    This is a FANTASTIC video! I'm headed to the BWCA for my first trip in two weeks. I'm spending 11 nights, 12 days out there doing a loop from Sawbill up to Little Sag then down to Cherokee. Around 90 miles. Should be a blast. You have a great setup! Subbed. 1:04:00 WOW!!!!

    A tip on using double bladed paddle. the object is to keep as much of the blade in the water as possible. You are holding the paddle with the longest point entering the water first. it should be the other way around also the length of a kayak pedal when used for a canoeis usually quite a bit longer than what it looks like you are using. With a longer paddle, you have a more relaxed stroke with less splashing. Usually much drier for the Paddler too.

      Yeah I would just grab paddle and go not knowing there was a top and a bottom. I had someone else let me know. I have a 260 cm paddle and I’m not tall. I also don’t get wet. Thanks for the heads up 👍

    We stayed at that site below Basswood on June 9 and 10. Never had a better feeling than coming out of that Canadian portage and seeing that great site open after a very long day of paddling. Fun reliving our trip and seeing that big stump we used to split wood and remembering the great times we had there. We took the long way around through Fourtown because everyone told us the route you took through tin can Mike was too tough. It didn’t look a whole lot tougher than that awful portage between Fourtown and Mudro, but I know video can be very deceptive. Thanks for sharing, great video.

    We were at the end of the Echo Trail after fishing opener. Gotta work on that single portage my friend so you take a dog or 2! They don't want us double portaging anymore leaving the food packs out of sight. Bears are stealing food at portages I guess. I did some kayak racing back in the day you're paddling with your paddle upside down. Glad you had a fun trip the Canadian border is one of my favorite spots in the BWCAW 👌

    • @CommonManCamps-dz6ur
      @CommonManCamps-dz6ur  2 месяца назад +2

      I don’t think I’ll ever be able to single portage. I do have all my food in bear vaults so I’m following the new rule. As far as the kayak paddle I never realized there was a top and bottom. I guess I would just grab it and go not knowing. Now I do so thank you.

      Doing that portage with an aluminum canoe and a pack wouldn’t be fun. When I first started going to the BWCA I would carry my father in laws light weight Grumman which was like 74 pounds. Can’t imagine caring that on that portage. So glad there’s Kevlar canoes now. Thanks again 👍

    Nice video. How did you keep the leeches alive doing all that paddling and portaging? Did you have them in oxygen for awhile? You didn't fish until Day 3, so I was curious how you carried them with you in the leech bucket?

    • @CommonManCamps-dz6ur
      @CommonManCamps-dz6ur  2 месяца назад

      I just kept them in the leach locker in the lake. If I’d go to a new lake, I would drain the leach locker and then refill it and just carry it on the portages. I’ve never had problems keeping leeches alive unless it’s very hot out. Thanks for watching hope you enjoyed it👍
