      Hi, sorry for the delayed answer. I don't RUclips much and because of covid-19 I haven't had it monitored as normal.
      This job took me about 100 hours. But that's because none of my friends believed I install big garage doors alone. So I did it by myself. If I had my helper, we probably would have been done in 60 Hrs
      Pricing;
      To many variables. What is the home made of? 2x4 or 2x6 framing with vinyl siding the easiest. Then the size of the LVL. The size of the temperior wall you have to put up. Do you have to cut back cement? Also the size and quality of the garage door and motor. I would guess that just changing to an LVL, siding, coil stock, sheetrock and plaster, would probably be anywhere from $2500-$5000.

      @@ctdoorandtrimllc5536 Thank You for the reply! I gave up on this project because in Arkansas the price for this job on a 2x4 framed garage with no upstairs started at 10,000+ Ridiculous! No concrete work etc.

    how did you go about sizing your beams?

    • @ctdoorandtrimllc5536
      @ctdoorandtrimllc5536  4 года назад +1

      Very sorry for the very delayed response. I don't youtube much.
      Being that I know framing and garage doors. I immediately can tell what size garage door I can fit in a opening. I then give my lumber yard all the building information.(Size of garage, type of framing, size of roof rafters, ext) They work with the LVL companies engineer. I then get a print out from the engineer to give to the building inspector.

    I think is going to sag in time in the middle.

    • @ctdoorandtrimllc5536
      @ctdoorandtrimllc5536  Год назад

      You are absolutely wrong. The beam that is used is called a Microllam, LVL, it is engineered lumber. Many times stronger then conventional lumber. An engineer is giving all the information about the project. Some of which are the span of the opening, structure type with demotions, wall thickness and more. The engineer then calculates what size LVL is needed. As it comes in many widths and lengths.

    • @car9167
      @car9167 Год назад

      @@ctdoorandtrimllc5536 Maybe. The issue I have with my garage opening is that it's sagged about 3/4" in the middle. One reason might be the attic above the 2 car garage is used as storage and I think the beam was not designed for that or not a proper beam for the load was put in place. There is also brick on the house facade above garage and a lintel. Not sure how this can be fixed with all the bricks already in place. I really like the storage above the garage where I can put all the crap you don't need all the time

    Why, whats the motivation for this? Youre removing the expensive option and installing the cheap option. Ive wanted to do the opposite to both houses ive owned. Single doors would keep my wife parking on her side instead of the middle.

      Personal preference, for me I want to convert to one big door so that when I work on one of the cars, I center it in the middle for better access on both sides.

      I hate having a beam in the middle of my garage door. where I live (near Seattle) the garage doors are generally narrow and often because of the hills there is a retaining wall very close to one of the doors.
      At my current place (about to move) My driveway is very steep, has a retaining wall perpendicular to the side of one door and it’s just a pain to get a small SUV in there (bronco sport).
      Unless the single doors were wider and easier to enter, I’d rather not have it split.
