RIP Jim Steinman. What an awesome songwriter he was. Jim wrote with a background in musical theatre so that's where you are hearing the "drama" in this. He wrote all the best stuff for Meatloaf but also wrote some great tunes like this one for Bonnie, Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing at All", Meat Loaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", the Sisters of Mercy's "This Corrosion" and "More", Barry Manilow's "Read 'Em and Weep", Celine Dion's cover of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now".
The entire video is a dream sequence…however, the song was written in the point of view of someone who use to be human and now recently became a vampire….this was told by Jim Steinman, as it was the idea behind the song.
It is all good Dani. We are still here for you. Everyone can get overwhelmed at times so just take some deep breaths and take care of what you need to take care of. Most importantly, please take care of you first.
Jim Steinman actually wrote this for a musical about vampires. The idea never fully manifested and he gave the song to Bonnie Tyler to record. If you listen to the lyrics it all makes sense- “Once upon a time there was light in my life, but now there’s only love in the dark…” I have a feeling that’s where the idea for the glowing eyed children may have stemmed from.
According to Rolling Stone Magazine it was vampires from outer space, good call, Joel. In the eighties there was two types of love, one with the light on in bed and one with the light off in the dark. I never tried it in the dark myself.
Love the lyrics of Jim Steinman. 'We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks'. That is such a Jim Steinman line. This could easily be Meatloaf belting this out.
You need to hear her song It's a heartache. You really get to hear that kind of a Frye sound all the way through the song. I truly like this one over the the other songs only to hear that grit in her voice. Hope you like it as much as I do thank you. Hope you have a wonderful peaceful day.
Canadian Rory Dodd is the male vocalist you hear throughout this song. He sang a number of Jim Steinman’s songs and did backing vocals on some of Meatloaf’s recordings as well. Just an amazing singer, who also had a successful career as a session vocalist.
The number one reason you’re going to watch it again she about brought you to tears yes you might have to listen to it again and she will bring you to tears once you understand what she’s talking about
Director of this video was Russel Mulcahey. He’s 80’s famous for directing two landmark videos: Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Video Killed The Radio Star” by the Buggles. (The latter was the first video MTV ever aired. Very 80’s lol
I like watching you react to more original people like this. If you like truly original female voices, I don't recall you doing a Kate Bush unless I'm just drawing a blank. Joni Mitchell also uses her voice in really interesting ways. Fleetwood Mac would fit in there too. But if you like the grit then you need Janis Joplin. She even has a great duet with Tom Jones. It's all genius.
The singer Kim Carnes has nice grit to her voice. Her huge hit was a song called "Bette Davis Eyes."

This era of music the vocals' trend was on intensity on both American and Hispanic music industries. Check out Laura Branigan's Gloria. Also, Lisette and Jon Secada did the Spanish cover for Eclipse Of The Heart in 1985.
The song was penned by Jim Steinman, he who wrote Meatloaf's catalogs, and it was he who sang the male lines. As with all his greatest songs, it was pure rock opera (which I love). Bonnie Tylers voice was perfect, it added a depth that I don't think any other singer could. All in all, one marvelous and one off song !
The late great Jim Steinman. Air Supply "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" and Barry Manilow "Read 'em and Weep" were also hits in the same time period.
@@ZEPnALE yes, that was certainly his main claim to fame. a couple of other great songs from their follwup album are dead ringer for love, a great duet with cher, and i'm gonna love her for both of us.
Jim Steinem ballads are awesome. He wrote songs Meat Loaf, who is amazing. You have good taste. A few artists you would enjoy,…. Norah Jones, joss Stone, Taylor Dayne, Anastacia, Amy Lee, Happy Thanksgiving
If you're into masterpiece hits by Jim Steinman, you HAVE TO react to Meat Loaf (RIP): "It's All Coming Back To Me" "I Would Do Anything For Love" "Paradise By The Dashboard Lights"
A ( Kelly Moore ) cantou divinamente essa música quando ela era caloura, muitos anos atrás. Kelly Moore cantou também ( Somebody Else's Guy - Jocelyn Brown ). O dia que cantou essa música, foi também divinamente.
Love this 80s flashback. It has all the 80s clichés before they became clichés! Amazing voice for this Jim Stienmen Song. CELINE DION - IT’S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW is another great Stienmen song with the same vibes.
This song was originally written by Jim Steinman for Meat Loaf but he had to refuse it because of his contract with his Label. Bonnie's version is phenomenal but you should also look up Meat Loaf's cover of this song which was recorded about 5 years later.
Don't look for meaning in 80s music videos, they were either absurdly abstract or following the lyrics word for word like Dire Straits Tunnel of Love music video.
The video has nothing to do with the song really. The song itself was written by Jim Steinman (who did most of Meat Loaf's good stuff and many others) for a musical about vampires.
@@gman5218 that isnt the claim bonnie tyler made in an interview. she said the singer for meatloaf didnt want to do it.if they recorded it yrs later i havent heard it.but then again changing your mind yrs later is trying to catch a ship that already sailed.
Seems a bit unusual that the younger generation feels a need to analyze and give feedback on stuff that people of the older generation just listened to and felt without the need to analyze it.
amazing song, a well made video.. shame the absurd and perverted content is included.. ill just assume it was the producers or directors choice, im hoping anyway, i dont know anything about bonnie tylers taste in schoolboys and the like, but im sensing the mind of a gay man is responsible
in the 80s we had the best singers, the best talent, the best songs, and the best vibe in the history of humanity and will never be repeated
I see you didn't mentioned the hairstyles. Good call.
Ok boomer

Another good one from Bonnie Tyler is "Holding Out For A Hero" and "It's A Heartache".
Once upon a time there was light in my life now there's only love in the dark. Powerful.
Bonnie Tyler is also wonderful in "It's a Heartache".

It explains the lyrics, but not the ninjas or half dressed American footballers, or the glitter covered fencers.
Russell Mulcahy directed. Question answered.
This song for Welsh Bonnie was massive hit everywhere written by the great Jim Steinman who of course wrote for MEATLOAF
Celine's It's All Coming Back To Me Now also written by him?
Dani, Just take it one day at a time, and the most of things will work out. Bonnie did an amazing job on Total Eclipse Of The Heart.
Take your time, Dani. We’ll wait. Good reaction here to an iconic song.

Great song I love it
The glowing eyes are just like kids in the movie "Children of the Damned". Very creepy, but overall another great 80's video!
Don’t feel guilty, Dani - just do what you can!
You do you Dani. We all need down time sometimes.
Totally Eclipse of the heart is the perfect song for this type of feeling hope everything works out for You 👍
Faster than the Speed of the Night is another opus singing by her

Why does no one make theatrical ballads anymore?? I hear chants of "don't catch feelings", they don't know what they're missing. Love this.
Dani, Thanks for reacting to that song. It was a great video.

Meatloaf didn’t sing backup . It was meant for meatloaf but they fell out .
Dani you are doing well. Bravo!! Thsi song needs to be heard and felt.

Her unique voice is down to surgery on her vocal cords.
Her voice got raspy after having throat surgery in 1978
these comments are boring and im saying it.
