- In 2014 off the success of the Transformers franchise, Paramount and Nicolodeon decided to give him a shot at (producing) a brand new set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. This time adopting motion capture technology which allowed them to pay the actors next to nothing along with Megan Fox as April O'Niel this adventure is like nothing you've seen before! The treatment the actors for the turtles received is *shocking* . The fact that the studio deliberately chose to do everything in their power to underpay and undervalue the performers for the *title characters* is exactly the kind of reason why the SAG is striking.
Thank god it will be Michael bays last time directing this shit.

They promised top billings interviews and the works and the studios just doubled backed on their word because they can, if the stars said anything they would have been blacklisted. @griswoldclark6835 it wasnt just the pay. They treated the actors very poorly. Hours, rides, time in the suit, replaced one for no real reason for his voice and other stuff. The dude that plays Reacher talks about it in an interview.
Still concerning youd downplay clear shitty pay as basically getting a better agent.

My favorite versions of the TMNT are the 1990 film and the 2003 series. I feel that the TMNT are one of the few properties that can do many different tones in terms of presentation. Batman is another one that can be goofy, campy, serious, or dark.
Those are also my top two versions! You have great taste :D
I agree that TMNT is a property that can work in different tones/style. Wether it's the 80's cartoon, 1990 film, 2003 series, 2012 show, or Rise of the TMNT. I can recommend all of them for different reasons, as they all hold up. The 2012 show is my favorite, and Rise has some impressive animation and color, but I can also totally see 2003 being others favorite. You can't really go wrong with any of them, and that's a nice thing to be able to say about a property.
That was my childhood!! Had those movies in VHS...amazing. But I also just love anything TMNT, just like Batman, I'll watch it no matter what
TMNT 2014 holds a special place in my heart. It was the first movie I was really excited for and then I watched it and it was the first movie I walked out of the theater feeling disappointed

So the reason Splinter doesn't make sense with the ninja stuff, is because they're taking part of the story from the IDW comic, where they grew up in a testing facility. In the comic they are actually a reincarnated family from feudal Japan, Splinter/Hamato Yoshi, is their father and they're all brothers. So Splinter remembers ninjitsu from his past life. They left out the reincarnation angle and instead said he got a book a ninjitsu, which was ridiculous.

The reincarnation thing is far, far stupider. I don't like what they went with for the movie, but I am damn glad they didn't touch that awful reincarnation crap with a 45ft pole. It's just the dumbest backstory ever lol, what happened to the classic sewer + toxic waste accident story? That has always been the best original for TMNT.

I have, over 4 decades of reading, listening, and interviewing, I can't help but feel there is far more to it than ignorant people realize. Oh, but it doesn't fit into your extremely narrow perception of reality, so it's bs. Of course.
What I found really interesting about this movie is that during the early phases of development they were planning on changing the origin story of the Titular Turtles, in one of the rewrites the ooze was a naturally occurring resource that was mysteriously growing in the sewers, instead of a lab chemical. The movie was centered around exploiting this resource for good or evil, which is why the working title for the film was Goo Harvest.

I grew up on the animated classics but this movie felt like a classic ninja turtles movie to me at least... Even tho the original live action movies were something I grew up on and watched countless times, this movie still stuck with me, as well as the second one.. Not to mention the animated 2007 movie, which was my absolute favorite . Michael Bay not only met my expectations as a lifelong TMNT fan, but he exceeded them in every way. Granted when I watched this movie I was only a teenager but wasn't that the point? TMNT were MY heroes and seeing them in live action was something else, despite the poor effort of doing so..
You guys should cover the 2007 animated movie, I adore it but there’s some definitely some stuff to poke fun at but also it’s just super under appreciated, would be entertaining to watch
AMEN the scene when ralph and leo showdown in the rain still gives me goosebumps
I think my biggest gripe with the film is that Leo is pretty much a hypocrite whenever he talks with Raph, and some of the villians are a bit lackluster, but the other stuff is great. Raph steals the show.
I just binged all of the 2018 Rise TMNT over the weekend and let me tell you, coming from that vibrant world with stellar animation and delightful character design to this slimy lookin uncanny-valley filled nightmare is like being hit my a semi truck. The whiplash I am experiencing.

TMNT RISE is one of the best versions of the turtles and the fact it got canceled should be considered a war crime.
Fun fact: this was the worst theater experience of my life. First, the theater was packed, so we had to sit front row. I had to slump into the chair because my neck hurt after a while. Second, everyone else in the theater were kids and their families... Which means they were loud. Third, it wasn't a good movie (maybe nit as bad as I remember, but I was annoyed and uncomfortable). Fourth, the other guys I went with tried to convince me that it was good and I should enjoy it (one of my friends still does that with movies to this day).
The fact the turtle actors were mistreated only makes my not liking this feel vindicated.
I'd rather sit in a theater full of children having fun (within normal thresholds) over "adults" behaving in an inconsiderate entitled and obnoxious manner, which is one of many reasons I haven't been to a theater in ages and why my last several outings weren't positive experiences.

I had a deaf dude and a girl signing for him. Worst experience and the reason I haven’t gone to release day since. I get it. He’s deaf. But this man was making ungodly sloppy noisy breathing and eating on his popcorn. Make one of my triggers that sets me off now. Just heavy breathing and essentially moaning while scarfing down popcorn.

I saw this movie in theaters, i recently became a turtles fan and watched the old movies and loved them. I dont regret it despite it being a very mediocre entry of the franchise but it lead me to watching and reading even more entries of the franchise and i now went into mutant mayhem as an utter turtle fanatic

I am a life-long TMNT fan as I was in the perfect demographic when the original cartoon hit it big. When I finally got around to watching this version on streaming, I think I got about halfway in and decided I might watch the rest later. I think that was in 2019. Never finished it.
My biggest critique (aside from, you know, EVERYthing) is that while the 1990 film felt like a genuine New York, this version felt like Hollywood New York.

Did you know that the primary dye used for Leonardo's mask comes from indigo, which is primarily resourced from India. That's why the working title for these movies to be "blue harvest".

This would have been a perfect video for the world renowned “Green Trivia” with the guy screaming Rodney. Also, I don’t know if you guys knew this, but originally Michael Bay wanted to make the movie a Leonardo solo film, focusing on how he gets his signature Blue Bandana, the working title was “Blue Harvest” which coincidentally was the working title for Star Wars.

Mutant Mayhem is the best turtle movie BY FAR, and the 1989 movie is absolutely perfect, Mutant Mayhem is just THAT GOOD.

I love that whole show but something like s1 e13-16 or the triceraton/fugitoid story are fairly self contained.

Ironically enough with James calling the comic a “daredevil parody” the same chemical that blinded daredevil and gave him his abilities, gave the turtles theirs.
The Turtles also fight the Food Clan, whereas Daredevil fights The Hand.
I remember watching the one where they go to the future and don't have to hide cause everyone or at least the majority is a mutant. Great animation too. Used to be on kids wb on Saturday mornings

I'm glad you brought up how weird it was for Splinter to be interested in ninjutsu without having a background behind it prior to becoming a mutated rat.
As far as I am aware, Pete Ploszek who did Leonardo’s motion capture also recorded all the lines for him in the first film, but for whatever reason they dubbed over him at the last minute with Knoxville, who was then not asked back (as far as the internet informs me, but for all we know he could have actually refused) for the second film, which means that Leonardo is voiced by his motion capture actor, just like the others.
As far as I'm aware Megan Fox has 3 trans sons but America has .04% trans ppl meaning that she MADE them trans which is what's happening to tons of kids. Hence the neighbor saying he saw the one kid have a nervous breakdown and was demanding to stop being treated like a girl and to get him boy clothes.

I remember taking my son to this movie and he fell asleep. That was a pretty clear indication of the quality of the film.

Also in this movie, Splinter and Shredder know each other's names for no reason. There is no old grudge, they had never met before the scene where they fight, and yet in that scene they say eachother's names like they were old nemesises. I can maybe see Splinter learning about shredder, but no one told Shredder about Splinter. Splinter was just some rat in the sewer. Who mutated and trained 4 turtles.

But also, the studios screwing over the mo-cap guys is just so painfully on-brand that it doesn't even move the needle anymore. Makes it pretty damn clear why this strike is happening and highlights the need for every working group to unionize.
I hope everyone is paying attention to the strikes and the concessions they're getting. UPS reached an agreement with the teamsters to avoid a strike. The railworkers recently got concessions from their strike, though I dont like how that played out. John Deere workers went on strike a while back. Im anion member and I love my job. Great pay, benefits and conditions.
I love the "special" people that constantly believe anything anyone says just as it goes along with what they believe about something already....There is literally zero evidence beyond a story with believe me. There was zero actual evidence shown that the mo-cap actors were somehow "screwed". Nobody could even produce a paystub...But somehow "special" people instantly take it as fact cause hurrrrrr Hollywood/Michael Bay bad.

IDW, the 1990 film and 2003 animated series are my favourite incarnations.
Since the turtles are green and turtles are known for devouring grass, the working title of this movie was green harvest, which is similar to the working title of the original Star Wars, which was blue harvest

I maintain, under pain of torture, that the first of these movies is actually good. The original comics were parodies of the comics of their era, specific Daredevil. And this film feels like a parody of the comic book films of its era.
It's a backhanded compliment, but a compliment nonetheless.
A Caravan of Garbage "Toxic Avenger" marathon would be something to behold.
Of these two, I only saw Out of the Shadows, but it was a very memorable theater experience. Three of us from work were going to go see it, but then the other guy backed out, and the girl tried to spin it as a date, and it was very awkward because I was not interested in dating her.

Just saw Seth and Evans take on TMNT and loved it.
Funny thing about this one is they had a alternate version more similar to the original live action movie especially the end. Also in this version before they changed it they moved parts of the movie around. I could give more examples but one of the best I can point out is in the movie when raph asks him to tape his shell, that happened at a different point in the movie. Cause if u watch before that ever happens there's one or 2 scenes where raph already has the tape on his back

Apparently the stories behind the development of THESE TMNT movies turned out to be FAR MORE entertaining than the movies themselves! Well, apart from the Turtle actors suffering, THAT was far more disturbing than Mikey perving on Megan! (Which Mikey I'm referring to I'll let YOU decide!!!)
As a 40K fan, I just saw them as Space Marines and enjoyed the movies.
I appreciated these movies. The first was a solid first movie. The second had too much going but overall, these turtles are pretty good.

1:59 YEAH! someone else acknowledged the 2003 series! That one barely gets remembered and it's my favorite of the turtles.
Its not hard to figure out why....The 1987 series was the most successful of the cartoons and was on for over a decade. The 2003 series was kinda garbage only on for 5 seasons and 1 or 2 of them were god awful Fast Forward trash. Even the 2012 series was on longer than the 03 cartoon

A little tip:
Bringing the Ninja Turtles to life through via mascot costumes or CGI are both the wrongs ways to do it.
To pull off the Ninja Turtles:
It takes green body paint, turtle prosthetics (head, hands, feet, and shell), and four very agile and athletic stuntman who are around 5'1".

I absolutely LOATHE the direction that they've gone with (my favorite turtle) Raphael. He's gone from a moody John Lennon (that complimented Leo's straight laced leader Paul McCartney type) to some big meat-head oaf with a lame head scarf.
To complete the Turtles/Beatles analogy...Donatello is the quiet genius that is George Harrison & Michaelangelo is the party animal, Ringo, who just wants to bang on the drum all day.
