For the people interested in the story behind the opening Gothamchess did 2 videos on it - "GM banned for cheating?" and "Anonymous banned GM revealed!"
Basically an anonymous GM beat Daniel Naroditsky with about a 60% win rate using this opening over about 70 games at about 3 in the morning. He was banned mid game and nobody really knows if he was cheating or not. Daniel has said wasn't involved in the ban.
Since then he's revealed himself to be GM Brandon Jacobson and stated his side of the story in a very long reddit post. Aside from the games with Daniel he and his friend played hundreds of games with the opening with about a 70% win rate, including some wins against famous players.

One of Ben Finegold's famous rules is "Always sacrifice the exchange." The idea behind this is that bishops are often more useful than rooks early on in the game. Although objectively terrible, this opening likely does give you more compensation in practical play against human players than recognised by engine evaluations.

yeah as someone else mentioned, GothamChess has a few videos on the subject, he is the source to go whenever there is drama in the chess world.
Because the account was an unknown person so they thought he was cheating before knowing that it was a GM alt account.

@@helloman3676 Nope. They knew it was a GM and they knew it was Brandon. But I don't think he cheated, I think they made a hasty decision to ban him.

20:18 Black queen could have forked white rook & knight ? Black lost at at 20;19 -should have pushed queen instead of rook to f-7 could then of cleared white pawns on B & A file. Of course hind sight is 20-20🤠

in your intro you said the banned gambiter won A game vs that GM, but they played back to back over many hours and the banned gambiter won numerous game if not the majority iirc

I played a pick up daily chess game where my opponent played the banned opening. I checkmated him in 6 moves. It's definitely not unstoppable.....

Can someone explain me why its a illegal move in 6:08 and then in 7:28 its ok?
In 6:08 its an illegal move because the bishop has power over the g2 and f1 square. The problem is that castling is forbidden when opponent pieces are in charge of one of the castling fields . In 7:28 this is not the case.

i think i know where Anna's primary weakness is, in her chess play. it's all about time-management. you can't fix a lack of higher-skill with more play...you reach your limit.
in her shorter, blitz games, her rating is much higher, because she's forced to curtail her lengthier thinking. but, with the longer games, she drops her discipline, and it becomes a problem. the trick is going to be about how much time you train yourself to utilize, prior to playing. so what you do, is save your time for the end-play. in effect, capitalizing on your opponent's weaker use of time-management...it's a strategy worth thinking about. and, if you do - i'm certain Anna's ranking is 100+ points greater, already. just for keeping her mind open. you think about it as an analogy; the rules of the game are thus: drive a car within the lines. BUT, the speed goes up! until you fail...what do you do? - you enforce greater discipline in every thing you do...to avoid errors. in other words, you take less chances. how does that pertain to chess? - more disciplined play.

The player was banned after beating daniel naroditsky something like 27-20 in a back to back blitz session at about 3 in the morning. Nobody knows whether he cheated or not (Danya wasn't involved in the ban). The opening is much less bad then it seems in blitz and to me it seems conceivable that with a lot of practice you could do well with it

Yes it doesn't seem that bad to my nooby eyes either. A bishop is useful throughout the game whereas a rook usually comes out much later. Playing a piece up from the third turn onward while also disrupting someone's intended opening seems well worth the exchange.
So I was wondering what would be the correct respond. This opening sacrifices the queen side castle, so would it be a good strategy to ignore the rook and storm the king side?
