    you have significantly less subscribers than many other people that have made reviews for these lenses.., yet your review is 10x more thorough than most of the other reviews.. i just wish I could have the 40mm in the size of the Laowa Nanomorph... ughhh dreams..
    and for it to be S35 intended with a PL mount.. would be literally perfect.. oh well.., i'll make it work anyway!

    For the lens diopter did you use a 77mm with an adapter to fit the Vazen? I’m kinda confused on which one to buy.

    • @jamesstatham
      @jamesstatham  3 года назад

      Yep... The 28mm takes 77mm native, the 65mm takes 77mm filters fine with an adapter. The 40mm however, will vignette if you try to use any 77mm filter. Hope that helps, J

      The next video Vazen Vs Sirui out this week. Shortly followed by How to get Work as a DOP. Lots more to follow. Cheers for the sub 👍🏼
      I know, but one video in, hopefully after a few vids, RUclips algorithms will push the content and thus those subs will grow.

    28mm shows some coma below T2.8 that looks like a triangular bokeh on far away lights. This could be a deal breaker for some.

    • @jamesstatham
      @jamesstatham  3 года назад +1

      Hi, I'll be releasing a full Sirui Vs Vazen set comparison this week. Maybe don't splash out just yet... the video will answer ANY questions you have, but be warned in order to do so, it's about half an hour long. It all boils down to what you'll be shooting. Hit subscribe, ring that bell and I'll see you to the right decisions for you. No question too noob, we were all noobs once... This channel is for those people who want to know what the genuine professionals think. There are too many pretenders out there, so I thought it would be a worthwhile channel to start. Hopefully it will help a lot of people.

    I was briefly planning on upgrading my ageing and beaten up Toyota Corolla but I’d far prefer a set of Vazen anamorphics and your excellent video vindicates accusations of extravagance. And actually buying these keeps me from ‘upgrading’ to full frame, so it’s in fact a saving. Economics is a science of choices. Talking of choices, as an anamorphic newby, which one would you suggest I dip my toe in the water with?

    • @jamesstatham
      @jamesstatham  4 года назад +1

      Hi Doug, It's a tough choice that largely depends on the work you're doing. Deciding on one focus length is a choice you're going to have to decide upon without influence of which lens is better... but I'll do my best to make the decision easier for you. Arguably the best lens for a solo shooter is the 28mm, its smaller so easier to use as a solo shooter, most of your lens accessories that you likely already have (filters, ff, matt box etc) are more likely to fit (unless you already have equip designed for cine lenses). with the 28mm you could (although I wouldn't recommend it) get away without lens support. You can get away with it on some smaller gambles, smaller sliders etc. BUT, like any lenses, the wider the focal range the deeper your depth of field, so without the use of diopters etc, its challenging to get large bolka... but the same goes for ANY lenses.So Id say the 28mm is the most versatile, but its horses for courses and knowing nothing about what type of stuff you shoot, its difficult/impossible to say. To be honest I could give a good argument for any of them to be your first purchase but then this is already turning into an extremely long response. I would say, if you're only going to own two lenses, then you want the 28mm and 65mm; because the 40mm isn't a world away from ether. However, on the same note, the 40mm (ergonomics aside) is the most versatile/standard focal range. I hope this helps in some way and hasn't made the decision harder! J

    • @the_black_douglas9041
      @the_black_douglas9041 4 года назад

      @@jamesstatham haha! Yes the decision is now harder because your excellent answer gave me some very relevant things to consider! I am a solo shooter/soundie/lighter/director/producer/caterer so the 28mm sounds like a good start. And I really love the warm flares on the 28 too! Thank you very much my friend 🙏🏻😌

      @@the_black_douglas9041 I don’t yet know if there is anything in this but someone eluded that there are blue and orange flare options for the 28mm... I don’t know if there is any truth in that, but worth the question when purchasing.

  • @onefingerproduction3180

    These are the poorest construction i've ever seen in lenses. Iris guidance ring is actually threaded and using a thin screw to control the blades, no isolation but contrary on the 40mm M43 those whole comunicate directly with the optical elements in the lens, no o-rings, manufacturer (if we can call it like this) says you can not use focus motors on their lenses, also not calibrated from the factory, asymmetrical vignette, loose screws everywhere. How can you say these are well built?
