The reason I wish I used Sony is the third party glass. The reason I stay with Canon is because their bodies are so comfortable and intuitive. I don't have to stretch my finger to reach the shutter button. A couple of twin R6ii bodies and a backup r6 are a great kit for me.
I switched from Canon to Sony because of lens selection. I have now A7RV + Tamron 35-150 ultimate wedding kit. Amd then zv-e1 + tamron 17-50 f4 + laowa 10mm f2.8.
Canon really messed up by not allowing for 3rd party lenses. Can't even count those APS-C sigmas if you're a FF shooter. I'd totally have a couple of R6Miis if it wasn't for that. Instead I grew my FF Sony lens collection.
Ironically as a long time Sony camera and lens user, it's the the 35-150 Tamron that makes it either a Sony or Nikon game (IMHO)...great video Taylor...
AF still needs improvement specifically in low light. Had the z8 for the last wedding season and the EVF would show the AF tracking right but the actual photos are front focused. Believe their algorithm still favors what’s closest to the camera. IE a bouquet or something shiny in front.
@@robbie154yup facing the exact same issue, everything else is fine & great but AF needs to be improved a lot. Idk why it shows in focus on camera screen. FYI I’m using z8 & z6iii and getting same issues.
Using Sony for 5 years. Don't exactly love the colour science but from the specs to price to lens choice. It works great for me. I've used Canon for weddings. Really comfortable but too expensive. If anything. My next camera would probably be the Lumix S5ii successor because Lumix are seemingly becoming best of both worlds. Again depending on how they improve the AF
As a hobbyist with low to mid budget Canon is out of my reach if I don't adapt EF lenses. But overall it's a bigger kit. I'm thinking about going mirrorless and my options are mostly Nikon and Sony. It could sound weird but one point that's great with Sony it that allow to use APSC lenses in full frame mode. So you end with a smaller and cheaper kit, there are APSC lenses that covers full frame (like the Sigma 10-18 f2.8 at 12mm) and others where the vignette is minimal. Nikon can adapt Sony lenses without size penalty, so it's an option too. And the bodies are cheaper for the same segment.
I used M50 and it was great cam. Now using r6 with ef adapter no issues at all. The lenses works perfectly even the sigma 100mm f1.4 I also use mike adapter that has Nd filter for video from time to time
Remapping is why I'm locked into Sony. I had a Zf and I'm one of the rare people who liked the (physical) ergonomics of that camera, but the lack of options for changing the camera and molding it to me was why I eventually sold it. That and it had a kinda weird baked-in sharpening going on in the RAW files.
I made the switch from Nikon to Sony 12 months ago and and am very happy with that decision. My photography progression started with the D5300, then the D7500 and finally the z50. Unreliable focusing on the D7500, followed by the slow focus of the Z50 (can't even keep up with my walking dog) were very frustrating. I looked at the performance (esp focus ) of the Z6, Z6ii and the Z7 and I had no confidence that Nikon would produce a mid-price camera which could focus quickly or accurately. The Sony A7IV is very well priced in Europe with regular sales on lenses plus access to 3rd party lenses. Z8 may be great, however I picked up the Sony A7IV, 24-105 f4 and the 200-600 (on sale) for the same price as the Z8. I held onto the Nikon setups and use them for travel or other situations where the A7IV is not warranted or too heavy.
I shoot with both Canon R5 and Sony A1 and A7RV. Have you used Cobalt-Imaging? Can make the colors of any camera loom like any other. Thank you and take care.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto yeah traded in a z6, z6ii, 35,50,85, 24-120, and Tamron 70-200… all for a Sony a7iv to go along with my a7iii and my schools a7rv. I teach a photography class.

I have used all three major brands and Nikon has been my favourite. But it really feels like their AF is still a generation behind Sony and Canon. This really wasn't the case in the DSLR days with their 3D tracking but somehow they've hit a bit of a wall with AF improvement. In a few years I'd love to go back to Nikon from Sony if the AF can be improved.
@@TaylorJacksonPhotoI can answer as I just did the same. Cf express type A is ridiculously expensive especially for being worse than type B. The Sony screens and evfs suck. Even the “hi res” screen on the A7RV is dim, desaturated and overall not a great viewing experience compared to canon/nikon. The EVFs drop in resolution when you focus DRASTICALLY. Yes the a9iii seemed to fix this, but they need to do that for all their cameras not just flagships. The EVF still isn’t as good visually despite the res on paper. Also build quality still isn’t there. Last but not least, no 85 1.2 and with the latest release I don’t expect Sony to ever release one.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto It always feels like "home" whenever I pick up a Canon camera. Sony feels like a machine, a tool, and when I'm using Sony it's like going to work and doing my part then done

Using the tamron 28-75 nonstop. Left canon because of company decisions like no third party lenses. Miss my Nikon files but sony is a better do it all "media" system.
Always loved the Canon bodies. Had at least a dozen or more in the past but also played with recent Sony gear. At the end I still enjoy the Canon more but love the Sony lens options. Im stuck. I tried Sony for 3 years and cant get around the annoying ergo and quirks. And now with constant gear pricing rising I really can not afford to rebuy gear again. I will wait to see what Sony A74 mk2 will bring. I really hope it has a proper large lcd with more pixels and a better designed body and contours. My palm was constantly red when holding the A74 with a larger lens. So awkward for my hands compared to Canon. Maybe just maybe there is last Sony with my name on it. Holding out and this is why I didn't upgrade my Canon R5 to the mark 2 just yet.
11:09, Taylor canon R5ii has the ability to go back and forth in and out of crop now. You can set it in their new custom buttons but it is deep in the menu and their famous info for more selections lol. I have mine set to the front DOF button. But R5 and prior don’t seem to have this feature where you have to press and select of the 4 options.
Canon have shortcut on the R5/R5II and then choose on the menu if you need crop or full frame which is 2 buttons press only, to me much better instead of pressing it accidentally.
Im a Nikon shooter. Shoot with Z6ii n Z8 l. Nikon should also make 1.4 S line primes for hybridshooters. No denying AF is still not completely reliable.
I think it would be better to put the feelings of Canon and Nikon into Leica, because Leica's preservation of value can give you a real return, unlike Canon and Nikon's outdated products that will become electronic waste. Sony is a more practical tool. Its current cameras have not yet established a brand sentiment that people believe in because it is currently the most practical productivity tool. A brand will have inexplicable sentiments, usually because the brand is about to or has already withdrawn from the main productivity range, and is no longer used in top industrial production. It has either evolved into an artistic luxury product, or has become a fossil for future generations.
I have baby hands so the Sony's fit my grip so much better than Canon's. Also, pricing in my country is very attractive for Sony. I could get a new A7RV plus the 2.8 trinity plus a 35 and 50 1.4 GM for the same price as an R5 and two, maaaybe three red ring lenses. Also there's the third party option. I don't shoot portraits a lot so don't want to spend first party prices on lenses so Sigma/Tamron fills in that niche so much better for when I want a 85 or 135mm lens, or a macro, or a long zoom.
I just dont think id ever go to canon even if they were hands down the best camera ever. They are just so dslr looking even the mirrorless options are just massive snd clunky looking. Nikon is coming more in line with how a modern camera should look and operate. I use fuji in my professional work though and its a good price to performance system for what I want.
