That heartwarming scene of Joe and Sarah in the bunker is a second for me. The way the two just click feels so natural. Especially when they're just eating MREs. So wholesome.
Probably my favorite joke in this whole show is when we cut to that man cleaning the tables in the restaurant. The audience has never seen this man before or since. But hearing Joe ask to hear the song again, the man goes "C'mon, Joey." He's fully aware that this is the kind of thing Joe Pera does. We don't know that man, but he knows our good friend Joe Pera well. Perfect small town scenario.
Not to mention the radio host who, very clearly, states the name of the song and band to intentionally not make it 'into an Abbott & Costello' routine. He too, knows how Joe is going to respond. Also, I was like Joe when I discovered Eminence Front.
Seeing someone as pure and innocent as Joe Pera discover the thrill and spirit of rock n roll makes my heart sing!! He even made a friend through rock n roll!! I know its a character but I'm so happy for him!!

I've probably watched this clip 20 times and sent it to people who may have gotten nothing out of it... But honestly it makes me smile so hard and almost feel like I'm gonna cry at the same time. On top of being a huge fan of pretty much anything Joe Pera does, I also have a very distinct memory of the first time I heard this song on the radio as a kid. I had my in-progress "mixtape" cassette in my tape recorder and would sit by the radio waiting for the song to come on so I could hit record. I remember yelling about them announcing the songs afterwards instead of before they play them... And indeed calling in to request that they play the song.

Pretty strange a show like this would get green lit on Adult Swim of all places, and especially in the “OK Boomer” era. This is the type of guy people from my generation make fun of. In the brief span of 5 minutes, Joe's personality goes from that of an 88 year old to a 6 year old, like watching The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at over 30x speed...
This clip brings me so much joy. For one, I used to be a major fan of The Who so this is spot on, and secondly, this is just extremely wholesome in every way possible. Joe picking up his dog who is rather bewildered as to what's going on and having a good time with him? Super wholesome. Joe inviting the pizza delivery guy inside to show him a song that he just discovered and absolutely loves? Extremely wholesome. The dog eating the pizza? Wholesome and hilarious. I think I enjoy this clip so much for all of these reasons and also because it reminds us to enjoy the simple things, like how amazing it is the first time you hear a song that you love. I find it hard to think about the positive things in my life sometimes when things get rough, and Joe here just reminds me that there is a lot out there to smile about and have fun with. It's really the small things that can bring you happiness and I think that's beautiful.
