    I got the LCI version 220i and despite it's flaws it's a great car - i can see that even more as trying the find a car to replace it (due to it's flaws) is proving very very difficult as it's great all-round package in such a small vehicle and very under-rated.
    Flaws: Large A-pillar view restrictions; A/C controls situated low in the dash; SE/Lux seats lacking body support; brakes have a large "dead zone" before they feel like they're working; SE & Adaptive [in comfort mode] exhibits too much body sway and underdampened after 30K miles (like most BMW suspensions...) - adaptive in Sport mode is too harsh and u can't select it to be stiff in Comfort mode but u can have it soft in Sport; "Sport" steering wheel for SE/Luxury/Sport models is thin and hard but at least leather; run-flat tyres on larger wheel sizes [comfort].
    Positives: 220i model is quick and the DCT sports gearbox is punchy making the car feel quick & sporty(ish) particularly with it's relative light kerb-weight ; steering precise (although softer suspensions make the body-height sap this a tad); fuel economy actually isn't bad; good boot space for a car that's the size of a hatchback - it's not really a mini-van but more of a 'Golf-Plus' type car, the bigger 2er Gran Tourer is the "Sportsvan" and you can option picnic trays in that one; even more boot space if u have the sliding rear-bench; small exterior size makes it hand around town; electric tailgate; it looks okay; easy to read & use info-tainment system; heated seats; despite lack of upper-body support the SE cloth seats are very comfortable and the seat heating works better with these than the leather ones, IMO; LED headlights are bright with decent footprint (better than the 3-series of the day!); Standard 6-speaker sound system is actually good and gives better bass response than i would've guessed!; AM/FM/DAB radio works fine and no issues with bluetooth phone pairing and USB music library; Voice input for sat nav worked first-time; Park Assist can parallel park the car itself; loads of other options available as is the BMW way but useful ones like heated steering wheel, larger 60L fuel tank, folding mirrors, lumbar support, etc - too many to list [yes u pay more...]; but it feels well but together and premium. I like the twin exhaust pipes.
    Personally if i were to spec it again i'd have the M-Sport 220i for the M-Sport suspension, sports seats, M-Sport steering wheel and Estoril Blue metallic paint.
    But more people might like the X1 as it's basically the same car with more boot space, A/C controls in the right place, less a-pillar blockage - but it's a little bigger & heavier. Or the X2 coz it's more sporty. Don't worry about the newer 1-Series as it's too small and looks dumpy :-D

    +W65B61S Their claims are not false. It's the official fuel efficiency test that's out of date, because it does not take into account contemporary traffic conditions. Car manufacturers have to meet emission standards set by the regulators, so they do everything they can to make the car pass the fuel economy/emissions test. Under certain conditions the car will probably deliver promised fuel economy, but it rarely has anything to do with real-life driving situations.

    4 years later question: probably this model is at the end of it’s life, but still: would you still buy a new 2 series Active Tourer decently speced, or a new fully equiped 2019 Suzuki Vitara? Both automatics.
    As of because of now they have the same price, with a massive 13k euro discount from BMW for the 2 series :)

    • @SosetaFurioasaJr
      @SosetaFurioasaJr 3 года назад +7

      I believe whoever buys a 2 series active tourer at full price is definitely not interested in a brand like Suzuki. However, if you compare a 2015 50k mileage 225i or 220i with a 2018-2019 Vitara I am inclined to get the BMW due to the premium quality in materials and bigger engine with the same or even better consumption. Suzuki has an advantage with the allgrip but if you don't frequent country roads then it is rather useles...

    Do rear seats recline? How is the sound insulation going 80 km/h, 110 km/h? I understood you indicating bmw advantages like advanced steering feel, better cornering (less rolling) and premium feel in the cabin. How would you compare Golf sportsvan vs 2 series active tourer in these categories: 1. Ride comfortable (less road surface feeling) in other words softer ride (having in mind same tire height) 2. Road and wind noise doing 80 / 110 / 130 km/h in the cabin, water splashing under the tire - also showing the car sound insulation quality.
    Aside of this review. . . I am one of the fans of your channel, and want to point out that most reviews on youtube miss the information I asked - which would be good mentioning as you usually have already done reviews on different models competing in the same class. I am sure you can measure road noise level with simple equipment, and ride quality (this is more difficult) - well you can use one of the cameras without shock absorbers in different reviews and so we can see how it is shaking on different roads and different speed or simply give some mark from 1 to 5 . . .
    Another idea would be if you would take some footage of onboard computer readings doing lets say 90 and 130 speed showing us the actual consumption - which would be very objective talking about fuel consumption. Or taking to another level - during the review of lets say BMW 2 series AT you could indicate parallel let say Golf SV same speed consumption readings doing same speed. I understand you should have similar weather conditions and use almost same route for comparison details. I think this information is left out in reviews, which is easy to get. Sometimes too much time is spent showing storage and rear seat space (also important) but I think you could take it to the next level. If I am watching youtube reviews looking for help choosing my next car - these points are very important. I know there are special comparison reviews, but there little of them. Taking 4-5 criterion and crossing them with competition models would be very informative.
    Good luck with your future reviews.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 9 лет назад +3

      Do rear seats recline? ---- No.
      How is the sound insulation going 80 km/h, 110 km/h? ---- Poor, especially for a premium segment car.
      How would you compare Golf sportsvan vs 2 series active tourer in these categories: 1. Ride comfortable (less road surface feeling) in other words softer ride (having in mind same tire height) ---- SV feels a bit more vague in general.
      2. Road and wind noise doing 80 / 110 / 130 km/h in the cabin, water splashing under the tire - also showing the car sound insulation quality. ---- I don't have data do tell you exactly.
      I am sure you can measure road noise level with simple equipment... ---- Yes, I should have a proper webpage with all data in a table for comparison, but I'm doing this all by myself, and the week has only 7 days ;)
      ride quality (this is more difficult) - well you can use one of the cameras without shock absorbers in different reviews and so we can see how it is shaking on different roads and different speed or simply give some mark from 1 to 5 . . . ---- Not very scientific.
      Another idea would be if you would take some footage of onboard computer readings doing lets say 90 and 130 speed showing us the actual consumption - which would be very objective talking about fuel consumption. ---- To do this properly I should have a test runway, flat, do a couple of runs in every direction, compensate for wind, etc. This is something that requires a great deal of measurements. This is how it's done properly, and it requires a lot of people and a lot of gear. ruclips.net/video/5J1ICrK36RI/видео.html
      Or taking to another level (....) Taking 4-5 criterion and crossing them with competition models would be very informative. ---- Like I said above, it's not very scientific. It would be instantly criticised (and rightly so). The best I can do is drive the cars along similar routes in a similar manner. When I talk about real life mixed fuel economy results, they are based on my experience. In 80 percent of the cases I do similar milage on similar routes, and this is the closest to relatively consistent results I can get.
      Thanks for this comment. I realise different people want different things from car reviews. In comments under one of the recent reviews I was criticised for not focusing enough on how practical is the interior of a car ;)
      There is only so much information I can put into a review and keep the viewers interested. I'd love to do proper telemetry, but there's only so much I can do on my own.

    The main difference between an Android and iPhone when it comes to BMW is the fact that wireless charging is possible only for Android for now. I thought that this is what you want to specify between the 2 brands... The relevancy of an iPhone being a Premium brand is slightly less these days since iPhone makes less performant phones than the flagship (let's say iPhone 7 Plus) and the spread is also bigger over different screen sizes and models (i.e. iPhone 5C,5S).

    • @MarekDrives

      So it's not a problem with my reviews, but a problem with press fleet in Poland :)
      And yes, I've spoken to BMW and car companies on numerous occasions about it, but they say "we want to showcase the best we have, because if media don't talk about options you can have on our cars, nobody is going to know about them, and buy them".
      If you watch my recent BMW M3 review, I even address this issue in the opening line.

    Your comparison between the Android phone and an iPhone doesn't really work. They're both top of the line phones, and Android allows you to do more, so if anything the Android phone would be the BMW. iPhones may feel more premium in the hand because they use more metal, but that's also what makes them bendable and far less durable than the competition.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 9 лет назад +1

      It's as a good a metaphor as I could come up with. VW costs a lot less, and is more practical, so I guess it's more or less, what you said ;)

    • @R.E-O
      @R.E-O 9 лет назад

      Marek Drives You still don't get WHY your metaphor is completely wrong. If the iPhone is a BMW (or Mercedes), Android would be the VW Group, which includes not only the cheaper VW (and even cheaper Seat or Škoda), but also Audi, which is in the same league as BMW and Mercedes, and even more expensive, luxurious and/or exotic brands like Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche.
      Next time just stick to your field of knowledge, which apparently is automobiles.

I could go on, but I think it's clear you're just an iOS fanboy, and everyone knows iOS is for the tech-illiterate. ;-)

    • @DarcersTech
      @DarcersTech 9 лет назад +1

      Kev50027 I do not think so, the comparison was great. iPhone is more premium and gives you a perfect user experience out of the box.

    • @Kev50027
      @Kev50027 9 лет назад

      ***** I have to disagree. First of all, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is undoubtedly more premium than the iPhone 6, and your comment about a perfect experience out of the box doesn't mean anything. You can get a "perfect" experience out of the box from an Android phone too.. in fact, for many years Android was a better experience out of the box because you never needed to connect it to a computer to activate it.
      Apple fixed that issue and it's better than it was, but iOS is still really just Palm OS from the 90's with some lipstick on.
      No real widgets and very little customization means that iOS is based on a menu of apps, while Android allows you to do whatever you want with it. Of course if you wanted to, you could just leave it the way it is out of the box and be fine, but the added ability to change things around is what makes Android stand out.

    When you are reviewing a car, show the car NOT YOUR FACE 80% OF THE TIME, its the same mistake all reviewer made in RUclips!

      Based on the script I can tell you my face is visible no more, than 50 percent of the time in this video. Agreed, it is till too much, and in more recent episodes it's down to about 40 percent.
