R. Dean Taylor passed away just a few weeks ago….loved this song.
@Robert Hoffman The timing was uncanny, as I had no idea who had sung the song when it popped into my mind to review it, and after I uploaded the song I discovered he had passed away. I was glad that the timing had me do it in honor of him, even though I learned afterwards about his passing. The song has stood the test of time, as will his memory.
@@RockN2Country I’m glad you honored his memory….little known fact, R. Dean Taylor wrote this song and his recording of it was to be just a demo….but the producers liked it so much they added the sirens and orchestra and released it….glad to listen to a reactor from Jersey, spent my first 50 years up in North Jersey. Keep up the good work!!
@@sorrystaunton Awesome! What part of Jersey?
I couldn't have remembered R. Dean Taylor, but as soon as I read the title, I heard sirens in my head. What a great blast from my past! Thanks Don for a great song and reaction!
haven't heard this song in forever. and yeah you're right, so many songs i imagined as light hearted but then i go back and listen closer and realize it isn't so light hearted after all
The Starland Vocal Band wrote Afternoon Delight. I remember that song also from the 1970s. R. Dean Taylor was a Canadian/American songwriter, if I'm not mistaken. I do remember this song from the 1970s too. It's a very powerful and emotional song. Very dark theme. Cheers! ✌️
@Dwayne Wladyka Ahhh, good memory on the Starland Vocal Band!!
@@RockN2Country I remember AM radio, before it became all talk show and sports oriented. This is one of the songs I remember. Cheers!
Always remember and enjoy.. I sometimes sing this chorus just for the memorable melody and lyrics...I was about 10 or 11 when it came out.
This is an AWESOME Song
This is a great song. I remember it from my childhood as well. Thanks for doing it.
Good Sunday Morning Don, I have a very vague recollection of this song and, like you,bi had certainly never paid any attention to the lyrics. I was thinking it was time for another Country Heart reaction and I think this one certainly fills the bill. So thanks Don't for the song and reaction. P.S. congrats Scarlett Knights!---#UTRCM
August of '70, I was 6.
Good morning Don. I hope you have a good day.
@Sandra Turner Thank you! I hope your day is wonderful too!
Hey Don this is a song I listened to when I was younger as well.
Truly a sad and moving story but not quite Country to this old fellows ears.....
I guess we will see what others have to say as far as that goes.
This is not a slight in any way as it brought back memories.
Happy Sunday to all!

Hi my friend since Don put this in the country heart series that means he knows it isn't country from a musical standpoint but he believes that lyrically and thematically it could have been a country song. I tend to agree with him on this one. I'm not even 100% sure I have even heard it before but there was something vaguely familiar about it. Hope you have a nice, relaxing Sunday afternoon.----#UTRCM
This is one of those songs we heard often on the radio. Took me the longest time to figure out that line “ I wish I had you to talk to.” Also I didn’t recall hearing the exchange of gunfire at the end. Maybe they cut that off for AM play, or I just missed it. Great choice, Don. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.🌸
@@mikebarnett9012 Thanks a million Mike!
I have yet to understand the nuances of Dons different series so I guess I misunderstood. I now knowing that agree as well. There have been some other songs that I definitely did not think they belonged here at all so wouldn't you know I would complain about one that actually makes sense now.
Perhaps I shall defer to your comments prior to posting mine in the future!

@@cliffordbarnes1631 Sometimes I can make sense of it but other times not so much.---#UTRCM
@@Caperhere I'm with you, Caper. I don't remember the gunfire at the end being played on the radio...just the sirens. I think I must be the oldest of Don's subs. Either that or having many older siblings gave me access to older songs. 1955
Afternoon Delight Starland Vocal Band
@williamwassing Good catch!! I was pretty sure it wasn't ABBA, but couldn't think of the right one. Thanks!
Yes sir, I do remember this one. And yes, as Dwayne mentioned, R. Dean Taylor is a Canadian! Interesting side-note, he produced Motown Records as well as writing and singing. This one came out in the '70s, but he had other hits in the 60s (one I remember well is I Gotta See Jane). He wrote some of his songs with the Hollad-Dozier team of Supremes fame. This is good one the Country Heart Series indeed. Thanks again Don for a great reaction!
R. Dean Taylor was the first Caucasian artist signed to the Motown label. While "Indiana Wants Me" was his only big hit in the United States, he did well in the U.K. and Europe in general with "Gotta See Jane" and the northern soul classic "There's a Ghost in my House." Very unique artist!
@@dennisking7872 Cool! Thanks Dennis
He also did "There's a Ghost in my House" which is a wholly different genre..
Afternoon Delight was by the Starland Vocal Band.. Yeah and probably being kind of the same age I understand your thinking :)
Hey Don I have never heard it before but it is a winner for sure, love the start of this one
Please react to Big Al Downing and Teresa Collier sing What a man will do (A woman will too) or his solo Touch Me. Nobody else has ever done a reaction to any of his songs.
Could you do a reaction to Johnny Cashs song Man in Black the one that he did at a university. He wrote the song there agree talking to a lot of the students.
1970
The Bee Gees (British) sang this song too. Four brothers. The Gibbs. That's who I first heard sing it. It was played on Rock stations at the time. I always liked it. I believe Andy Gibb broke away from his brothers' style of music to do disco music, eventually.
Enjoyed this song and your reaction.
However, I would like to suggest that you listen to one of my favorites from Hal Ketchum, a rather recently passed member of the Grand Ole Opry.
I would like to suggest either (or, selfishly, even both) " Small Town Saturday Night" or "Past the Point of Rescue".
Yeah, this is a classic that does have a kind of Country feel. Are you familiar with Freddy Weller's cover of 'Games People Play?' Joe South was the first to record it, I think, and it is a classic rock song. I happen to like Weller's country version better. Might check it out.
You should do forever country artists now and then
Hello RockN2Country, Good Reaction!! Could You Please React To The Highwaymen - Highwayman And Desperados Waiting for a Train (American Outlaws: Live at Nassau Coliseum, 1990) Thank you
Sorry, this is a pop song.
