Watching your RUclips video on my TV but have to comment on my phone. Awesome to see a young couple living their dreams. Someday I'm hoping to get up right but rite now taking care of my mom with Alzheimer's and babysitting 2 grandkids full time. Watching videos like this is my relaxing time.
Think I've mentioned it before on one of your other videos. Maybe not. But you and Corey could get yourselves a Thermacell. Can get them for about $20-25 bucks at Walmart. Kind of looks like a beefy tv remote. It's got butane cartridges that go in the bottom. Then these blue pads. You flip the switch on, press the button until the little heat filament lights up. That'll heat the pad. Takes a few minutes and the thing will create approximately a 15' barrier that'll keep mosquitos away. The pads & butane cartridges are supposed to last about 4 hours. We can usually get more than that out of them. Lot of times, once the blue pad goes almost completely pale, you can flip it over and get a few more hours out of it. I have friends that hunt, fish and camp in the deepest woods in Canada and won't go out without a Thermacell. They work great, but if it's good and breezy, it's fairly useless. But, almost everyone I've shown them to and we've used it at get togethers has been impressed enough to go get one.
Yes! We do have a Thermacell. We do use it and like it. On this trip we pre-treated all clothing with permethrin, wore bug nets, sprayed 25% deet bug spray daily, and ran our thermacell when sitting outside at camp. With all of that, we found bugs to be manageable. Except those pesky mayflies. Hah I agree about the Thermacell. I think it is great!
@jodimiddendorf how busy is the BWCA around the 4th of July? I'm considering a last-minute trip for that week, but am worried it'll be super crowded. But there are quite a few available permits so maybe not?
In the past it has been super busy around that time. At least on the Grand Marais side. But if you take a permit on a lake with lots of available permits you might have a quiet experience!
Props to you! Been watching your vids preparing for my first trip in 30 years to the BWCA. Thanks for all of the helpful information 👍🏼 I’m able to go with my sons and I’m so excited 🎉
Loved this video! Thanks for sharing. You guys are too cute. Don't you hate showing up somewhere that is supposed to be the middle of nowhere to find trashy people have left their garbage?! We are constantly picking up cans and garbage when we go out on our quads too. Thank you for cleaning up! :)
Yes it is tough. I don’t want to complain and be a downer in these videos but I figure it is part of the experience! Thank you for doing your part in cleaning up too ☺️☺️
So good to see you back in BWCA! I started following you because of your videos about BWCA years ago only to find out that you are from the same part of the state that I grew up! It’s been fun to watch your cabin build, but a revisit to BWCA is refreshing!!
Thank you! Yes, I also feel refreshed making these videos and doing these trips. My truest passion is BWCA camping. I am taking summer classes in my graduate program, so this summer might not be as BWCA focused. But I already am looking forward to another trip. ☺️☺️
How fun! I am watching and thinking about how much I miss camping.. i used to take my horse to a State natural area (in Texas) and I’d pitch a tent, and then ride the miles and miles of trails, coming back to cook on my camp stove, rub down and feed my horse, and rest up to try a different trail the next day…. We’ve retired now and moved out of state. We have more livestock now that can’t be left unattended while we go away for several days to a week…. I’d love to go on a canoeing and camping fishing trip. Ya’ll need a net!
Great video. My mom and I tried that creek from Snowbank to Parent Lake about 40 years ago when I was a teenager. We finally gave up about half way. I am so impressed you stuck with it and made it.
Thank you for your videos!! ❤ I live in the adirondack mountains in upstate NY. Beautiful area. Love to see your beautiful area where you live. So cool.
Nice camp out. I was wondering if the canoe rests on the head when you pack it? If so you may be able to make a padded something that sets inside and the boat rests on the shoulders. The neck bones may be stressed unexpetantly.
There is a bar that runs across the top of the canoe. Has two pads for your shoulders when you flip the canoe over to portage it. You'll be able to see them @1:16 of the video.
Oh my goodness! I finally got to see the whole vid! You guys are so cute together!! We want more canoe camping vids!!!😊😊😊. Thank you both so much for picking up that campsite. I try to do what I can as well. I have those exact same darn tough socks that Corey was wearing, colors and all! 😁. I was extremely impressed that you guys were doing all those portages with water shoes as opposed to hiking boots. I think, from what ive seen in other vids from algonquian and quetico, that people wear hiking boots and thick socks and wear tbem into the water. They do it to protect ankles it seems. Anyway…. Good stuff here and take care. NQU
I have always gotten an early start on any of my BWCA trips, ( on the water by 6 am). How do you find sites etc that late in the day? I stat to look for a site around noon.
I just get lucky and have always found a site. I definitely think it is a good idea to get an early start. I’m not advocating for an evening/afternoon start. BUT, when I used to work at Gunflint Lodge, I would enter the BWCA in the afternoon when I got off work and go for an evening paddle or for a 1-2 night camping trip. Often solo. I guess I just got used to starting a trip at 5, 6, or even 7pm and knowing I just had to take the first campsite I found. Now I live a bit farther away and it takes me 4-6 hours to get from my house to the entry point. Sometimes I prefer to get a late BWCA start rather than getting a hotel or camp spot outside of the BWCA and enter the following morning.
I know that you carried out some trash that you find, but what do you do with the food packages that you use on your campouts? Do you burn the paper in the fire or carry it out?
Good Question! I carry it all out. Personally, I do not burn any garbage in the fire. Paper is more likely to cause floating embers as it burns. If you're familiar with the Ham Lake Fire in BWCA (I highly recommend the book "Gunflint Burning") It is assumed that the fire started due to paper ember floaters. I think of that every time I have an urge to put paper in the fire.

Omg I miss the boundary waters so much thanks for the video
I hope you have a chance to make it back someday!

Glad you like them! We are hoping to do a few trips this summer. We will film at least one more of them ☺️.

What did you use to shoot the video? GoPro?
Maybe you will find the drone you lost a few years ago…or, better yet, that tree has blown down!
The worst day I ever spent on water is nothing compared to the drama of everyday life
BWCA campsites have well fed snapping turtles. Never put your stringer of fish in the water at camp and walk away.
Good point. It was a decent sized turtle!
What lakes were these?
Seriously, couldn’t you guys just have found a nice hotel somewhere?? LOL!!!!
Where's the fun in that lol
