I used Nahida to read Kaveh’s mind in the event (Parade of Providence) around the scene where they’re having a dinner Kaveh paid for, and Kaveh was thinking of packing food up to bring home. Later, we see Alhaitham say ‘I’m sure he’ll bring some back home anyways’ when talking about how he missed the collective meal. Alhaitham was right.

Also, there is another very interesting fact about them. The first mission we meet Kaveh in Alhaitham's quest, is titled Pride, and Prejudice. Tis is also the title of a very famous romance novel, about the romance of a very passionate, idealistic, emotional woman (Elizabeth), and Darcy, a very cold, rational, socially awkward man.
Also, Elizabeth's family is in huge debt.
According to Hoyo, Kaveh is supposed to be Elizabeth's narrative parralel, and Alhaitham is Mr Darcy's.. XD

At the end Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy do get together, but in order to do so they need to reevaluate their opinions about each other and their ideals in general: they need to swallow their their pride and overcome their prejudices, hence the name of the book.
It’s definitely a very fitting reference considering how these two act towards each other: both so stuck in their ideals and view of the world, but simultaneously fascinated by each other in a way… and seemingly unable to distance themselves from the other despite their differences.

Since Al Haitham and Kaveh have many mirror motifs in their relationship and even in Kaveh's trailer, I thought it would be neat to mention that iirc in Persian wedding customs, the mirror is a key element of the wedding. ABOUT #2 : If you talk to one of the merchants at the Grand Bazaar, you learn that Alhaitham bought the wine as an apology gift to *someone* which explains why he's not upset when Kaveh steals the wine! It was supposed to be for him anyway (or for the both of them to drink together at least).

More fun facts (like, a lot. Holy shit Hoyo. 30 fun facts, btw):
1: When you give Alhaitham soup in the teapot, he'll say "Let's not eat here. Mind if I... take it home?" which implies he'll bring it to Kaveh, who has that as his favorite dish.
2: Alhaitham was criticizing Kaveh's signature dish before it was even released into the game. That's because Kaveh's signature dish has a very intricately designed presentation, and Alhaitham talks in his voiceline about how we shouldn't "overcomplicate the purpose of food."
3: Both of them have a voiceline about wanting to go home, when you put them in your teapot.
4: Their color schemes are close oposites of each other. Silver-Green-Black and Gold-Red-White.
5: Both of them seem to hold their debates in high steem. In Alhaitham's namecard description, it says that "debates and dialetics" are very important and what researches should abide by, while Kaveh talks in the Interdarshan Championship event about how he considers discussions about differing ideologies to be "sacred among scholars." Aside from that, in Kaveh's Old Sketchbook it says that it's through opposing ideologies that new philosophies can be born, while in Alhaitham's Character Story 4, it's widely described how their mirroring perspectives are important for him to expand his own worldviews.
6: In the original chinese script, instead of "Kaveh's a familiar face, similarly lacking in familial relationships", it says that "Kaveh is someone that knows him inside and out" which. I know what you are Alhaitham.
7: In the Interdarshan Championship event, it's said that when Alhaitham leaves things lying about, that means he doesn't mind to have Kaveh look through them. Aside from that, Alhaitham and Kaveh both share knowledge about an ancient language from King Deshret's time, from their old research project. Alhaitham's notes in the event were written in this script.
8: Alhaitham apparently doesn't mind Kaveh "taking liberties", and takes them himself when it comes to Kaveh's beer. This heavily implies that in Alhaitham's demo, when he says "Boss, this is good wine. I'll have the same, please." He had drank from Kaveh's glass.
9: Alhaitham lets Kaveh drag him places, without even knowing the reason why, as implied in his character demo, "Surely you didn't drag me out just to play cards?"
10: Despite of their disagreements, they hold each other's intellect in high regard. Alhaitham describes Kaveh as a "genius" of equal callibre to his, in his Character Story 4, while Kaveh calls Alhaitham the same in his voiceline about him.
11: Their introductions during the drip marketing were made by each other. In chinese, their short ones apparently match, and can be read as a poem.
12: Still in the drip marketing, their splash arts seem to have beem made taking inspiration from Plato and Aristotle's poses in Raphael's School of Athens. Like Plato in the painting, Kaveh's hand is pointing up, to the world of his ideals, while Alhaitham's hand hovers over the ground like Aristotle's, representing his interest in the things happening in the real world.
13: Both have bird references in their characters and constellations. Kaveh with the bird of paradise, Alhaitham with the hawk.
14: The mirror motifs are everywhere. Everywhere. In Kaveh's trailer, there's a division when Alhaitham and Kaveh appear, where Kaveh's side of the screen is set in a lighter tone, representing the differences between them. In Character Story 4 from Alhaitham and Kaveh's Character Story 5, the mirror motifs are mentioned. Kaveh's constellation is named "Empyrean Reflection". Alhaitham's kit revolves around mirrors.
15: Kaveh's name has a persian origin. In persian culture, mirrors are traditionally used on marriages, to represent equality, solidarity, truth, purity. The bride and groom see each other on the reflection in the mirror first.
16: in Kaveh's demo, Kaveh's turned away from all the characters that appear. Except from Alhaitham, who he's going in the same direction of.
17: They both had contributions to the textile industry. Ironically enough, Alhaitham's involved him finding out (on accident, I believe?) a new pattern that serves as aesthetic inspiration to others, while Kaveh's (I think on accident, not sure) involved him figuring out a new way to produce fabrics that was more acessible and pratical.
18: Kaveh's rug is in the Haravatat stand in the Interdarshan Championship event, and also on his and Alhaitham's house.
19: Alhaitham's story quest name, when Kaveh appeared, was "Pride and Prejudice" which referes to Jane Austen's famous novel. The novel talks about the romance between an idealistic, passionate woman from a family in debt, and a rational, socially awkward man. A big part of the romance is that Elizabeth cannot accept the meaning of the things Mr. Darcy says because of her pride, and prejudice towards him. Which, tracks with their general story- Alhaitham laying out harsh truths without phrasing it in the best ways, out of concern, and Kaveh not recognizing the care underlying many of his actions.
20: In Alhaitham's story quest, Kaveh tells Alhaitham to clean his bookshelves. If you read his mind with Nahida's skill, by the end of the quest, he's thinking about how dusty they look, and how he should clean them. Meanwhile, Kaveh's extremely concerned people will find out he lives there.
21: The colors of their darshans are opossites, as well. Haravatat blacks and Kshahrewar whites. The darshan with the least members, and the one with the least funding.
22: Alhaitham pays for Kaveh's drinks. It's said in the Puspa Cafe's messageboard, I believe. He also offers to do so in the end of his Story Quest, after he and Kaveh shop for furniture together.
23: While Alhaitham says he "doesn't keep track of favours" and dismisses the Traveler and an NPC (that I don't recall the name of, sorry)'s thanks, he tells Kaveh that "earnest thanks should be given thrice" and asks him to repeat his.
24: After Alhaitham finishes talking to the Traveler by the end of the Interdarshan Championship event, and learns about Kaveh's outing with their friends, he leaves stating that he's sure Kaveh saved leftovers for him. His confidence implies that's an usual thing. If you read Kaveh's mind with Nahida, he asked for other dishes to bring home, not just leftovers.
25: Alhaitham's ten crates of wine that he got as an "apology", were taken by Kaveh, as observed in a messageboard.
26: Aparently, through the years after they split apart, they communicated with each other through academic papers, which mainly involved arguments about their differing ideologies.
27: Alhaitham's current house was originally a research center, the one where he and Kaveh were doing their thesis. That means he had to turn it into a house. He actually talks quite a bit about it in his Character Story. Aparently, it's convenient because it's close to the Akademiya, and having it is one of the things involved in his idea of "peace"
28: They talk about each other a LOT, as you said. I'm just going to elaborate on it. Alhaitham has 4 direct voicelines about Kaveh, with one indirect one, while Kaveh has 2 direct ones, and 1 indirect one. Alhaitham mentions him twice in the Archon Quest, while Kaveh is known for complaining about Alhaitham, which is even pointed out in the Interdarshan Championship event, by Collei. They also each have one character story dedicated to their shared past.
29: Panah, a NPC in the Akademiya, talks about hearing Kaveh and Alhaitham after the AQ.
30: Kaveh does most of the housework in Alhaitham's house, believing that Alhaitham "has never done a good deed unconditionally". Contrary to that, Alhaitham himself had said to the Traveler that he doesn't keep track of favours, implying that there is a miscomunication between them.

I think they both care very deeply about each other but are too stubborn to admit it. They both bring food home for the other, Alhaitham says he doesn’t care about being thanked but asks to be thanked 3 times by Kaveh, he pays for Kaveh’s stuff(albeit begrudgingly, but if he really didn’t want to he could just not), and Kaveh showed genuine concern when he learned about how Alhaitham stopped the sages.
He asked kaveh to thank him 3 times cause he wanted to tease him. That's his way of helping kaveh getting his mind of the news that he learnt about his dad.
We got to see a little bit of Alhaitham’s playful side when he teased Kaveh to say “please” again.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if the game developers themselves shipped them together. There is NO other pairing with this much CANONICAL mirror evidence. These two basically enroach each other’s voice lines, idles, and every second conversation. Heck at the precise moment where we learned about Kaveh’s past and we’re starting to thing that MAYBE alhaitham is too harsh on him and Kaveh MIGHT be better off moving out…..Hoyo throws the dialogue at the end of the parade of Providence event RIGHT INTO OUR FACES and VERY OBVIOUSLY tell us “no. He needs Alhaitham. Alhaitham knows him best and cares about him more than anyone else.” This is evidenced by how depressed kaveh gets when we break the news to him vs how alhaitham leads the conversation so well that Kaveh looks ahead and stays active and instead of wallowing in misery. Heck the man even teases him like a child and at that point it was obvious that he did it on purpose. Plus if you notice, everything Alhaitham says is usually for Kaveh’s benefit. He might not be good at conveying said advice and too blunt, but not once does he do so to feel superior. Also with Alhaitham’s personality of not wanting to leave his comfort zone and go out of his way, he wouldn’t have let Kaveh stay with him in the first place if he didn’t care about him or would’ve straight up kicked him out if he REALLY found him as annoying as Alhaitham says he does. Alhaitham is contradicting his own ideals.

Kaveh ordering extra food if there are no leftovers during an outing so that Alhaitham can have some. Alhaitham cleaning up his books after Kaveh complains about them. Alhaitham offering to let Kaveh live with him without a second thought. Kaveh being the olnly person who can make Alhaitham actually engage in a long and heated debate because Alhaitham finds his opposite perspective of the world interesting.
They're a match made in heaven. The only problem is that they had a massive falling out and are still recovering from that. Which is why so many people think their behavior is toxic when they just don't know how to go back to the way they were.

K there was a subtle read in between the lines moment in academia championship event that traveller notices, kinda like how they noticed in that wenut cannon event that the lady researcher had been flirting with the male researcher. As a chinese game mihoyo will never make two people explicitly gay for each other but that subtle hint in the event, the fact that their idles and dialogue reference each other, the fact they're roommates (code for gay) and the fact they're explicitly SECRET roommates. Usually a gay couple pretends to be just roommates to hide the fact they're gay. It all hints that even mihoyo expects us to believe they're gay and if not a couple yet, secretly in love. Bickering friends to lovers, the best kind. And China does actually have a lot gay romance novels and manga, it's just when they're serialised to anime and film they're changed from lovers to bros. So this kind of censorship but heavy queer coding would not be unusual. Heck its better than American queercoding, where queercoded characters also had to be villains or die.

Al Haitham actually show some emotions when he's talking with Kaveh (to be precise he usually speak as if he's annoyed with him but he actually tease him if you don't do the side quest with Dori to find more about Kaveh father) and more things but I'm too tired to explain XD

Like Alhaitham, the one we know as a person who doesn’t really care about how others view him, mr cool headed guy, actually stuttered and diverted the convo. @@lordoffortuneladies2755 I am a shipper myself and being in the shipping fandom for decades now (I really got into it when Naruto was up there among popular mangas) and shippers can read (and also ignore lore), but they can also nitpick things to act like their ship is canon already. Greatest example of this is Narusaku from Naruto. Their baby fit rage was so infamous once it was shown that yeah Naruhina was obvious since before the manga even started non-anime fandoms still make fun of them to this day.
Actually Alhaitham doesn't collect the rent money he does it cause Kaveh feels guilty to live in the house while not giving anything so Alhaitham just said u can pay the rent if you want. Also Kaveh does chores to compensate livinh in there too. Kaveh is that type of person who's feeling guilty over something too much and has too much empathy that sometimes ppl take advantage of him . I like to think that it's just Alhaitham's very, very *weird* way of caring for Kaveh. Because if you think about it, if Haitham were to express his concern in a more normal and conventional way (ie: "you should take care of yourself" or "i'm worried about you") Kaveh might feel guilty that he made Alhaitham worry about him. Given how smart he (Haitham) is, he probably realised that and that's why he doesn't have any tact with Kaveh. It might be a way to make him (Kaveh) feel more comfortable and show the more flawed sides of his personality. It's sort of Alhaitham's very own way to get Kaveh out of his self-destructive hole.

In the recent event, when Alhaitham talks to Kaveh and points things out about him, imo I think he’s actually trying to give him advise. Alhaitham is blunt and factual, not malicious. He comes off as rude and harsh sometimes, but it isn’t with ill intent.
I think it’s his way of showing he cares and trying to push him to better himself, (or at least point out where he needs work) but because of the blunt and analytical way he does this, Kaveh can’t see it and takes it as a personal attack, letting his emotions get in the way of understanding. (Also you can’t tell me that in the event, Alhaitham didn’t purposely leave his notes out to help them.)
You can see some of this in the event and Alhaitham’s story quest. I think Alhaitham does genuinely care about Kaveh, he just doesn’t express it emotionally and that makes it difficult for Kaveh to see as he’s an emotional person. And it’s pretty obvious Kaveh cares about Alhaitham too and thinks highly of him (bbg you can’t hide it, we see right through your facade.)
When you put it out like this, they really resemble the dynamic in pride and prejudice. 😂

3.4 is the biggest spending i have ever made haha. I saved lots of primo for xiao's weapon but got alhaitham's weapon first before getting xiao's.
Then i thought lightly that maybe i'll get alhaitham as i had his weapon now. But I made a mistake by playing his story quest and became deeply in love with his character and personality. I spent a total of 240+ fate in a total (all of the world quest available that i had never touch were swept out and now I could only explore if I need freemogems). Since haitham is inspired from an actual muslim arab scholar from the islamic age i see hoyo made sure to implement hospitality and generocity attributes to alhaitham, seeing one of his best firends suffering and not having the capabilities to live by his self he offered his house to stay in until kaveh can stand on his own without making it seem that he pities him or regards him less which in my opinion is an indication of how kind haitham is even though they argue most of the times, which is not a weird or a strange thing for brothers / best friends who knows each other since childhood

This is mentioned a lot. Their idles don't really play off each other, it's just the same kind of bird. Alhaitham's and Kaveh's legeit play off the exact same scenario, so if you see one then the other, in either order, it'll match. VS Yae and Raiden's are just kinda random.
I mean, it is fair to say that Kaveh and Alhaitham more directly play off of each other. But I still think Raiden’s and Miko’s idles are related. In Raiden’s trailer we even see that Miko releases a crow that lands on Raiden at the end of the trailer. And in the idles, matching birds (albiet now crows) appear.
They could have used any bird, and they didn’t have to use birds at all. But they did. It’s definitely more subtle than Kaveh and Alhaitham, but the characters have a connection, and their idles play off of it.

I rather not see them as a couple. Because I'm not fond of their dynamic as a romance. It's just icks me how they argue. And Kaveh I rather seen him with someone loving and sweet to him like Nilou for example.
I do know they are built to be symbolically and philosophically to be opposites that are two halves in the school of thought and wisdom. Virtue and Truth. We are in need of both to be balanced. Just like Kaveh and Alhaitham need each other in their day to day lives. They are living metaphors of these things and I enjoy Genshin for playing with lore and symbolism the way that they do.
God, it's my first time reading Alhaitham's good night line... I relate to this so badly... My roommate goes to a graphic design school and for whatever reason is up until like 3 am listening loudly to music and crafting. I've asked them to tune it down, but it happens again and again. Noise cancelling is a blessing, I love using it during arguments with them too. If I can't hear you, you can't bother me.

With Alhaitham, he's not only living with someone he's known for a very long time and knows very well, but Alhaitham is able to be strict with Kaveh and often scolds him for making bad decisions without thinking (like getting scammed into buying a dozen keychains because the seller lied and said for every keychain sold a child with get a free meal, but Sumeru has free healthcare so free meals are also available)

Kaveh blames everything on himself in the past and kaveh doesn't accept kindness especially Alhaithams pain and hurtful words heal him. It's also cannon that they bring home leftover food for each other. During the seasoning events, if you feed Alhaitham soup he won't refuse it - he'll say he wants to pack it up to take home for later. He brings the soup back to Kaveh. Lol
