- WKRP theme by Steve Carlisle.
A catchy song for a favorite show deserves an extended intro.
‘From town to town, up and down the dial’. A Program Director came to work at a small AM radio station and stayed four years.
From Andy Travis’s perspective, this video looks back on his work and relationships at WKRP after he has moved on.
Most of the original employees did by the time of the reprized ‘New WKRP’ 10 years later.
Michael B. Kassel’s book “America’s Favorite Radio Station WKRP in Cincinnati” gives good insight to the hands-off production and evident chemistry between the cast that influenced the stories of the original show and made it such a unique MTM property.
This is one of those iconic theme songs that never got the full credit it deserves. This song brings me back to a much better and simpler time. We had no cell phones, computers, or social media for that matter. These days were really the best and sadly they are gone forever, but at least I had the privilege of growing up in that era. I often play this song because it reminds me of those better times, when we all use to get along much better, and there was not so much hatred in the world. Thanks for posting!!!
"The price for finding me was losing you." Damn, that line hits home.
That verse is chilling. Travis always seems sad underneath, and it explains why eloquently.
Reminded me the John Mayer song “Wild Blue” with the lyric “I found myself when I lost you.”
It's the 70s baby.
@@BOKO20101 He also seemed like the coolest boss ever.
Indeed
One of the best sitcoms ever created!!
I love this theme song, it stirs up feeling of nostalgia. Does anyone have this experience with this song?
I definitely do!
yes , much simpler time of life.
I'll play it when I'm having drinks every few months or so.
This only one of three shows (other 2 are One Day And A Time and Alice) that bring back a wonderful feeling of nostalgia, watching my mother enjoy Alice and One Day as a little boy and the feeling of my parents leaving for a pilot company party and watching WKRP with the sitter… weird, wonderful memories
I definitely do
A great theme song in the 70s style. It's almost happy. It's almost sad.
It's perfect.
Thank you so much for this. I am very surprised this video hasn't had millions of views ! Very precious! Love the show, loved the cast!
Possibly because as of today, it's only been uploaded since November 2021, and it's now the beginning of July in 2022. Not enough time for all those views. Although, I do agree.
Loved the series RIP to Johnny doctor and Frank Bonner
And also to Gordon Jump and Carol Bruce
Herb died!?
@@sissybrooks8588 yes, Howard died last year at 83 and the Herb died in '21 not sure on the age
I can't believe this TV show came out when I was just a year old and it stopped right before I turned 5. Man, I'm getting old king I know it may be hard for a lot of people to believe but I used to watch this when I came home from school back when they had television reruns. They don't make TV good like this anymore ! It just goes to show you that good work passes the test of time ! Every time I hear this song I remember my mom being in the kitchen cooking dinner and my dad coming in from a hard day's work oh the memories
. Rest in peace to all the cast members that have passed on!
I liked the show as a teenager because all these ‘grownups’ had regular problems.
Then there was Les and his teletype machine. And waiting for the ‘ratings’ book in the mail. Not a computer in sight.
The more things change, the more they stay the same - but you can order take-out faster.
Exactly how I remember it too, although 10 years old when the show began in '78. You nailed the memory for me!
Back when tv shows were GREAT & also had amazing opening songs for the show, they are very memorable
I like those old songs, they always told the story, Beverly Hillbillies or Gilligan’s Island too.
I worked in radio for over 20 years in several states. I literally and truly lived this life! I completely relate to the lyrics. And it was a great TV show! Many years ago radio actually kinda was like this! And it was super fun.
Answer me this one question. Why is it that when you call into the radio station and actually ask for them to play your favorite song they tell you what song to ask for?! For the life of me I cannot understand why they don't play with good music anymore that's part of the reason why the Internet and Spotify have taken over. When I was growing up in the 90s( as a teenager) you would hear music on the radio all the time but it's the same song out of maybe four hours of listening to music you might hear three good songs in the entire playlist.
To answer your question the best i can. First off I have been out of Radio for a long time. It is differant now then from when I worked in it. When I worked a live music air shift I indeed took music requests! And I loved it, and played the song. It was a blast!! I still broadcast, sports now. But not on the radio.@@elijahrussjr
For most viewers, this was a sitcom. For those of us in the business, it was a documentary.
Best TV Theme Song Ever
Absolutely
Grew up on this show was just a young child enjoyed watching with my uncle great show 😊
Thank you so much for this nostalgic awesomeness of a video!
I so remember growing up as a little kid in the 1980s watching this hilarious sitcom/comedy after the cartoons,
after school in the evenings!
One of the best Television theme songs ever!
When Network Television was absolutely golden and the overall human condition was awesome!
2020s sucks!
You're welcome and I agree!
Yess yess.. love these comments. One of my favorite sitcoms.i listen to this very frequently. This video is so dearing. Rip to the characters that are in Paradise.
Rest In Peace Dr Johnny Fever 😔🤘🏻
God, I miss those days.
Really good lyrics
Remember when people had authentic personalities?
I use this song for my Radio Show opener sometimes.
Love both versions.
WOW!!! This brings back memories
As usual, the full version of a theme song is far better than the abbreviated aired version. The instrumentation in this is great.
I agree
The Thanksgiving one was the BEST. Thowing turkeys fro. A helicopter. LIVE TURKEYS. " I thought turkeys could fly" GREAT SHOW!!!!
"Turkeys Away!": "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly..."
Such a sweet, heartfelt song.
And the senator, while insisting he was not intoxicated, could not explain his nudity
Yep! Definitely missing that part!
Play it Everytime I go through Cincinnati
Good memories
For the TV version:
Baby, if you've ever wondered
Wondered whatever became of me
I'm living on the air in Cincinnati, Cincinnati, WKRP
Got kind of tired packing and packing
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be
Just maybe think of me once in awhile
I'm at WKRP in Cincinnati...
It's wistful as a theme. The other verse kinda gets sad.
Also, nice video.

1:42-1:45, I wish I was Gordon Jump

Loni Anderson anyone? ❤❤❤❤❤
Phone cops play rough!
Is this the version that Les (Richard Sanders) sang? I swear it sounds like him.
Sure sounds like Richard Sanders, it was Steve Carlisle.
Sanders sang a line from “Pack up all your cares and woes” song while goofing around to make Jennifer laugh in one episode. That’s part of the WKRP The Musical clip I last posted.
I play after Dr Johnny Fever, but milder.
My dad used to threaten me by telling me to sing the end credits song perfectly or else he'd beat up my mom.
Hernandez Jennifer Gonzalez Shirley Thomas George
only part of this i don't like is the long musical break. Wish they had just done another verse.
