Dude, I cannot say this enough: Thank you for everything you do with your channel. Between the things I've learned on Stage Traxx 3, Bbeat, making tracks, and now I'm going to invest in a Maestro DMX, you've elevated my band's live show to an entirely new universe.
You always have quality content and I continue to appreciate your detailed manner of presenting and guiding with precise video walkthroughs and highlights. Excellent! You’re opening a little window for me into the general idea of how the big live shows of my favorite artists are put together with these classes of equipment. I have a feeling I might be going into a rabbit hole of videos!
Seems like a pretty cool device! I personally have been LOVING Lightkey. It takes a bit of learning but you can really control every aspect of your lights and program right inside of Ableton. The MVP having to record triggers from Lightkey is interesting. It almost adds an extra step. I think offloading video to the MVP could be a HUGE help because video is a resource hog on a laptop. But I'd keep the light programming right inside Ableton and use the USB2DMX converters you've reviewed in the past. Lightkey is a super lightweight software and doesn't take up much resource space running on the same computer as Ableton. It'd be awesome if you could do a video on resolume! I've been using the demo version and sending timecode from our Ableton arrangement to sync video. That takes the load off the main laptop also, and Resolume has all the VJay live video mixing capabilities as well as simply triggering pre-created video with LTC. Unfortunately Resolume is a pretty expensive software haha. OH! Curious if there was a reason you moved from the Donner wireless DMX (we're using those and love them) to the Chauvet! Great content as alwasy man!
Thanks for the commenting! Maybe I need to spend more time in Lightkey to really understand it. Resolume is pretty intimidating haha. And the Donner ones had some connection issues that I ran into a few times. Maybe they were just getting old though because they worked insanely well for a while!
Nice!!! Gamechanger for sure. Linear Time Code (LTC) is also a great addition. As always, now I just have to figure out how send wireless midi to this from StageTrax3 to trigger video. Wonder if you could use a WidiPlug/Jack with this product? Videos saved on a standalone device is AWESOME. No laptops/ more iPads etc. 🙏🏻👍🏻👊🏻
I know! It’s such a killer device. I need to look into LTC because I had never heard of it until this device. But yes, I would use a Widi jack or possibly Widi bud to plug into this thing 🤘Especially with stage Traxx
Thanks for another cool device! I love sync videos, but device didn't selling in my country yet, so i continue to use it with my macbook and OBS )) BTW can you tell me model of your 4 lighting strips, the link 1-st link in description lead me nowhere, and second on amazon search and Neweer lights, but i don't models like in your video (
@@ScottUhlMusic thanks! sadly i don't have this lights in my country too, maybe you can suggest any cheap china lights with dmx and battery? i never experienced with light on my loop shows, but maybe i can add some fresh effects with color transitions and wireless dmx, who knows.... ))
hey there - what country are you based in? Happy to take a look, but we should be able to ship to most any country worldwide, provided there aren't export restrictions from the US.
The video aspect of it sounds great and something that i'll look into. But i never liked the idea of having a pre-recorded dmx-show. Adresses / Fixtures may change from show to show. As well as the location itself. What if i need to adjust the pan / tilt of a fixture to suit the room i'm currently in? Anyway: Great video and very good explanation!
Thank you! That’s true for the pan/tilt. For me, I just have the lights setup the same way, and with Spiral Cell it definitely makes a lot of sense to have the lights synced up. It can add to the show when done correctly 🤘
Hi Scott, thanks for sharing this! So informative and helpful. Can you share what projector you use and recommend for your live shows? Much appreciated.
Thanks! And mine is an old “ultra short throw” projector by “NEC.” It’s discontinued now, but they have other ones actually. It works decently well, but I wish it was a tad be brighter
Not from this, I don’t believe so. Once you record the DMX data onto this, it saves as such. So you would have to record at different master brightness levels
Scott is correct on this - the MVP outputs the raw DMX data you record into it. We are working towards more lighting design abstraction features in the future.
Wow great video! I’m also a live looper but I’m running on iOS and Loopy Pro as host (you should check that out if you haven’t already). Is it possible to set the MVP up with a computer and then run it stand alone on stage? I’ll have my iPad to send midi messages either through 5pin or usb to the MVP. Thoughts?
This looks very cool, I'm always looking for a device like this to be able to play a video while I do an instrumental mini-concert for my friends (I dont see the point of them looking at me XD) However 500$ is a bit much in addition to the rest necessary to use it, so I was wondering if you know an alternative that doesnt necessarilly have the dmx stuffs, just video display, and is cheaper? Anyway I'm taking note of that one and the other blue one I dont remember the name of that you reviewed a year ago I think.
I haven’t seen anything else that does something like this as standalone. The b Beat does backing tracks and video and midi in standalone, but it’s also going to cost around that.
@@ScottUhlMusic Yeah so we are on the same page of options. 500$ is still possible for me to invest but then I would need to make sure I'll use it more than once XD
Scott. From Uk and don’t think this is available yet here. Can this be triggered via stage traxx 3 Bluetooth Widi. Only one midi in on mvp. Will the CMD widi master work as it has two dongles for in and out. Thanks bud.
Very interesting. I’m struggling to find something like this. I ordered the B Beat but I had to return it… the build quality was subpar at best and one of the audio outputs broke after one gig (and I take very good care of my stuff). How’s the build on this guy?
This thing is great…. But so is the B Beat. Anything can break, so I wouldn’t write off anything after one bad experience. It’s very light, But I am not worried about the build quality at all.
I’m in the same boat. Trying to find a more stable solution than B.Beat. I’ve had 4 different ones crash in a “LIVE” setting. Haven’t tried the Pro yet though. But, Stage Trax3 coupled with this new gadget MAY be the solution that’s bullet proof live. We shall see.
@@DrumGun76 yeah, the other issue with B Beat was the stability. It was very buggy and after testing it extensively and rebooting it numerous times, I couldn’t get a clean workflow from it.
@@ScottUhlMusic I hear you. I really did like the concept of the B Beat, a lot. But plastic inputs on a device for repeated stage use was just a deal breaker for me. Hopefully they can improve the build quality with future models. The concept is awesome.

If it only uses 1 midi channel for video & another for DMX then this could be pretty limiting for larger programming or people with multiple projects. Would eb great if they allowed the channel assignment on each entry with perhaps a default value you can over-ride to keep things grouped together. I suppose another would be if you could just load a "working project" and then you've at least got the full MIDI keyboard to work with, but that'll still become limiting at a point. A great idea with potential, will be interesting to see how they expand going forward. Cheers!
Thanks! And It does respond on different midi channels. Video on 1 and lighting on channel 3 but I do agree being able to assign the midi channel would be great!
@@ScottUhlMusic What I was meaning was being able to use multiple channels for each category so that you can make a larger number of unique profiles. 1 Piano worth of options on only 1 channel is a little limiting, and easily expanded.
They added LTC?! 🙌 I was asking if the MVP had timecode when it first came out, but never got my answer. Now I wonder if it's just LTC trigger or if it follows. Awesome news either way.
@@ScottUhlMusic LTC follow is great for getting the most precise sync across multiple devices where they don't share the same audio clock. With LTC follow the receiving device is constantly aligning with the source, so you can even scrub through the material and it will display the video at that point in time. LTC trigger is going to be more like MIDI triggering where the video will trigger at the specified timecode and just play out, so it's possible the video drifts off the audio if it's coming from another source. This isn't always a deal breaker if the video doesn't have to be super precise like visualizers or something.
