This time we get all the things kids loved from the 1987 series, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady, the Technodrome, Casey Jones and more! But it didn't land in the same way as the first. This Caravan of Garbage really touched my heart.
Edit: Actually never mind it was just a fart building up.
Gotta say, they could have easily made Bebop and Rocksteady victims and turned their transformation into a traumatic experience for them, but I LOVE that the film took it a different direction and had them embrace it and their joy really stole the movie.
I dunno why the director seemed confused that the movie did poorly. It's because of the first movie. A lot of people watched that and...didn't like it. You only see the effects of that with the next movie. So you're just seeing the effects of the first one take place.
Same with the Transformers movies, 5 did bad because it's bad but more importantly because of 4
I see someone finally escaped the prison that is being trapped between 2 pipes.
Same with Star Wars
Been watching your videos for over 6 years.
This. I filled my pockets with dreams and watched the first one. Then forgot the sequel existed. Watched Batman beat down Superman instead. Timing and expectations were big factors. The director probably doesn't want to outright admit that the 1st movie was bad.
James and Mason are the Bebop and Rocksteady of podcasting!
After all Mason is a pig rolling down a hill. 💀💀💀
@@bbrbbr-on2gd hahaha a got him! 😂
Pog
You lame bruh no cap
Nah, Bebop and Rocksteady are the James and Mason of…mutant…comic…villain…thugs…from the 80s.
I appreciate the realism in this movie. The fact that the 4 giant turtles covered their faces to hide their identities was a great touch
pretty sure nobody has ever thought it’s to hide their identities, pretyy clearly because they like being ninjas
@@mackmulhall7595 nah
That’s hilarious and your comment never got the appreciation it should’ve , sorry mate. Gave me a good laugh
Perfect timing to say you love Stephen Amell
💀💀💀
Why what happened
@@marvelousballhe said he didn't support the actors strike
@@marvelousballhe thinks that the actors striking is a waste of time and that it’s reductive
@NTWoo95 Because he's an idiot. Because there's nothing those workers can do for them to actually listen and implement what they want/need. Like a higher wage. But to strike. That's the only way they will listen. If they can, yknow, hold out.
"Would have been my favorite movie if I was 8 years old" is pretty much the exact sentiment I had after watching this.
You can say that about ANY of the TMNT movies tbh lol…. because for many fans, that’s what actually
Happened lol
I was 11 when it came out and I loved it
@@thedefinitionisthisI was 8 when TMNT III came out and I hated it. 😂
@@Peeps7468tmnt 3 is a guilty pleasure of mine along with Batman and Robin. I haven’t really liked any tmnt movie since 3
I may have been an overly judgy 8 year old. I think I *should* have liked it based on my interests at the time.
For what it’s worth, I watched the movie for the Rise of the TMNT show and really enjoyed it. Take care!!
Edit: Batman and Robin is a guilty pleasure of mine too. I really disliked Batman Forever, felt Batman Returns was strangely upsetting when I saw it (I was probably too young when I first watched it). Batman ‘89 and Batman and Robin though… I love them both but differently.
I love that they followed up the segment about accepting yourself for who you are in a healthy and productive way, by just ripping the gross ratman to shreds for being wet and having beady little rat eyes.
Good
Shredder without the shoulder pads looked so weird to me.
Wasn't he also rocking fake arm muscles cos it sure didnt look real.
I watched this in high school and I remember my friend told me about the reason Johnny Knoxville didn’t get brought back on. Apparently, while filming Bad Grampa, they had him chug fake porta-potty liquid. He drank WAY too much and it put him in the hospital and they had to pump his stomach. The result was so horrible, so extreme, with so much thrown up dyed toilet liquid in the room that one of the RN’s called it a “Blue Harvest,” which coincidentally was the working title of the first Star Wars.
I hate you so much because I read that whole thing
Lmao!! NOICE JOB!!! That was expertly done!🫡🤣
*golf clap*
you sure showed these geriatric Australians!
Damn you, take your goddamn 👍🏽
17:25 Does no studio exec ever think if you make a movie, and it does well based on the hype, makes most of its money in like the first 3 weeks and isn't reviewed well, that a sequel failing isn't just a "you won't fool me twice" situation? The first movie people expected/hoped for it to be good. The second...well they'd learned from how good the first one wasn't.
The hype for the first movie was almost exclusively bad. The leaked script and Bay telling fans to chill about it being different garnered nothing but negative attention. The second one was an attempt to give people the things they wanted the first go around. A lot of people dont know but these movies were test beds for all the CGI and stuff so the studio already has the technology on hand and cheap for other movies. Which means it didnt really matter if these failed because most of their budget would be recooped with subsequent use of the technology.
Probably because before the Last Knight, Bayformers kept making money, despite being terrible.
Now I want to watch this movie just for the Bebop and Rocksteady friendship. I love when villains have wholesome and supportive relationships.
I'm glad they brought bebop, rocksteady and casey in this movie,i wish krang had more screen time,he seemed shoved in last minute.
@@justinarzola4584 This entire movie was "shoved in at the last minute."
I saw it. Captures the old bonkers Saturday cartoon feel pretty well. It's way better than Bay's version, not that that's hard. Bebop and Rocksteady are the best thing in the movie.
@@Maladjesterthis is also Bays version
I agree that Shredder and Krang should’ve had more interactions
Leave it to James to miss the only opportunity where Green Trivia makes sense😭😭
For real!!! @mrsundaymovies
17:30 This sounds to me like a classic case of "the bad movie made a lot of money because it was a recognized property and/or a sequel to a good movie, then the better sequel to the bad movie made less money because the previous one was bad".
Fun fact, in the first draft of the trivia segment for this video, James included a part where he listed the hexadecimal codes for each turtle's respective shade of green. It got cut for time, but it led to the trivia segment having the working title of green trivia
I liked when Krang said “I Krang here to kick ass and look like bubble gum, and I’m all out of ass.”
Underrated comment
And then he said "It's Krangin' time!" and Kranged all over everyone.
🤣
While neither one of the Michael bay-produced Turtles films were anything exceptional I do have to admit that out of the Shadows really did take a lot of inspiration from the 87 cartoon and it was really cool to see Krang, Baxter stockmann, and Bebop & Rocksteady on the big-screen even if they weren't done that well.
Love Bebop and Rocksteady
@@claymathewselevator8121
Yeah they really are iconic.
@@bigkmoviesandgamesmy favorite version of them was the 2012 cartoon.
@@justinarzola4584 yeah that's a really good show. Thankfully most of the Turtles TV shows have been pretty solid.
Casey being a cop and not a vigilante makes so much more sense in light of recent revelations surrounding Stephen Amell
This really is the worst version of Casey. I loved him in the 90’s movies.
I enjoy the Arrowverse, but I always feel like Amell is trying to coax me to buy skinny jeans at a Banana Republic. Casey needs more grunge and insanity.
@@danielnugent6545 Could not have said it better myself.
@@danielnugent6545casey being pretty much a psychopath in the original series was a weird thing for me to find out since as a 90's kid my original interpretations of the turtles were the 90's movies , the bad live action tv series that crossed over with power rangers, and tmnt 2003 series(which i heavily suggest as its probably the best animated adaptation)
What are these recent revelations?
Bebop and Rocksteady were hands down the best part of the movie.
They actually record all these in a court of law because between episodes James spends his time petitioning judges to strip families of dead police officers of their loved one’s pension for as he says in this video “not doing anything” returning the families to a subsistence level of poverty where some even have to grow their own food in order to survive, the combination of the return to farming and “boys in blue” colloquial name for the police has lead to his collective views on the subject being nicknamed “Blue Harvest” which incidentally was the original title for Star Wars
Womp Womp
Too obvious. Don’t try again though
Unlike “Man Who Yells Rodney!?!” or “Green Trivia”, this will never die. All hail the Blue Harvest joke, lol.
I love that out of all the things in 2016 (Hillary choked it, Golden State Warriors choked it, the Falcons choked it) Maso just remembers Batman V Superman and Slapbands
Pokémon Go
Honestly the editing is out of this world. So much props x
That "wave at the plot" was some GREAT animation and editing by Ben or whoever did it. Impressive camera whip (or perceived whip) that adds so much to the energy
Can't wait for another installment of Masons out of Context take on Star Wars Animated Shows.
Terrific.
Bebop and Rocksteady were the best thing in the movie. Living dump trucks: huge, impossibly strong, dumb, loud, ugly, hard to stop, and most importantly, just reveling in being exactly what they were. Chef's kiss ♥♥
I think the second movie's huge underperformance is what Scott Mendelson calls the "Fool me once" factor. While some franchises like Transformers and and Fast and Furious can get aways with not being critically acclaimed long term, most of the time movies with bad reviews do see major dropoffs for the follow-up, even if they're widely considered better. Sometimes especially. Adding the more nostalgic elements might have helped if the first movie was considered better, or more faithful to previous TMNT media
Their love of Bebop and Rocksteady's bromance makes me happy
I like the part where Casey Jones said "I do not support striking. I don't. I think that it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating." and then did his Casey Jones thing.
You may have already said this; Bepop is played by Gary Anthony Williams who was in Malcolm in the Middle as Abe, and was in The Dark Knight Returns (parts one and two) as the Mutant Leader
As someone who has met nearly every person from Mirage Comics I can say that I'm 99% sure that Kevin Eastman was the only one to appear. So those were just regular looking extras.
Despite this movie’s reception, this is a guilty pleasure of mine. I really like rewatching this one. They fixed a lot of things fans disliked from the first movie and we finally got to see Bebop and Rocksteady come to life.
Honestly of the two movies this was my favorite. They really leaned into the mutants and weird shit on this one.
This movie had all the earmarks of every 80's baby contemporary TMNT film dream movie. Bee-Bop and , Rock Steady (FINALLY), Krang, The Technodrome, The Turtle Van and still managed to somehow fail horribly. The fact that Shredder didn't become "SHREDDER" until like the very tail end of the film and was killed IMMEDIATELY before doing any Shredder stuff was just the ultimate slap in the face. I personally had high hopes for this movie but was let down big time. I do feel like, if you were 8 years old and it's your first time taking in the TMNT, you probably really enjoyed this film.
2:15 I’m gonna call Deandre Jordan a “presumably real basketball player” from now on
Bepop and Rocksteady are the highlight of this movie, their friendship is so adorable and likable
I honestly think this film underperformed because the first film poisoned the well. People ran out for the first film because it was the first to actually mo cap the Turtles and fans were willing to give it a chance but most walked away beyond disappointed. This happens a lot, 1st film gets interest because it’s new but is not good and then the second one comes around possibly better/well received but audiences aren’t willing to risk it.
@@Carloszavalalolthis is the answer
@@Carloszavalalol not financially. But most of that was within the first few weeks. Then people realized it was bad. Nothing about the movie was like an Avengers where you say, "wow! I can't wait to see where this goes in the next one!"
I feel like Sonic kind of broke this trend, with the second one actually being more successful than the first.
@@crikeybaguette4564 There was a number of people that actually liked the first Sonic film though. That first Turtles film was lambasted when it came out, Sonic was way more embraced, especially once they listened to the fans about Sonics character design and redesigned it.
@@langleymneelyI was worried that Sonic 2 ruined the magic because the dance part in Russia really turned me off. Honestly, the movie started off a bit slow, and didn't grab me the way the first one did. I stopped watching after about 15 minutes and only forced myself to give it another go after I kept seeing all of this praise for it. So yeah, word of mouth matters. Turns out despite the slow start, I enjoyed the sequel more than the first.
Don't we all just want a big rhino buddy who accepts us for who we are?
Fuck yeah
Especially when he's Sheamus from the WWE
9:21 This edit is too good. Ben & Laurence, you've done it again
Fun fact: its been over four months of me saying James is Old every video. Round of applause for James being even more old now
respect the dedication bro
I'll put $100 on him getting EVEN OLDER by the next video.
Props to James for being 55 and keeping up with all those Tom Cruise stunts.
@@bunkbeds3001 what I have written here is that James will be 12 months older this time next year.
You are going to eat your words the day they release that Last Airbender video they have not released for almost 4 years for some reason. 😤
Beebop and Rocksteady are such good inclusions 😂 loveddd them! Casey Jones is literally just Stephen Amell 😅 at first I had no idea it was supposed to be Casey then it’s just like oh yeah this must be him! And literally 8:28
I can't prove this, but I'm 100% sure Stephen Amell requested Casey Jones be a cop.
I always considered James and Maso the Rocksteady and Beebop of movie podcasters.
The editor of CoG is fantastic. Just a phenomenal job
It’s ironic that Steven Amell doesn’t support the SAG-AFTRA Strike despite being in this film, which was notorious for the mistreatment of its main actors and crew.
To be "notorious" for something, its generally backed up and proven to be FACT....When its just one person, who put forth zero evidence beyond "believe me" its the opposite of notorious.. Its literally one person, who sounds butthurt who didn't even have like a paystub to prove anything and was backed up by zero other people.
So
The way they edited James and Maso waving at the plot was so smooth. Yall really out-do yourselves and the visuals enhance the video so much.
I love that they are called hypercolor t-shirts. We call them Da-Glo or Day-glow in America (at least that's what I always called them) but hypercolor sounds cooler lol
I remember hypercolor as a dye that exaggerates, maybe even *embelilishes* the sweat stains on your shirt.
This movie looks unironically fun
Excuse me? Clooney's first hit at 38?! Bro, he lived in the Facts of Life girls' attic and his mullet was GLORIOUS!
Leonardo has a blue mask in this and they love pizza which features things that are grown...which gave it the working name of Blue Harvest
I often watch these in the morning in the shower. So just everyone know I'm naked.
Shower buddies
It’s ok I’m on the toilet.
Oh my, our love for top tier movie commentary, cleanliness and nudity has brought us together Brothers
That balding cop also plays a cop in The Avengers - he asks Cap "Why the hell should I take orders from you?" before Steve does his thing and the cop gives in immediately lol
I love Stephen Amell and at the time this was made I was an avid follower of his Facebook page. He was so excited and passionate about this movie and after filming wrapped he made a lengthy post, thanking everyone involved by name, including the crew.
That being said, when I saw the movie at the cinema and he said, "I'm going to be a detective some day!" I cringed so hard. His heart was in it, but whether it be the writing, direction, editing or just his acting choices, he didn't quite sell it as Casey.
The movie is still pretty fun though.
I got really emotional watching this Caravan of Courage but then I realised it was just a fart bubbling up.
Funny that you put Matt Murdock's origin story in this video, when I believe the creators of the TMNT confirmed that the same accident that gave Matt his blindness was the same that turned the turtles into mutants!
It’s so much more fun when bad guys genuinely like each other. You can want to take over the world, but still really be there for your mates 😂
Tyler Perry as Baxter Stockman is actually really good casting.
man funny how few days can ruin the phrase "I love Stephen Amell"
Wrong
We loved making the movie, obliviously that guy never talked to Alan Ritchson 😂
Stephen amell opinions may have recently changed 😂
3:58 For a split second here, I genuinely thought this episode was going to switch itself up and become about the Snake Eyes movie (ala when they said they were going to do Batman Begins and did Twilight instead).
This and the newest Transformers movie had similar plot about finding some space key or something in a New York museum 😂
I genuinely enjoyed this TMNT film. Growing up with the 2003 turtles and playing with the toys based on the 80's turtles it was a nice nostalgia fest and quite fun. I have some gripes but was all around a fun/ entertaining film. Better than the first by far...lol.
My first live Mr Sunday video, I feel honored
i think a lot of people went to the first movie cause it was exciting to see what a live action ninja turtle movie would be like.... but after seeing how bad it was, less people cared for the second one. I didn't go see the second one, but this review has actually made me want to go see it now.
It’s on Netflix
Man, just gotta say I've been listening to The Weekly Planet for so many years now and it makes me so happy that you boys are not just still at it, but better than ever.
The thing about Casey here is like, he's a cop. He's driving a frikkin' transfer van down a NY road,is there seriously no point at which none of that is caught by camera or witnesses? The convoy, it ACTIVELY gets blown up, the cars are clearly exploded all over the road, the cons are gone, he's got a driver accompanying him as a witness.
Yeah, what he's saying is crazy, but how is it that he is not believed? He's not some journalist looking for a story, he's a 38-year-old Officer giving a witness statement on the cons he was chosen to move. At the least, the others would be looking into what happened, which would include having police cars being exploded, with their drivers surely in hospital - or in the morgue, which is hard to fake.
"I wanna be a detective! I wanna be a detective!"
"Dude, you're 38. You could be a detective."
The Shredder actor was in Jurassic World and an episode of Agents Of Shield
And Fast & Furious
You could say that Shredder and Krang are THE ORIGINAL ODD COUPLE 💑
Watching this. I got to the part talking about the switch on the side of the device and the finesse, when it was interrupted by an advert for Switch Bikes. I initially thought it was a bit, like a classic garbage cut away gag...
My theory as to why this movie underperformed: with the first movie, there was a genuine curiosity from audiences regarding how the movie was gonna turn out; even though the general consensus from the trailers was that it looked bad, people were curious to see it. With the second movie, now that audiences had seen the first movie and not liked it, that curiosity wasn't there anymore, despite the fact that it is at least somewhat better than its predecessor
James loves Stephen Amell who hates the strikes. James doesn't support the strikes. Confirmed
Hey wait!
@@mrsundaymoviesI heard you thought Hitler's painting weren't half bad! I knew you were a fascist from the beginning!
James also loves Harrison Ford, therefore James loves crashing planes.
Logic!
True story. First turtle movie. Mom took me and my lil brother. He was 5 at the time. Soon as splinter came on, he hollered like someone was trying to kill him. We had to leave. Eventually saw it on VHS.
Fun fact: the working title of Out of the Shadows was actually "Blue Harvest"
Judith Hoag filmed a cameo (she was April in the 90s) but it got cut for time. It's in the DVD extras, though!
"You can have two emotions at once." 😂
Having just watched Mutant Mayhem, it's absolutely bonkers to go back to these and realize how many people in charge of making this movie actually thought these turtle designs were good. They're just the ugliest freaks ever put on celluloid and I know the original comic turtles were kinda rough around the edges, but I just couldn't sit through TWO movies with these turtles looking the way they do. Woof.
I absolutely hate their faces. They look more like frogs.
You guys should definitely do Ashokas arc from the end of season 5 of clone wars seeing as how the Ashoka show is coming out
The movie overall was pretty exuberant to watch, but my question is where was the ninja rap?
Bebop and Rocksteady are the original odd couple
2:09-2:16 didn’t even remember Deandre Jordan was in this movie
These movies are literally just amazing Spider-Man 1&2
I’m surprised there was no mention in how Tyler Perry’s Baxter was a clear homage to Neil deGrasse Tyson. I thought he was great.
LOL! @10:39 ....I saw/heard what you did there, James!
I think that was him! One of the Greg at things about this show is the boys adding to each other’s bits! Makes it all feel alive!
I just realized how much Stephen Amell as Casey Jones looks like Chris O'Donnell as Robin.
james and maso in the next tmnt reboot as bebop and rocksteady
They should do Batman vs TMNT - The best Turtles movie!
Mason mentioned in the last video that he knew he saw this one, but forgot he saw the first one. For me it's the other way around. I remember the first one vividly, but can't even remember if I've seen this one even though I'm 90% sure that I did.
The scene where they get shredder out of the prison truck was filmed in buffalo ny where I live, and that street I literally drove with my mom to my dads work like once a week for a decade. I remember seeing it in theaters, and the whole theater cheered when the sequence started cuz everyone used that highway, and it was shut down for days, it was a big deal. There’s my local reference.
The Stephen Amell love definitely doesn’t backfire
I can't believe they did a bit where James berated Mason for taking the trivia for granted and DIDN'T say he was trivializing it 🤦♂️
I do want a 3rd movie lol 😂 late 2010s was the Duology era
Presumably real famous basketball player absolutely got me haha.
Can’t forget that Casey only used the mask ONCE
Also Shredder never ask what Krang is and he instantly agrees with Krang’s plan.
One thing I know about you is that no matter what else happens, you always do a thing related to an other thing that is about to come out soon. You never talk about a thing that's not related to a thing that is about to come out.
second Caravan of Garbage where I shall request the boys cover Curse of the Black Pearl for the show
leave a like on the video if you havnt, but why wouldnt you
I realize how much I miss Elias Koteas as Casey Jones from the 1990 film upon watching this review.
Really rough time to come out in support of Stephen Amell
One thing I really like about the movie is that even though it's cg, because of the leads being green skinned turtles, they were having trouble with green screen and had to resort to blue screens. Which lead to the working title
Really, I thought it was blue harvest?
@@thepeps101 which is the same working title as Star wars
