  • How to install rear brakes on 2020 and 2021 BMW M340i G20. This is how to do the rear brakes on g20 BMW. The electronic rear emergency brake adds some confusion. Even with a different style rear e brake you still don't have to spend a fortune to do the brakes. If you want to save about $800 per axle and not go to the dealer then follow this video. I spent an afternoon or about 3.5 hours with filming to do the front and rear pads. My cost was $147 usd with all parts. It's EASY and you can do it. No special tools and no scan tool needed. If you know how to reset the oil change reminder than resetting the brake change reminder is the same!! Just cycle through the menu. If not ask me and I'll help you. Or watch my BMW oil change video and at the end you can see how to reset reminder inside the car.
    I used Powerstop Z23 pads and Powerstop brake sensor front and rear. Parts were ordered from Rock Auto. Part Numbers: Front pads Z261867 Rear pads Z232220 Front Sensor SW0498 Rear Sensor SW0496 If you have Questions let me know! I do my best to actually help.

    JUST START THE CAR, PUMP UNTIL ITS HARD ,THEN APPLY HAND BRAKE AND RELEASE COUPLE OF TIME.

      It’s not required.
      However it’s best practice to use a scan tool or ISTA to service the rear brakes, thus avoiding the need to remove the EMF actuator. This will retract and then later reset the EMF actuator.
      The piston can also be wound back by rotating it with a tool, again avoiding the need to remove the actuator.

I road course race car and go through lots of rotors when they crack from heat, to me these street driven rotors are in amazing shape. And yea I’d say my rotors are still in great shape, running your finger across them there smooth and should be fine for a pad swap. The current pads still have a little bit of material left so it’s not like it’s gone metal to metal.
      I’m going for brembo pads in the front and the powerstop ones for the rear. I also don’t like the initial grabyness of the stock pads, it’s annoying sometimes getting the car to smooth stop. $220 total on rock auto for the wear sensors and all pads have placed the order!

It worked perfectly but there maybe a better way and following service manual is recommended. If you search 2020 bmw m340i service manual there is Google docs available of the full service manual for free on one of the forums. Pretty awesome manual. Literally has everything. I recently replaced an exterior door handle base assembly using it. Those manuals are pretty expensive.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  2 года назад +1

      They're not as grabby as the oem pads but I actually did a track day and 3 auto x events on them and they never faded. I got them way way past their operating temp range and although smoking a bit never fully faded. Brake dust is half if not 75 percent reduced. I eventually bought gloc race pads for front. Now I switch when I go to the track and back to powerstop any street driving. Good pads just don't have the instant bite of oem or race pads. Oem brake system is strong so even a less aggressive pad will work great.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  2 года назад +1

      Odd reason for most but sometimes I auto x this car and it needs more rear brake bite. The z23 has more bite when cold. For any type of racing besides auto cross this wouldn't work. But since pads don't get hot enough during a autox event it works pretty good. Doesn't make much of a difference though. Z26 holds more heat in theory therefore requires a little more heat to achieve best bite. If I didn't auto x race it then I'd run z23 front and rear. Better street pad.

    Is it a noticeable difference in driving with these pads. I have a 2020 rwd model with about 58,000 miles. I’m torn between getting these or the stock ones from fcp euro for about 290. I have the stock brake pads on the rear but am thinking of getting the power stop for my front. I daily the car and am planning on going stage 2 tune.

    • @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast
      @ClaytonYatescarenthusiast  Год назад +1

      A lot less dust. They hold up plenty good. I actually tracked it around 2 heavy braking race tracks at full pace when it was making 500 wheel on e40 on these pads. They faded but held up way better than I'd expect. And I'm a time attack driver so not like i was easy on it. For the street and some auto x these are great pads. They don't have the aggressive bite the factory pads have when newer but that's a feel thing only and I don't like the grabbyness of the stock pads and neither did my wife for street driving. Honestly I'd rather these pads over factory. All the braking ability is still there just more linear. The brake dust is a huge bonus and bmw pads are extremely over priced for what you get and old school tech with high levels of brake dust. Hope that helps.
