Most of the critics reviews are positive anyways, this has the highest number of GOTY awards. I saw Nakey Jakey's video , no game is perfect, but I liked TLOU2. Playing through the game a second time made me realize how much I care about the characters in the game. The scene with Joel and Ellie in the museum made me want a DLC that’s just Joel and Ellie hanging out and watching movies
@Thunder Cake123 Yeah I agree with that but I think that may have been somewhat intentional too, at least sometimes; they humanise some characters just enough to make them feel real. In turn one you kill the random people it can feel just like that; they are just random people with their own lives who you didn't know. As for the characters in the story I agree with you, I think it's probably some development constraint, or just a narrative one; they probably too many for their own good tbh

You know when I first watched this video I thought to my self this guy is crazy. But 3 years later having had enough time to forget about all the spoilers and all the negativity I bought and played the game for myself and experience it blind. And having now finished it this guy was spot on.

@@smellyarmpit23 I honestly have no idea. I prepared a long comment speculating every possible reason but it was very long so I didn't bother posting it. To sum it up I think it's mainly 2 things. 1, people being hurt by Joel's death and 2 later being forced to play as the person who killed him. Not only that there was so much negativity and bad aura around the game a bunch of people I'm sure just followed the group instead of giving it a proper chance. I bet a lot of people would chanage their opinion on the game if they gave it a second chance, especially now thanks to hindsight. Personally, I was able to open myself up to it, and playing as Abby was honestly a stroke of genius and a big part of why I enjoyed the game so much.
Didn't have a Playstation at the time and didn't pay much attention to the game, just heard it was bad. I recently got a PS5 and gave it a try, and it completely blew me away.

I think the gameplay and AI is criminally underrated for this game since the entire focus is on the storyline. The way stalkers work in game and in general enemy encounters are so damn dynamic you will be always on your toes. Stalkers should be the seed for next generation AI design of stealth enemies. Amazing.
Just played TLOU for the first time on PC and beat it, not sure if the gameplay is similar to the 2nd game for the remaster but there was not a dull moment during gameplay. Phenomenal

@@nubsmcgee Anytime someone brings up this point I always wonder if they ever take into account what occurs BEFORE they enter the house with Abby’s crew. Because it seems to me it’s always (conveniently) ignored. People act like in the house, surrounded by Abby’s crew, is the first time they give their names. It isn’t. Joel and Tommy rescue Abby. Abby works alongside them to help fight off numerous infected. They’re stuck in a dire situation in desperate need of escape. Tommy then proceeds to tell her their names and ask for hers. Do you not think, all things considered, that this is a situation in which it’s acceptable and even useful to know each other’s names? Fighting alongside someone in a fight or die situation is a pretty quick way to gain each other’s trust. At least to a name knowing level I’d say. It’s only AFTER this that she suggests going to the house where her crew are. If Joel and Tommy suddenly decide to lie about their names whilst there then Abby would have called them out.

It's also way fucking awesome. - This game will only age like fine wine once all the whiners drop off and more people pick it up. It's not "the lesser sequel", it's an awesome sequel, much like "Uncharted 2" or something. And in turn, thát game was like the "Dark Knight" to its first part. - So yea, I'd argue "Part II" is like 'The Dark Knight', which definitely isn't perfect either. - I just get chills every time I think back of the game I spent nearly FIFTY hours with. - I also get nauseated, because damn is it dark and depressing. It makes the first game look cute. - But that also means that it made an impact. I will add that it was overly praised in the awards world and whatnot... Or was it, I'm not so sure. - I just mean that it seemed like they were "overrating" it, while, at least for the VGAs, the audience votes went to 'Ghost of Tsushima'. - But I think "TLoU2" will stand the test of time more because of its story and unique approach. -'Ghost of Tsushima' just works because it's refreshing, received like "a better Assassin's Creed", with fun gameplay and a great world to go around it. Though, I haven't seen much praise for the story. "TLoU2" gives you much more to think about, and many people don't appreciate it... yet.
I remember when I first hopped on the hate train because everybody else was doing it and I wanted to try and fit in. I didn't like this game because it shot both of my parents in front of me in a alley after leaving the theater. Both of my parents were killed by this game. But I did inherit my father's wealth and I've used that money to never work again and spend most of my time clicking on every TLOU2 videos I can find and say how much I thought the story sucked. I will now dedicate the rest of my life debating anyone who thought the story was good.

I finally got to playing and beating this game about a week ago. I had no idea why people were upset about this game, but I just played it without digging into it. It is now one of my favorite games I have played.
I had a friend who loved TLOU, and read all about TLOU2 spoilers. He was livid and felt like they ruined the series. I didn't read the spoilers but I heard how mad everyone was. Played the game on Day 1 and didn't stop until I beat it. I told him how good it was, and basically had to persuade him to play it; then he loved it. It was just stupid gamers being stupid gamers.
I didn’t know anything about these games and I played the first one and second one back to back recently and it was one of the most intense gaming experiences of my life, don’t know why people hate it cause I wish I could replay them again for the first time nothing quite like it I’m glad other ppl feel the same way.

I got influenced by my brother's reactionary opinion back when this game came out, playing it now and i'm absolutely loving it, it's stunning and runs amazingly on the ps5. and I say this as someone with specific tastes that hasn't been a huge fan of heavily cinematic games ( I thought GoW 2018 was pretty mid but Ragnarok was a masterpiece imo)

I feel like that’s an important difference 😂 I like the game, but I still feel like it doesn’t properly explain to the player why she doesn’t kill Abby, or foreshadow her choice. It still feels kind of out of nowhere, with everything pushing her to that place.

Too much of it felt like it came out of nowhere, that even if they have it written in some book as lore, it doesn’t translate to the audience. Plus the cut levels show what they wanted to add, which would have foreshadowed it a lot better(especially the boar scene)

I just finished this 30 plus hour long adventure game having managed to, if not avoid spoilers, have no memory of the game beyond the E3 trailer. It was released at peak unvaccinated COVID times and I was busy working and my children who are growing had taken over the PS4. With a week to myself and a PS5 acquired this past Christmas, I purchased the last of us part 2 and consumed it. It was amazing.

Dunkey I beat the remastered version of this game today so I can finally watch the video. I think when you say Abby is like Joel in her adventure, it really nails what makes the game work. The idea of tearing down the players preconceptions of who is good or bad even when the underlying groundwork is the same really shines thru. Great video

Guys there’s actually a hidden ending where you unlock a feature that allows you play the entire game as Will Ferrell. In order to unlock this ending you must go into the Cheesecake Factory and ask the waiter for the “Ferrell Surprise.” Don’t let the developers know I told you this.

This game really highlights how stupid gamers are. There’s plenty of legitimate criticism for this game but Ellie being gay isn’t one. Abby being too masculine isn’t one. Joel dying isn’t one. The fact that the actors and devs were harassed and sent death threats over this game is way more pathetic than any bad IGN review

I find the cruelty of the story of TLOU2 is pretty practical. I understand that people don’t like emtional hardship playing a video game, not everybody’s cup of tea. But cinematically, i find it intriguing.

@@xylan9543 You don't get it. Everytime someone goes after a revenge mission and commits violance they lost someone they love. Joel gets killed because he kills her father. When she kills Joel out of revenge she losts her beloved friends. Ellie loses Jesse and Tommy gets crippled. When Abby forgives her and show mercy everyhing becomes great after that. Ellie and Dina is living happily Tommy doesn't let go and she loses her wife. Ellie again doesn't let go but loses her fingers so she cannot play the guitar, the last memory and gift from Joel is gone because of her revenge quest. She doesn't kill Abby because it is going to be a constant revenge chain and she ends it. Lev would have come after her if she had killed Abby. Whole fucking idea of the game is revenge is not the solution and only brings destruction to people around you. Violance births violance. Killing Abby would change nothing and Ellie knew that. Abby is not a monster. You would have done the same thing if someone killed your father. But she suffers her consequences and doesn't deserve to die. If she dies, Ellie also needs to die so on and on
@@CrawLBoss this is one of the best takes I've read about the motivation behind Ellie not killing Abby. People keep acting like she just up and stopped with no real reason for it. They disregard the build up, because most of them never actually played it. They just base their opinion off a playthrough of someone who went into the game wanting to hate it. I guess the main problem is that story is too mature, A Dumb teenager cant understand how raw, cruel and horrible is the actual world, and TLOU is more based in our world than it looks like.
Ah I see you didnt come across the alternate ending of last of us 2. It's normal to miss it, considering you have to find the little giraffe statue in the first level and proceed to place it on the alter in the last mission. It was quite unexpected to have the giraffe god descend from the clouds and wipe out the fungus and bring peace back to humanity.
I put off playing this game for years until now (2023) because of all the negative feedback it got... and I'm sorry I was a sheep. Yes Joel dying is disappointing but the rest of the game is just perfect, good combat, good story, good characters, good graphics, good sound. I hope everyone plays it and isn't a sheep like me. If you spread the spaghetti out on a heat proof dish you can bake it until it becomes crispy. Then just add the bolognese and parmesan on top and bake for a few more minutes. It's really not that bad. Not as good as pizza but I can see why some people like spaghetti.

And then I began taking it to the village to sell. One day, much of the fruit was gone from my tree. Pieces were scattered on the ground, half-eaten. I thought it was probably a The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog. Have you ever see one? About the size of a large house cat. Opportunists. I built a snare, using branches and wire. It didn't take long for the animal to set it off. But the The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog trashed so hard it broke out of the snare. Broke its leg as well. I tried to grab it, but it slipped away. It ran under the house. I knew it would show itself sooner or later. So I waited, for hours, into the night. When my brothers called for me, I did not answer. I didn't make a sound. I was so still. Finally, it came out. It knew I was there, but it was hungry. This time, I was ready. I caught it. It fought me, but I was stronger. The merciful thing would've been to kill it. I kept it. It lived for quite some time.

Playing through the game a second time made me realize how much I care about the characters in the game. The scene with Joel and Ellie in the museum made me want a DLC that’s just Joel and Ellie hanging out and watching movies

In turn one you kill the random people it can feel just like that; they are just random people with their own lives who you didn't know. As for the characters in the story I agree with you, I think it's probably some development constraint, or just a narrative one; they probably too many for their own good tbh

You know when I first watched this video I thought to my self this guy is crazy. But 3 years later having had enough time to forget about all the spoilers and all the negativity I bought and played the game for myself and experience it blind. And having now finished it this guy was spot on.

@@smellyarmpit23 I honestly have no idea. I prepared a long comment speculating every possible reason but it was very long so I didn't bother posting it. To sum it up I think it's mainly 2 things. 1, people being hurt by Joel's death and 2 later being forced to play as the person who killed him. Not only that there was so much negativity and bad aura around the game a bunch of people I'm sure just followed the group instead of giving it a proper chance. I bet a lot of people would chanage their opinion on the game if they gave it a second chance, especially now thanks to hindsight. Personally, I was able to open myself up to it, and playing as Abby was honestly a stroke of genius and a big part of why I enjoyed the game so much.
Didn't have a Playstation at the time and didn't pay much attention to the game, just heard it was bad. I recently got a PS5 and gave it a try, and it completely blew me away.

I think the gameplay and AI is criminally underrated for this game since the entire focus is on the storyline. The way stalkers work in game and in general enemy encounters are so damn dynamic you will be always on your toes. Stalkers should be the seed for next generation AI design of stealth enemies. Amazing.

Anytime someone brings up this point I always wonder if they ever take into account what occurs BEFORE they enter the house with Abby’s crew. Because it seems to me it’s always (conveniently) ignored. People act like in the house, surrounded by Abby’s crew, is the first time they give their names. It isn’t.
Joel and Tommy rescue Abby. Abby works alongside them to help fight off numerous infected. They’re stuck in a dire situation in desperate need of escape. Tommy then proceeds to tell her their names and ask for hers.
Do you not think, all things considered, that this is a situation in which it’s acceptable and even useful to know each other’s names? Fighting alongside someone in a fight or die situation is a pretty quick way to gain each other’s trust. At least to a name knowing level I’d say.
It’s only AFTER this that she suggests going to the house where her crew are. If Joel and Tommy suddenly decide to lie about their names whilst there then Abby would have called them out.

It's also way fucking awesome. - This game will only age like fine wine once all the whiners drop off and more people pick it up.
It's not "the lesser sequel", it's an awesome sequel, much like "Uncharted 2" or something. And in turn, thát game was like the "Dark Knight" to its first part. - So yea, I'd argue "Part II" is like 'The Dark Knight', which definitely isn't perfect either. - I just get chills every time I think back of the game I spent nearly FIFTY hours with. - I also get nauseated, because damn is it dark and depressing. It makes the first game look cute. - But that also means that it made an impact.
I will add that it was overly praised in the awards world and whatnot... Or was it, I'm not so sure. - I just mean that it seemed like they were "overrating" it, while, at least for the VGAs, the audience votes went to 'Ghost of Tsushima'. - But I think "TLoU2" will stand the test of time more because of its story and unique approach. -'Ghost of Tsushima' just works because it's refreshing, received like "a better Assassin's Creed", with fun gameplay and a great world to go around it. Though, I haven't seen much praise for the story.
"TLoU2" gives you much more to think about, and many people don't appreciate it... yet.

I had a friend who loved TLOU, and read all about TLOU2 spoilers. He was livid and felt like they ruined the series. I didn't read the spoilers but I heard how mad everyone was. Played the game on Day 1 and didn't stop until I beat it. I told him how good it was, and basically had to persuade him to play it; then he loved it.

People call the game shit but it's basically the first game: main character losses someone they're very attached to, losses all emotion, pushes everyone close to them away, goes on a mission, and at the end changes their mind about actually finishing the mission. The only difference is the reason they change their mind

I feel like that’s an important difference 😂 I like the game, but I still feel like it doesn’t properly explain to the player why she doesn’t kill Abby, or foreshadow her choice. It still feels kind of out of nowhere, with everything pushing her to that place.

Too much of it felt like it came out of nowhere, that even if they have it written in some book as lore, it doesn’t translate to the audience.
Plus the cut levels show what they wanted to add, which would have foreshadowed it a lot better(especially the boar scene)

I just finished this 30 plus hour long adventure game having managed to, if not avoid spoilers, have no memory of the game beyond the E3 trailer. It was released at peak unvaccinated COVID times and I was busy working and my children who are growing had taken over the PS4.
With a week to myself and a PS5 acquired this past Christmas, I purchased the last of us part 2 and consumed it.
It was amazing.

Dunkey I beat the remastered version of this game today so I can finally watch the video. I think when you say Abby is like Joel in her adventure, it really nails what makes the game work. The idea of tearing down the players preconceptions of who is good or bad even when the underlying groundwork is the same really shines thru. Great video

Guys there’s actually a hidden ending where you unlock a feature that allows you play the entire game as Will Ferrell. In order to unlock this ending you must go into the Cheesecake Factory and ask the waiter for the “Ferrell Surprise.” Don’t let the developers know I told you this.

This game really highlights how stupid gamers are. There’s plenty of legitimate criticism for this game but Ellie being gay isn’t one. Abby being too masculine isn’t one. Joel dying isn’t one. @@jackjohn4156 the entire point of the game isn't to say that revenge is bad, but to show you how to move on with your life, instead of continuing a pointless and painful cycle of bloodshed just to make yourself feel better. ellie realises this after both she and abby have lost everything, and that the only way to move on was for both of them to just go. learning to moveon is the entire point of this story, and those that don't see that and a still salty about the game are too immature to understand how to grow.

@@xylan9543 You don't get it. Everytime someone goes after a revenge mission and commits violance they lost someone they love. Joel gets killed because he kills her father. When she kills Joel out of revenge she losts her beloved friends. Ellie loses Jesse and Tommy gets crippled. When Abby forgives her and show mercy everyhing becomes great after that. Ellie and Dina is living happily Tommy doesn't let go and she loses her wife. Ellie again doesn't let go but loses her fingers so she cannot play the guitar, the last memory and gift from Joel is gone because of her revenge quest.
She doesn't kill Abby because it is going to be a constant revenge chain and she ends it. Lev would have come after her if she had killed Abby.
Whole fucking idea of the game is revenge is not the solution and only brings destruction to people around you. Violance births violance. Killing Abby would change nothing and Ellie knew that. Abby is not a monster. You would have done the same thing if someone killed your father. But she suffers her consequences and doesn't deserve to die. If she dies, Ellie also needs to die so on and on

They disregard the build up, because most of them never actually played it. They just base their opinion off a playthrough of someone who went into the game wanting to hate it. Which always makes for a "fair" review.
I guess the main problem is that story is too mature, A Dumb teenager cant understand how raw, cruel and horrible is the actual world, and TLOU is more based in our world than it looks like.

Ah I see you didnt come across the alternate ending of last of us 2. It's normal to miss it, considering you have to find the little giraffe statue in the first level and proceed to place it on the alter in the last mission.
It was quite unexpected to have the giraffe god descend from the clouds and wipe out the fungus and bring peace back to humanity.

I put off playing this game for years until now (2023) because of all the negative feedback it got... and I'm sorry I was a sheep. Yes Joel dying is disappointing but the rest of the game is just perfect, good combat, good story, good characters, good graphics, good sound. I hope everyone plays it and isn't a sheep like me. If you spread the spaghetti out on a heat proof dish you can bake it until it becomes crispy. Then just add the bolognese and parmesan on top and bake for a few more minutes. It's really not that bad. Not as good as pizza but I can see why some people like spaghetti.

I grew up quite poor. We lived in the hills. In a place my brothers built from things they found. Metal sheeting, plywood. When it rained, it smelled like hay. We were always hungry. But there was a lucuma tree. Scrawny. Barely alive. My family had given up on it years before. Never bore fruit. When I was seven, I became fixated on it. I watered it, tended to it. It took a long time, but the buds grew into green fruit. I was so proud. I didn't tell anyone. I plucked one and hid behind our shack. I ate the whole thing, I'd never tasted something so sweet. It was like caramel. At first, we ate the fruit ourselves. And then I began taking it to the village to sell. One day, much of the fruit was gone from my tree. Pieces were scattered on the ground, half-eaten. I thought it was probably a The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog. Have you ever see one? About the size of a large house cat. Opportunists. I built a snare, using branches and wire. It didn't take long for the animal to set it off. But the The Last of Us 2 by Naughty Dog trashed so hard it broke out of the snare. Broke its leg as well. I tried to grab it, but it slipped away. It ran under the house. I knew it would show itself sooner or later. So I waited, for hours, into the night. When my brothers called for me, I did not answer. I didn't make a sound. I was so still. Finally, it came out. It knew I was there, but it was hungry. This time, I was ready. I caught it. It fought me, but I was stronger. The merciful thing would've been to kill it. I kept it. It lived for quite some time.
