    • @SteelRhinoXpress
      @SteelRhinoXpress 6 лет назад +5

      why? the ryzen name due to how good the cpu zen arch is succeeds the phenom name in popularity now. it would be diff if they reused the phenom name for the zen arch that replaced the fx series based on the underwhelming bulldozer arch, but it's too late for that now. that would be like intel replacing the core i series name and calling their next gen cpu pentium 5 series.

    The first system I ever built was a Phenom 9500 with CPU/Heat sink & Fan, motherboard with 4 gb ram, 500 gb hard drive, dvd, 9600 GT, case and power supply for $483.00. This was back in 2008 when comparable OEM machines cost close to if not over $1000.00 for comparable specs(using intel CPUs of course). I have a soft spot in my heart for the original Phenom. I know the video is about the Phenom II but the name brought back memories.

    Very good video! I played GTA V with a Phenom ii X4 965 at stock speeds (since Idk about proper overclocking), with 12 gb ram and a gtx 950, and I noticed that with prolonged gameplay, the world would lag behind immensely with rendering, especially when driving at higher speeds. It was still a solid cpu though.

    back in 2006 I was rocking a Dell XPS that had a Pentium 4 CPU and a Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT. I'll never forget loading up half-life for the first time with it compared to my initial experience from my IBM Aptiva with Windows 95 back when the game launched late 1999. The game played more like a slideshow and I actually adapted to it. Just had to settle with what I had

      F2F Tech But clock per clock Phenom is way much faster than any FX shitty cpu, FX doesn't has all cores, it has 50% cores and 50% cluster thread, so software "see thread as core"... Try Black Edition Phenom ii x4 or X6, overclock to 4.2-4.4 ghz it will wipe out floor with FX 8370... I would never took FX cpu even if is free...

    Funny video. My main computer it's a Phenom II X555 black edition (2 cores with a third one unlocked) with this same motherboard and 8 gb of ram kingston hyperX. I have overclocked it at 4,15 ghz and have been running it at that speed for years (I encountered the same problem with overclocking the ram. I can't do it at all). Up until this year I have been using it with a Ati radeon 6790 of 1 gb. Currently I brought a radeon X580.
    So far I haven't got the need (well, and neither the money) to buy a newer computer, however this one runs pretty fine. Playing mostly World of tanks/warships and I have been playing WOlfestein the new order. However I got the same problem adressed in the video about the lack of instructions. I started to use 3ds max with Arnold render and Arnold flatly rehuses to run because the processor lacks SSE 4.1 instructions. I need to use an emulator of SSE 4.1 and 4.2 instructions, however, althought it runs, it's slow as hell (takes X8 times longer to do a render in arnold than a similar processor with SSE 4.1)

      I ran the 1100t BE on an Asus crosshair 4 formula even at 3.9 GHz oc.

      Have you tried over-clocking it? As far as I understand it has a decent margin not only for over-clocking but also for under-volting.
      The rig I built my friend has this CPU and whilst I didn't have the time to over-clock it I did manage to set the vCore at 1.20v. It runs extremely very cool even on stock. One thing I hated about it thought was how noisy the stock fan was..under-volting and lowering the fan voltage in the BIOS changed to this from a noisy inconvenience to something that was quiet, even under load.
      The other thing I felt could be improved was the hard drive..it really needs replacing with an SSD.
      But this little rig started out with a dual-core and 2 GB RAM and ended up with 6 cores and 4 GB, all for a really good price. It is used extensively for a wide variety of tasks, is rock-stable, and can still do well in highly-threaded apps.

    I'm very happy with the results, the only real drawback is that i'm forced to use Windows 7 in order to keep best driver compatibility and the GPU Drivers & Overall controls are a bit dated... but that's all, in fact its quite usable for today's mobas and MMORPG, i'm using it on World of Tanks, World of Warships and Eve Online... not a problem

      I consider medium gaming games like Doom and Fallout 4 which aren’t too demanding. A phenom x4 is even a bottleneck in Cs:go

      "medium gaming games" - Doom 2016 is arguably one of the best looking games of the last 2 years.
      Also, the a phenom ii x4 can mange over 120fps in CS:GO, which i personally consider to be sufficient. I play with locked 144 myself.

      Oh yeah for sure, I made a computer with a phenom II X4 955BE for my parents and with a SSD it definitely meets my requirements for how I want a pc to work, the cooling leaves much to be desired but it had to be done with the parts I had available so I put a sempron heatsink on there with a 90MM fan ( a bit to big, but I tied it almost on the cooler with a bunch of stuff) and it did cut the temperatures by like 20 degrees in comparison to the stock cooling it had.
      It's definitely a lot louder to be fair but also faster and more stable.

    I have an AMD Phenom 9650 Black edition (???) and a Phenom 9850 Black Edition (2,5GHz Quad Core) still in use today (Never been over clocked). The 9650 is my "Daily Commuter" and desktop Pc which I use for every day usage and some games like Battlefield 4 and the occasional StarCraft II game when I'm bored, and this runs nicely with my old NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
    with no noticeable artifacting (Bought this card such a long time ago, I think it is a 512MB, 256bit?!?!?!).
    I've never really bothered benchmarking the setup, so I have no idea what the frame rates are, but I know it still runs all the games I play smoothly, with Battlefield still giving fps at around 39 on medium settings.
    My Phenom 9850 I use for my gaming weekends and has the EVGA GTX580 GPU in it which is a 1.5GB card if I'm not mistaken (Also begging to be upgraded).
    Trust me, I have been wanting to upgrade for a while now as I've resorted to using 2 x PSU's in the 9850....... Using 1 for the motherboard and drives etc and the other just for the GPU in order for it to work properly as the PSU that I had in the case burnt out a while back (Even before I got the GTX580).
    All in all, I would say I've had the 2 cases now since the Phenom Black Editions were released, so, not entirely sure when that was, but I know it's been way too long LoL, and they have Really given me my money's worth.
    When I retire them one day, they will go to my folks with new hard drives and a clean install of windows, as they would most likely use them to run process intensive programs like Spider Solitaire, RUclips, KODI and the likes, so it would be like putting a "Horse out to pasture" for the Pc's 🤷🤷🤷

      Tbh AMD's arch from back then on a 14nm node with SMT would be interesting since it was beastly back then and still is, but I reckon a die shrink to 14nm and adding SMT to their arch for Phenom II would give ryzen and intel's current offerings a run for their money.

    Why do you overclock northbridge and HT? What are they responsible for? I don't see why bumping them would improve performance.

    • @bobsagget823
      @bobsagget823 6 лет назад

      Figured it out.
      Northbridge is on-die between the CPU cores, the CPU-NB frequency is equivalent to uncore and OCing it will yield performance.
      Hypertransport link between CPU die and chipset so it literally does nothing. Raising HT gives zero performance benefit.

I think I payed $130 for the 1050ti right before the big crypto currency mining disaster. And $20 for a coolermaster cooler. So around $250 for a pc that will outperform most $400-600 store bought pcs isn’t bad.

    Overall great video! All done clever and deatailed as much as possible.
    But i have noticed a thing with your mic. You are using condenser mic and sometimes i can hear some kind of parasitic noise, it sounds like some fluid in the mouth. It happens sometimes. Maybe decreasing a gain level on the mic will help you(and increase a voice volume level to compensate volume drop).Thank you for the nice video! Especially if you take a look at the whole youtube garbage and compare to your well made job.

      Audio-technica`s site said it is a dynamic mic....
      I'm not shure, but i guess it is a overall issue when you put too much gain on the mic. I didn't notice the same 'noise' when listened records done by professional musicians using a dynamic mics from Shure. it wasn't a usb mic and other equipment was quite a bit different. And i still think it is high gain level.

    Why to got so low oc? Nb? Ht? I am about 4.1ghz in 1.43volts 100% stable with 3000nb/3000ht,everything above these needs a lot of voltage such as 1.67volts for 4.6.... and 1.57 for 4.45....

    • @Face2FaceHardware
      @Face2FaceHardware  6 лет назад

      This is a 2nd stepping chip, they don’t OC as well as the 3rd. I needed 1.49-1.50 just to hit 3.9GHz, and even then it wasn’t stable. There is no reason to run your HT at anything higher than 2000. North Bridge is where it’s at. 2600 is the best I could do at the time, but I have some more playing to do. Also, the IMC could be holding it back.

    You should have tested the II x4 965 and also when testing old or weak processors you should consider testing with an AMD gpu and an Nvidia equivalent for DX11 games.
    The drivers from AMD put more stress on the CPU than those from Nvidia. Digital Foundry said something about driver overhead on DX11 titles.

The system is very responsive due to its two level caching (kind of StoreMI); memory 3GB and SDD 100GB.
