Thank you so much for your kind words! One day we are hoping Florida is part of the adventure we are going through, 40 degrees sounds like a blessing right now! It was -2 this morning when I woke up, the semi came today to pick up the bees. LOL! The two of us working together has been extremely fun and rewarding learning how each other approaches a situation or goal ☺️ thanks for the comment!
This was such an experience and so many lessons learned and will honestly love looking back at it next year when we are driving around in the fortruck 😂😂 I absolutely love taking this journey with you and one day when people look back and see how far we came i will credit all to you and your desire to never let anything hold us back My love!
You know how I am 😅 never taking no for an answer and never letting whatever momentary obstacles we find in our way stop us from chasing our goals. Thank you for meeting every crazy idea with “okay let’s brainstorm”, you never fail to somehow, turn my ideas into actual plans. You figure out the logistics, find the resources, and make those dreams a reality. I wouldn’t want to chase our dreams with anyone else ☺️
I love the way we have a push and pull mindset with each other. I truly love that one day when we get where we are going that we will be able to look each other straight into the eyes and say what a crazy trip but we did it! I wouldn't make my dreams come true with anyone but you!!
Always learning! That looked like a COLD adventure! Awesome to see you working together to figure out what works. Next time will definitely be smoother with a fork lift or maybe a smaller 2 hive per pallet type setup? Good luck I hope all goes well with your California bound bees.
@BrianCooper901 thank you A ton! I have thought deeply on the 2 way pallets. i think this year i would love to build one or get my hands on a couple and try them out
Consider using the rigid foam between the colonies such that they might occupy the space between the lids. I think this may allow the ratchet strap to press on the lids rather than the foam so the foam isnt damaged. It will also stop the tops from sliding laterally.
Use 2x6 spreader boards under your straps thats a little longer than your hives are wide and it wont pull lids off of hives and will also lock down every lid. I prefer lids that are longer than hive boxes with cleats on ends to prevent sliding too. Also wood cleats on boxes like handles instead of those factory finger tip lifting handles that suck. Lol Also get some of the larger 2 inch wide ratchet straps are nice to work with and put hive pallet straps around your hives and pallet to keep lids on hives in frequent wind storms in California. If lids blow off there no one will pick them up and put back on your hives unfortunately. Best of luck to you hope your successful 👍 🐝 🐝 🐝 been there done that 😉 🐝
Hey, just a trick of the trucking trade that my Dad taught me-Always place ratchet mechanism on driver side so you have a visual going down the road. I hope you can get a forklift soon! Good luck!
They are on pallets for the drive to the place we took them and they have a forktruck and after we loaded them this time all unloading/ loading would b3 done with a fork truck.
Ok. I'm brand new taking my first 3 colonies into winter. I assume this was recorded end of November or 1st ish of December. Plenty early for Almonds. But you have a ways to travel. I'm wondering, if you'd had a fork lift. And just took everything. Got over to Almonds 6 or 8 weeks early. Could you have poured the feed to them to build the weaker ones up?
We will have a forklift next spring 100% and we had been given the date we had to have them in the staging yard so we just made it happen even if it wasn't prefect, these guys will come back booming and help us expand in the spring early
I'm not a very "person" person and dont like asking for things, but i for sure would have found a local farmer with a telehandler or forklift and paid them for an hours loading instead of breaking all those seals. Hope the boxes are where you put them when they arrive.
@@geraltofrivia8529 i love the im not a "person" person part!! I'm disappointed, what's wrong with American beekeepers??????Why did it all go wrong??? A classic example of the beginning of CCD.😢You move packages of premium whiskey to almonds, make moonshine from it. Then you take that moonshine home and add it to premium whiskey. Absurd.
I applaud your efforts to try to send some bees to CA, however, there is a reason commercial beeks have the proper equipment and crew to perform this task. You unfortunately and I’m sure not intentionally are doing those colonies a disservice. You mentioned the hives were full of honey so giving them the opportunity to thrive on almonds doesn’t seem to be the motivation and rather the revenue per hive. Good luck on the rest of this story I hope it works out for you. Just my personal perspective.

You can always rent a forklift for a day or 2 if needed. Make sure it is made to go on grass. If the ground is not frozen you could get it stuck. I bet you learned a lot of what not to do. Lol Do they add supers in California? I would think your bees would swarm in no time if they didn't have extra room. How many did you ship?
We are buying one in a few months this was a huge learning lesson for us and we be a great memory of what we thought we could do on sheer willpower! Lol
I suspect that you do not have alot of equipment experience. Perhaps renting a few different models over a few years would be a good investment in experience. Perhaps larger beekeepers in the area would be a very affordable aid, and exposure to different equipment for lifting and moving hives. I suspect that a bought lift for an aipairy of your size would have alot of down time.
@@tomvanaalst5790 i do appreciate ur concern but to put it at ease i have quite a bit of experience, running equipment and have no fear or worries of my skill set, not personally owning one don't mean i have never used or been trained to use one.
