Casio MRW-200H. Always a fan TGV. Cheers sir!
Who is captain cook? Did you mean Captain Hook? He got killed by a gatorclock.
Cook was the greatest navigator in the history of the world you imbecile.

@@CN-wt2bj False. Da Gama, Magellan, and Elcano were far more adventurous.
Da Gama:
On July 8th, 1497, Vasco da Gama led four ships
with 170 men from Lisbon. The distance traveled in the journey around
Africa to India and back was greater than around the equator.
Ferdinand Magellan:
He led the first successful expedition to circumnavigate the Earth. The
exact distance he traveled around the world was 14,460 leagues (43,400
miles or 69,800 kilometers), this is a little longer than three years.
Juan Sebastian Elcano:
He was a Basque sailor who completed the first circumnavigation of the
Earth in human history in the Magellan-Elcano expedition. He decided to
take command of the expedition after the death of Ferdinand Magellan.

There was no such person as Captain Cook. James Cook never actually held the rank of Captain - he never commanded a ship large enough to warrant that rank. He was a lowly Lieutenant when he came to Australia.
@@shanewright2772 James Cook was a captain in the royal navy, according to a quick google search.
Excellent vid TGV 🍻 Always enjoy your material, and as an Accutron enthusiast and collector it was a treat to hear you mention them.

Great video. Watch snobs were the main reason I left the UGWC. Some real pieces of work there. This channel, however, is always upbeat and friendly, so I've been a regular subscriber for years. Keep up the excellent work, TGV. oh - and tell your Dinosaur to get a job!

Only $20 watch?! If it doesn't hurt it is not worthy! (AL)!!
I absolutely loved the video and I think you are a gentleman!
Came here to listen to TGV talking about watch snobs. Ended up getting a life lesson ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Completed my little Seiko Land, Air and Sea collection yesterday with the addition of the fantastic “Flightmaster”. Your past videos on the “Flighty” pointed me in the right direction at which one to choose, thank you.
I die a little inside when I see someone wearing a watch branded by a clothing manufacturer 'Armani'.. 'Next'.. Ect, ect.
Someone asked if my vintage TAG Heuer was an Armani...my returned comment run along the lines of taking my arm off with a bread knife
Luckily the number of times I was asked if it was a Rolex outweighs that dozen times over
Why? People can wear what they like.
I needed this reminder to stay positive, thank you.
There are two things In this world I can’t stand. Those who look down on those who can’t afford expensive watches or look down upon others for the watches they chose to have.
And Apple watches and the people who buy them.
See yr a snob then😁🍻
@@surfside75 woosh
Don't worry, I got the joke.
Lol
Will Harris Apple watches aren’t affordable. They’re disposable pieces of tech you have to renew every other year otherwise your battery dies in less than a work day
Hugo is one of the greatest characters in recent memory. A win for pop culture! Love the content and creativity TGV keep it up!!!
Awkward moment when my mom walks in on me watching Hugo chug down a bottle
What an intro as always killing it
I was going to make a video on my channel on this because I'm on the forums alot and I see it daily. one example is one guy posted up his new rolex. i forgot what it was. anyways people commented and one guy said "ur lucky i cant even get on a list been to 50 AD's"
i said, "it sucks rolex doesn't want your money, try Omega" and he said "sorry its rolex or higher for me" and i said "thats a shame" then some other guy commented and he went off on him. i didnt read it or care enough to go through it but i knew it i knew it i knew it that he was like that.
I didn’t mean to type “losers” it autocorrected from probably a typo that was supposed to say “lawyers”
KA M lol. Then just edit the post 🤣🤣 btw, losers makes sense too but not too gentlemanly I suppose
Thumbs up!! In my experience I enjoy talking to people about there watches when the realize I'm not going to make negative comments then they share there interests freely, another positive connection made !
Hugo T-shirt’s?!
Robo Advisor I would buy one for sure.
Yes Hugo wearing a monocle and saying: "How fighfully ghastly"
Instant buy from me!
Give it up to hugo.....LOVE THIS CHANNEL....I own a few watches nothing over 900 dollars.....I just started wearing my watches when i was intruduced to this channel ......WATCHES ARE MADE TO BE WORN..JUST LIKE CARS WERE MADE TO BE DRIVEN....Hugo your the man👍
I thought this guy would talk about about watches and horology and stuff, but he only talked about wisdom and philosophy... Bloody snobs!
I just bought my first expensive watch. Some would consider it budget. Some wouldn’t even consider it because of the price. But I love my Hamilton for what it is. It’s shown me the beginning of how beautiful watches can be
Will Harris thank you! I’m hoping so!
Not going to lie, you sounded a bit snobbish when talking about horology 😆
What terrific insights and philosophy. So refreshing after watching the bog monster of Australia. I think I’m in love. BTW love the art slide shows on the computer screens.
“ watch snobs” AKA 90% of Rolex owners. I won a Submariner and a Date just, however i rather wear my Snowflake, Seamaster or Navitimer because they’re better watches in my eyes. I wear my watches to impress myself not others!
My god that phrase is so damn cringy. "Impress myself not others" LMFAOOO
Wonderful reflections applicable to so many areas of life. Thank you for sharing and giving pause for thought, much appreciated.
100% agree
You don’t pronounce “noblesse oblige” like that dear boy.
Who cares? I’m sure you mispronounce some words that aren’t from your native language.
Very well said. Interesting video with great points made 👍
