- Over the last few years, the digital world has accelerated its invasion of the material one. Our time is monopolised by the same four mega-platforms while data-driven mass surveillance and state-funded troll farms threaten the free internet. What kind of internet are we building for the future, and how can we prepare for the worst?
Ordinary Things is an anonymous satirist, writer and documentarian. He makes videos about the surprising and sinister stories behind everyday things for over 600,000 subscribers on RUclips. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Never expected him giving him a Ted talk...
Very ordinary 9/10
It's Tedx, but yeah
I made it halfway through the video thinking that he was just editing himself on stage before realizing it was legit
@Che8t it’s Ted. He’s talking. And it’s very ordinary
I've only ever watched TEDx talks about prehistoric animals. But I suppose any old schmohe can give one if they have a hanker to.
Ahehehehe that got me good 😂🤣😂🙏
ted talks. Ted Talks! What are Ted talks. Is this video a Ted talk? Who is this Ted and why is he talking? Is this blonde guy who is sending information into my ear holes Ted? And where did I find this gun? All this and more on this episode of In The Fffffff
in, the, ordi-things
what iiiiiis a ted talk? is it when this blonde weirdo is talking? does HE have a youtube channel? what a coincidence! all this and more on in... the... quaran-things
I could hear the into music while reading this
Waa. WAAA?
Internet historian should do a ted talk 😂
I love that he did this in the same note that his videos have. Fantastically written, well researched, and just shows how smart he is. Bravo
US uses internet for it's regime change in other countries - protection is protecting your information space same as air and boarder defence

@@markjackson7467 oh I wouldn't be so certain.
@@themarlboromandalorian He shows no evidence of the knowledge here - the complete opposite actually - or seems to be white washing it.
Well sorta. It ultimately comes off as a uni students ramblings. It doesn't really offer any solutions or ideas, just issues. Most of which any educated person knew. I like the guy, but I think he should stick to being a youtuber. Not an educator.
Ordinary Things giving an Extraordinary Talk, loved it! More from him please

Ordinary Things is one of the smartest, most meaningful creators I have ever come across on RUclips and we should all be listening to him.
It's no coincidence that he's friends with Internet Historian.
I’ll be honest, I firmly disbelieve in the idea of all information being available to everyone. As good as it looks on paper, most people are not intelligent enough to truly understand topics in context or being a surface level. As a result, most people learn tricks and buzzwords to help themselves to form an opinion on a topic rather than listen or read about it for true comprehension. In the current state of the internet this results in great and meaningful creators like ordinary things getting banned or demonetized when someone watched a video with controversial history or context.
I firmly believe that in the coming generations information will be restricted to those capable of understanding it. This will paradoxically both limit information that we currently view as common sense and make classified information available to those without clearances. The truly interesting part of this will be how we get there and what other social ramifications we encounter along the way.
@@deltacharlieecho4732 Sir this is a Wendy’s
@@Curryboikutty oh, can I get a mcchicken then?
@@deltacharlieecho4732 that has to be the most moronic thing i've ever heard in my entire life, how do you determine if someone is "intelligent enough" to "understand" a piece of information?
Ordinary Things translates perfectly to a TED talk, it’s almost like a quiet OT video
A great speech from Stede Bonnet!
Ssstttteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeede
The pirate has really went on to great things!
@@viderevero1338 they seem pretty ordinary to me tbh
Arrrrrrr arrrrr
Honestly I watched that movie so many times it's a true masterpiece and should have never been rejected at Sundance.
I usually don't go through a whole ted-talk in one go but i did for this one. No internet historian cameo though, 8/10.
He's unaffected by the circumstances, I love it. Remaining casual on stage and being able to use their personal charm is not default for people. It takes talent and practice to be entertaining and relaxed in front of an audience. He makes it look easy but there's good writing and an inquisitive mind behind it. Very ordinary thing, 5/10.
would have enjoyed if he was casual & down to earth on stage, came off more sweaty & pontificating than usual blathering on with no exposition
The ordinary accent is what does it 😂
@@VeggieRice My apologies you didn't understand what was being said.
Ordinary Things getting a Ted Talk is such a cool thing to see

Ordinary Things transitioning from things like lawnmowers to the global diamond scam has been amazing to watch.
Watching this Ted Talk feels like the pay-off he deserves.
Ordinary Things is one of the sharpest individuals on the web. I look forward to seeing him reach great heights.
Half expecting him to break into a advert for nordvpn
Hey it’s that guy from that thing!
love that guy
Such a good presenter. Very charismatic. 10/15 years ago he would have been on TV, so I'm kinda glad he makes his own stuff and didn't have to get churned out by that machine. He might not be earning the same money he would have there, but if he keeps it up then hopefully he will.
A similar thing happened in my country Nigeria, where twitter was used to organize protests against SARS(a police group that had been abusing power and essentially killing youths around the country on false charges)
cant wait for internet historian do a ted talk
He would show up dressed as shadow man and talk about raidy shady
but he already did?
He already did mate, search finding yourself as a meme ted talk
Might plagiarise his speech
Stede Bonnet Knows a lot more about the internet than you'd think for a 1700s Pirate
I feel that classroom lessons to help young people understand and identify what is Mis & Disinformation would be really helpful. Too many people simply believe and parrot what they see and hear on Radio, TV, and the Internet, and this has always been the main problem. Critical thinking may not suit those who wish to control you, but it would lead us to a much, much better society.
This man is a modern treasure.
TLR too
Damn, my man dropped an F-bomb in a TED talk. And remember, don't let the bastards grind you down!
Ordinary Things getting a ted talk is so freaking cool man
Minor criticism, he went overtime, which isn't supposed to happen. Good thing: he was not stopped. As a fan of OT, it would be a disservice to stop such an eye opening presentation.
Finally, a tedx talk worth watching
I get the impression that Ordinary Things is one of the final faces of the Old Guard.
It's nice to see a fellow internet advocate still fighting the war.
On a side note, did TEDx just become more legitimate than TED Official?
no anyone can pay to put on a Tedx for themselves, that's why at least a handful of cult leaders have one
Well the thing about it is, with regular TED Talks you mostly get a bunch of corporate bootlicking, milquetoast and commonly accepted ideology pandering and one-upping, while TEDx is usually more of a anything goes kind of thing... which means that you get more of actual intellectuals BUT also more likely to encounter pyramid schemers, cult leaders, etc.
@@VeggieRicethere's a bit more to that, you can absolutely host one up to a hundred people when given permission, but to host more people you need to have visited the main event at least once, and that costs thousands of dollars.
ugh get a job goofy
Every time I find myself going down a doomer rabbit hole, I always search up stuff to counter my fears, and Ted Talk is right there all the time!
Thank you guys!💖💖💖
I'm legitimately amazed at how he has the same eloquence and charm in his video
“ internet culture is global culture “ that hit hard.
am I the only one who thinks it's a bit grim?
Been subscribed to his channel for a couple of years now. Somehow never saw this. It's brilliant, as always.
Beautiful work, I really enjoyed this! Never thought Id see someone I normally watch end up on a TEDTalk! But damn...thats some deep stuff to think about.

I am a Huge fan of his work and seeing him must've been a full circle moment for him. This is amazing dude. You're all amazing
I can’t wrap my head around ordinary things doing a ted talk
Never would have expected this guy to get a Ted Talk.
First time in ages I've actually wanted to watch a ted talk. This guy has humour, information and well-found criticism in droves - in that sense, he's a figure somewhat( if simplistically) compatible to FriendlyJordies
"Demand for Disinformation" is quite an interesting term btw
this is the same guy that threw a grenade at a cow
And a mayo jar out his window...
Awesome that he got to speak on a respected platform such as this, he deserves it.
So proud of this. He's come a long way on RUclips
Genuinely the best tedx speech I’ve heard
becoming an essential source of information. Keep it up, both the funny as the serious videos. loved it
"Imperfect machines create imperfect machines". Beautiful.
To this day I’ve never herd Ted actually talk
Nice one, Ordinary man. Been a while since I sat through a TED talk.
awesome work as always Ordinary Things
I've watched a load of Ted Talks and never thought a Tedx would be one of my favourites ever! Smashed it out the park and then some
Absolutely great speech by my dude, Mr. Ordinary Things the Third. Keep up the good work brother!

Still have not learned how to save the internet

What made it great is the same thing that made it terrifying. A lack of control.
Great talk, 10/10 have subbed to ordinary things for a while allready
I didn't know legendary pirate Stede Bonnet held a Ted Talk.
Ordinary things is one of the best picks for a speaker TED has ever chosen

Tough crowd, well done great talk !
Ordinary Things is the most chihuahua-looking person I have ever seen. That said, he's beautiful.
"they're selling access to our eyes balls" *ad plays*
Grew up in the 90's, I miss those times where everything was polar opposite to nowadays. It's something that's lost on most and I'm lucky I experienced it.
Btw it would of been cool to see you on stage without that "I've been coached to talk to crowds" body language you're clearly not good at. Money talks
