Thank you for your help today Ryan! You know your smokers! I replaced my controller the other day, and hooked up a couple of connectors wrong... Ryan talked me through the wiring, and as soon as i told him the wires that were connected wrong, he zeroed right on it! I ran it through the temps, and it ran like new! Ryan called me a bit later to see how it went. The next time I want or need something for my cooking, im going to Smokin Brothers! Thank you again!
Great video. Got a free traeger from buddy. He said it was broken. Not the case! Auger was clogged cleaned. Plugged it in auger didn't spin. Watched this video. Unplugged the 3 wires from the controller, boom! Auger spinning! Thank you!
I am thinking about buying a used Pitt boss 850. The owner says that it won't maintain temperature. I was thinking it could be either the thermostat or the temp problem in the grill. It's in pretty good shape and I can get it for $75 bucks. Also possible control board? Any help where to start would be great. Thank you! Just subbed
Hello, I have changed the auger motor and and fan for my z grill 700, but I have a problem: the auger motor always running and the tempreture gets too high, I can't control the tempreture. why is that? also the fan always running at the smae speed!!! Thank you
So, my hotrod is not working but I am getting no error message at all. The ignitor light is still on as well as the auger light. Auger fills the pot with pellets theres just no heat in the rod. Could it be just a fuse?
I set my temp at 225 When it reaches 225. Auger stops feeding pellets. Temperature start dropping. And auger never restarts. I literally have to turn it off to restart the auger.
My Pitt boss has runaway heat. No matter the set point once it’s on it goes to 500 plus. Otherwise it runs great. Is this possibly something other than a bad controller? Thanks
more than likely it's the grill probe. mine did the same thing after a couple months of use I just called them up and they sent me a replacement one. you'll have to put it in yourself.
@@rulemob question, so if the probe was replaced, does the fan function at a lower speed, for a more controlled heat. Seems the fan is blowing at max speed
I have a z grill model and just replaced the rtd sensor an having a issue with the temp is running higher than the setting for instance I have temp control on 180 the temp runs up to 250 what could be the issue ?
Auger spins but if I put even a small amount of pellets (or even touch the auger slightly with my finger )it stops spinning but I can hear the motor still running......any input?
Are you plugged into a GFCI outlet? If not, you should be. If the GFCI trips and keeps tripping after you reset it, you'll need to troubleshoot what's causing it to do that. Usually, it's a bad hot rod (igniter). You can prove that by disconnecting the molex connector between the hot rod and the controller. If the controller comes on without tripping the GFCI when you plug in the cooker, then you know it's a bad hot rod. Some people will plug into a non GFCI outlet if they have a problem with the GFCI constantly tripping, but It's dangerous to do that. The GFCI is a safety feature to prevent electrocution when there is a short to ground. Sometimes GFCIs can go bad. If you haven't replaced yours recently, it might be worthwhile calling your friendly electrician.
I like how there is no repair video nowhere or schematics for the control panel. I'll be damned if I spend $100 for a new control panel when it is a fricken $1.20 capacitor or voltage regulator on the main board.
Sounds like an expensive peice of junk. Mine smokes like burning neighborhood down. Even had fire dept roll through looking for the fire. Treager #scam 🤢🤢

Your video is awesome, thanks for the in depth look
About how many ohms should the "hot rod" read? I got a reading of about 90 ohms. Is that about right?

Mine is digital control and does not all me to set the temperature. When I press the knob to set, the temperature shows 5
My Treager is making a load squealing noise when I turn it on.
Could it be the Main intake Fan and how do you replace the fan?

hey, I have the same issue, did you fix it?
Ugh..Mine will not power on. Hopefully we can do these steps and figure out whats wrong
What about just checking continuity on the first 3 things
My auger starts running from the time I plug it in and won't stop. What to do to fix it?
I have the same problem have you found a solution?

Way late with this answer, but you have stripped a gear in the gearbox. I just went thru this on my OKJ DLX. Cheap enough fix at least.
What can fix runaway heat?
RTD sensor is probably bad. It is is located on the left side of the smoker, on (Traegers).
Pit boss 700 classic auger will not stop running. As soon as you power on or power off the auger runs. Help
@Dwight Crumpler bought a new / different controller. It's been working great
I have ERP code. I unplug it for 5 minutes and make sure its in off position. It still don't work.
My smoking brothers grill is shocking me threw the handle. Does anyone know why it's doing that.
there is a bare wire touching metal somewhere. find it and put some black tape around it and get back to cookin.
Stop grilling in the pool any you should be good.
Jk! Sounds like a short to ground. Jiggle wires and look for a spark or bare wires.
