Great update John! I wish I would have done the temp. wood framing for getting all the tubes level and square like you did. Cheaping out and using string and stakes wasn't worth some of the hassles I had later on.

Thanks Nico! I was inspired by your build, it gave me the confidence to take this on myself.

Good job, it gives me a little nostalgia session, which reminds me of the construction of my column for my dome that I had presented in one of my YT videos. It was about 4 meters high, 60cm in diameter, and the foundation is 2 m3 which represents more than 7.5 tons of reinforced concrete (15400lbs)

I love the change from the "rusty" saw to the power saw! I've done that so many times....

You clearly have a construction background. Good video. I have your new book on the way!

Thanks! The construction background was mostly just watching RUclips, haha. I did some of the renovation work on my house though.

Love that you initially bolted down the resin adirondack chairs😂
And you lost me at all the cutting. Definitely not a sweet spot for me but clearly one of yours. 🛠️

Check out my how to use any telescope video. My favourite tools to observe with are a nice Adirondack chair, a warm jacket and hot chocolate! No electronics.

Can you recommend a telescope that would be good for viewing objects in space but also work for viewing ships on the horizon from the beach? Does something like that exist?
PS, your content is awesome! You have a skill for making the info clear and easy to understand. Other telescope Channels make it harder to find the info you want.

Thanks for the feedback! Something like this would be great for ships as well as Saturn, the Moon, etc: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/802967919-USE/explore_scientific_fl_mc1001400tn_firstlight_100mm_f_14_alt_az.html

Hello John….just found your channel. I’m waiting to purchase a Celestron DX5 so I can start looking up(it’s sold out everywhere 😢). My first ever telescope. Enjoying watching your videos, found your channel in doing my research on which telescope to get.

Hope you find one soon! In the meantime, dark skies and binoculars are all you need!

Perfect advice and I would do so however I am permanently disabled and binoculars are a bit difficult to use. I actually just emailed all star telescopes because of your input about them, they have it as “special order” in the site but in stock. I doubt they will find one though. I’ve contacted almost every place in the states. Anyway, thx for replying to my comment and look forward to purchasing your book on 150 things to look at.

Is Nova Scotia a good location for an observatory unless you want to do radio astronomy or watch clouds?? Possibly one of places worse than Ireland in the world. I think what you are doing is great but ….

    • @LearnToStargaze
      @LearnToStargaze  3 месяца назад +2

It’s pretty much been clear skies at night for the past 60 days. This is a robotic observatory, even if it’s cloudy at sunset, it might come to life when the skies clear at 3am.

Wouldn't matter where you go in Canada youll still have a 33% chance at clear skies for doing astronomy.

where the heck is that place? it looks great, but you're obviously in the middle of nowhere. What about AC and other amenities? How far to the liquor store. (forgive me, I'm not Canadian) 😁

I always wanted a dome for my scope. But listening to imperial measurements while building an astronomical observatory hurts me inside
