knitting is very nice for things like sweaters, scarfs, anything you want to drape well or be stretchy. crochet is nice for things you want the big holes in (although you can knit eyelets as well) and is way better for amigurumi
i first learned how to crochet but don’t worry! once you learn that knitting is pretty easy to learn after, took me quite some time to learn the new language of patterns but not impossible! :)
No because that was literally me. like I was genuinely sobbing hardcore in frustration and then I gave up for like 2 months and tried again and then I started to get the hang of it. You'll eventually get it @sultanrmisac6359
@@PanFriedFishI respectfully disagree, I think because knitting is more difficult, it should be learned first. By the time learning crochet rolls around, it will be a total breeze.
the way i see it is that the stitching in a knit work is typically vertical, while the stitching in crochet work is typically horizontal. and regarding garments, knit garments are usually a lot stretchier and kinda thinner while crochet is more stiff and bumpy
It really does depend on the stitch, needle and yarn size, tension and so much more. The number of needles and the look of the stitches is usually what gives it away :)
This was incredibly helpful! I just got a bunch of yarn and wanted to pick up a new skill, so it's not wasted, but I had no idea what the difference between the knitting and crocheting was. Thank you 😊
I started crochet because it seemed easier to learn, but I prefer the knitting look. Now I will look into tunisian crochet which seems to be the right compromise !
And then Tunisian crochet. I just learned crochet recently, like 3 months ago, it’s so fun and quite challenging to read patterns 😭 I scared knitting lol then i saw Tunisian crochet. Omg. All so cool.
Tunisian crochet is probably the style of crochet I know to be the most similar to knitting, it even looks extremely similar on both sides compared to the knitting she showed
I do neither, but I prefer to wear light knit sweaters that emphasize certain things. Crochet doesn't wear quite the same. Doilies are nice to have as are crocheted throw blankets. Machine knitting pretty much fulfills most of my needs to be honest. I'd be willing to try any art that has quick results for large projects. I currently don't have any patience for either, but that could change someday.
I think an apple is more round than a pear and that apples have wider ranging textures and flavors while pears are generally more consistent due to having about half as many species
This is a nice comparison. Having learnt both,i feel more comfortable with the crochet hook. Something about the stitches sliding off the needle at any time is anxiety inducing
My personal experience is that crochet produces a slightly heavier material and does require more yarn. Single crochet stitch is dense, which can be very helpful on edges for instance. I’ve done knitted sweaters where the pattern called for edges to be finished in crochet.
Your examples of the fabric produced by knitting and crochet appear to be biased towards the variety produced by crochet. Unlike crochet, knitting uses two basic stitches, knit and purl, while crochet uses multiple variations on the single, basic, crochet stitch. Your example of knitting is evidently an unblocked, flat fabric, showing uneven tension. A more realistic example between the two crafts would show the complexity of knitting using the techniques similar to crochet in creating open work, lace, and layered stitch effects very like crochet. Both crafts produce exquisite results in a multitude of stitches and methods. On a personal note: having worked in a knit supply retail shop, the better the tools and yarn used, the better the result. Try out different ones, knitting and crochet, until you find what’s most comfortable for you. And whatever you work on, remember, the idea is to enjoy what you’re doing! It really is cheaper than therapy and you meet the nicest people!
Depends on what look you want. Today more and more clothing designs are coming available in Crochet, which is wonderful. However, unfortunately, Crochet is still viewed as the “granny square” motif, which just isn’t the case. There are so many beautiful ways to use the basic crochet stitches (just look for RUclips videos.)
Crochet uses more yarn. The finished product is thicker. It also works up faster. Knitting usually makes a more solid product. It’s also compatible with a greater variety of yarn. Not to mention that when you crochet people call it: knitting.
Actually there is a greater variety of knitting patterns and effects than with crochet! There are whole books filled with knitting structures & patterns.
I don't think the biggest thing to remember is the fact that crochet is made with a single hook while knit is done with two needles.Thats obvious. It's the fact that in knitting you are working with more than one live stitch at a time while crochet only works with one live stitch at a time.
@@Kfssan This is true! I've seen it made with up to 4 for socks or round things but I just stick to crochet. Knitting seems so intimidating while crochet feels like mostly one stitch at a time.
I'm learning to crochet but I really hope I can learn how to knit, I like how knitted sweaters look, they seem more cozy 😊

I wanna learn both. Knitting to make beautiful cable sweaters and pillows, and crochet for cute little accessories or decorations
learn crochet first. as someone who does both crochet is easier to learn

That's one of the many things I love about crocheting. You can get as creative as you want and basically make your own stitches if you want.

After two years of crocheting, I finally built up the courage to learn how to knit. It's not as hard as i thought 😅
I wanna learn knit too I can only crochet
me too! though I've been crocheting for 4 years. made my first hat with circular needles this week.
I do both but I always preferd the way knits look

Lemon and lime too I think

I've tried both crochet and knitting. I personally like crocheting. So much easier.
Ive only ever crocheted, but would love to take up knitting! It just seems so much more complicated

A knitter myself, you should see some of the beautiful lace patterns that knitting can produce! Looks breath taking...
As someone with ADHD I was hesitant about trying lace knitting. I was “hooked” before I was halfway through my first piece!

There's a large variety of knitting patterns, too. You just showed one.

sending this video to all of my family members who have asked me while i was crocheting “what are you knitting?”
Thread used in both methods are same or different?
Both crochet and knit are done with yarn, synthetic or natural fiber. It depends on personal preference which type of yarn a person uses.
Crochet or knitting which one is better for a jacket?
