His character isn't much different from his normal personality. He just acts a bit more like an old man when he's in character but it's not like a huge difference.
I just love how he's only 34 but has the disposition and delivery a pleasant midwestern man in his 70s, sitting on his porch and will talk to anyone about mundane daily life for hours with subtle dry humor and it's always so heartwarming and refreshing.

Absolutely. The problem was that Season 3 didn't get even a third of the ratings of the first two seasons. Not sure what happened. It was such a well-crafted show that made you laugh without making you feel as though you were looking down on anyone. It was also just really pleasant overall, and in a way that didn't seem contrived. Entirely unique. Might be studied in film classes in the future.
Some people don't understand Joe Pera. Some comedians are inspired by beer, some weed, Joe is inspired by absurdly underwhelming humor. He is the most rebellious comedian I can think of. @backyardbread I don't think it was scripted. Seth switches to reading from a script when announcing the tour dates at the end. Definitely this gimmick interview was loosely planned, probably with a pre-interview, but I think many of Seth's questions, such as what the movie's budget would be and how audiences will react, were ones Joe had to improvise for. Even if it were scripted, though, that doesn't negate what the OP was saying about giving space. :-)
