    The lights on those cameras are quite small and easily concealed with a small piece of tape, the officer's hand or nearly everything you come in contact with.
    This excuse is equivalent to a child's and only acceptable to those that don't require any reason or excuse.

    If I remember correctly The Axon cams have a "blind" mode in which the red light is off yet the cam still functions. Just not tracking here. I trained officers for years and this is my bottom line. It should be STATUTE that cams remain on at all times during an incident or call until that call is cleared. It is public record PERIOD. If the agency needs to redact certain sections for operational security, that can be argued. But the complete record MUST be preserved.

    it should be considered the crime of unlawful tampering with evidence for cops to stop recording or mute their body cameras. All of the events of an incident should be recorded from start to finish. It should be up to legal counsel and the public records custodian acting in accordance with Florida’s public records law as to determine what is released to the public not the officers in the field. Officers in the field shouldn’t even have the ability of deciding what is recorded during an incident much less the discretion.

      @@williampayton9515 - Actually, cops turn off their radios all the time in situations like that. Even a radio that’s very low could be heard. And as far as a piece of tape, great advice if you plan to head. You don’t always have time to get an opaque piece of tape.

    • @williampayton9515
      @williampayton9515 Год назад +2

      @@iMatti00 Modern Motorolas and others do in fact turn the volume all the way down to emit zero sound. Some even have a vibrating remote mic or ear plug. And the visual indicator is not a necessity. The radio carrying pouch can certainly conceal any visual signals by adding a simple flap that can folded over for night use or stowed away for day time ops. Military units do this "ALL THE TIME" while conducting patrols and radio discipline is enforced. At no time should a radio or body cam be turned off while actually on a call.
      All it takes is one shot to the shoulder or both shoulders and you won't be able to turn your comms back on to get help. Leave the comms on with the volume turned down and you can lean your cheek over and apply pressure to the remote mic and place the call. The volume button only dictates how loud you hear, not how loud you transmit. You must be young and ignorant to the importance of radio communications.

    • @iMatti00
      @iMatti00 Год назад

      @@williampayton9515 - When I said turning off ones radio I’m referring to turning off the sound. Though I could’ve been more precise about that.
      But as far as your dig about me being young and ignorant, I think that kind of points to something about you that you can’t handle someone disagreeing with what you think. Seems like you have to come back swinging. And I believe that not only because of what you said because more or less you just repeated yourself. You said there’s a cover with a flap over at the cover the light and everything else, well duh. That’s why I made my comment that regular patrol cops do not always plan ahead and have an opaque piece of tape. The cop was not prepared for that assignment, so we had the choice to either leave, in which case his body camera would be useless, or stay and turn it off. Either way there would’ve been nobody camera. Obviously the swat team doesn’t have body cameras in that department or else we would’ve had their cameras. So this one guy shutting off his camera meant nothing.
      So I would respectfully suggest you have some introspection and explore why you feel the need to lash out because someone disagreed with you and said that he might not had tape available once they realize the light was flashing. And last minute situation you don’t always think of everything ahead of time. Or I guess I could in my comment by saying maybe you were too young or ignorant to realize. But I won’t do that. Haha

Studies have shown that cops are less than 35% accurate when shooting, so they have to shoot multiple times to hit a target. True some cops can be bad but if someone goes out committing armed robbery they risk getting killed. Camera don't matter this time. I would not want a blinking light on my body if somebody was shooting at me. And that situation who's going to think to get a piece of tape out and cover a blinking light. Ridiculous, is life-or-death

  • @iMatti00

    👎 ~ This is why people hate the media. If you want to criticize the police department for having a light or not having a way to cover up the light, perfect. But you’re making this worse than it is. If the light is giving away their position then of course they need to turn it off. Are we serious? You really think the cop needs disciplined? And you didn’t mention there’s one way the cop could’ve kept his body camera all caps on, he could’ve just left the area. Because it looks like the swat team cops didn’t have body cameras at all. Yet you focus on rules which sometimes have holes in them.
    I’ve constantly criticized cops for turning off their body cameras. But there’s times a body camera needs to be turned off. And I’m sure you’ll have plenty of people in the comment section we don’t have many brain cells and they’ll be all against the cops here. But you’ve done nothing for journalism or for society.

    It have to be consequences for incident like these. Why JSO change camera policies 10 times since 2018 is unheard of and disorganized.

    turn the cameras off and he get shot 18 times, sound like they shot him on sight, so what about the other officers cams? was they turn off too, the ideal that they can turn they can them off is crazy, they should never turn them off.
    It should be a 100% fireable offence, if they turn their body camera off during a shooting, it could possibly cost the city millions in future incidents

    I love how this “News” channel says “the facts are against him but they have nothing to actually prove it. Just what the cops told them. Now him being told to deactivate the camera wouldn’t that be on the body cam?? Or was it deleted? I’m betting they deleted it.

    What a great lesson to other LEOs. ALWAYS be sure to turn off your body cam before murdering a citizen, especially if your victim is unarmed. While there always a chance some nosy do gooder might film the murder with their phone, don’t make it easier for the cop haters by filming it yourself. Just remember - cops always get the benefit of the doubt versus citizens because of all the hero propaganda they’ve been spoon fed for decades. Good luck out there!
