- February here at The Last Homely House and the weather is cold and windy still. I've been hunkering down beside the fire with some lovely gentle stitching - revisiting the Plus Quilt I stared many months ago. It's a bold and colourful design and perfectly meets the challenge of cheering me up! The template sheet I talk about can be found here as a free download from Mollie Johanson

Thank you Mollie!
I really enjoy English Paper Piecing and have Kits in my shop so that you can try you hand at it too. Check out the shop here

Why do I love it so much? Well, it's so satisfying to sew on fabric in a precise way and not mind how or when the piece will be finished. I love seeing this one grow slowly as the mood takes me and I need a change of pace. I think we can sometimes be focused on the result more than the process and forget to enjoy the journey!

There is an interesting journey unfolding over on Patreon where I have started an Indigo Project with my daughter in law Anna which will unfold throughout the year with a monthly catch up on each of our quilts. This is just one of the things you can find if you decide to join my Patreon Family here

Anna chooses the music for these videos from Epidemic Sound and I love her choices today
They are Winter Months and Winter Dreams and fit the mood perfectly! Thank you Anna!

I love the rainbow colours the same intensity of colour jumping ahead how do you finish the edges?
Agreed. Love Kate’s calmness.
What a beautiful place to walk. Hope you feel better soon. ❤️
I love youre personality so much ❤ thank you for WHO you are🎉
Anna does such a beautiful job making your videos… a great team , love them all.😊
Yesterday I thought I was opening a bin of batting and found 5 unfinished quilts. Guess I will be busy! So happy to have your company on the lime green sofa.
Rita was the star of the show! Lovely, lovely quilt!
By far, the most soothing video on YT today, from your walk in the beginning to your stitching, with cat Rita supervising! Have a lovely day, Kate - thank you for improving mine!
I was just about to leave you-tube for the afternoon when your video popped up. Thank you for brightening my day with your video showing your beautiful ‘plus’ quilt, landscape walk, cozy fire, and kitty cat! I always enjoy seeing what you are working on! It’s cold here, (in Michigan, USA), my quilt is on my table, my dog is on my lap, my warm drink is by my side, too. I do miss my fireplace though! We may be miles away but we quilters are kindred spirits! Thank you for explaining the paper piecing, I find it fascinating and can see how it could become quite relaxing. I wish you warmth, good health, and more relaxing days quilting! Thank you!
I love how Anna’s quilt is looking.
Greetings from Christchurch New Zealand. Since discovering you on RUclips, last year, I've rummaged through my attic and retrieved the boxes of patchwork paraphanali (from 15 years ago).
So far I've completed a quilt each for my son and daughter (both in their 40's). English paper piecing is all I do, sitting in my rocking chair and listening to an audio book. I'm nearing the end of a double bed quilt, made with Kiwiana fabric of birds, trees, flowers, precious paua shell and Maori motifs. Thanks for your stories and sharing your projects. Anne K
The plus quilt is so colorful and lively. I can't wait to see your progress with it. I so enjoyed the process with Agnes's quilt.
I love your spirit, your cozy home and all the nature around you... you are blessed... thank you for sharing
Love watching your videos. The plus quilt is one only to do list but must finish a hexagon quilt first. Thankyou Kate for your easy to follow instructions.
Your videos are always so lovely and calm. We need that so much here in the States right now. Thank you.
I always enjoy my time with you Kate…you make me feel that I can do whatever I feel comfortable doing.
Every time I see you Kate, I’m inspired. Thank you so much ❤
The first ever time I watched one of your videos you were sitting on this bench in the winter. I think it’s one of your first postings. Glad to be here with you all these years later.
That plus quilt is so vibrant and cheerful. You live in such a beautiful area with that large lake and the wonderful walking tracks. Thanks for sharing that today. Bless you Kate.
A lovely quiet time with you as always. I love how Rita does her supervising duties from the warmest seat in the house. Thank you Kate and Anna and I do hope you are better soon Kate.
I look forward to your videos, you've inspired me to hand stitch and I love it, I do quilt and knit embroider n crochet also but right now I am handstitching my scraps into a yoyo coverlet and also a mini hexie grandmothers garden quilt...thankyou for your videos im learning alot and I much enjoy your content!
I love the pattern pieces mixed in with the solids. Feel better Kate. Thanks for taking us on your walk as well.
Color, color, color! as my granddaughter would say :) I love the project and listening to the sound of the pieces softly crunch when moved. Very satisfying.
Oh my, your walk at the beginning of the video beings to mind one of my favorite words - apricity, it's the feeling of the sun soaking into your bones during winter. Loving your plus quilt progress.
The quilt is beautiful! I will pray for a speedy recovery from your cold. Take care. Love your channel and love you more!!❤❤❤
You look so cozy there in your little stitching nest! The quilt is coming along very nicely. I so admire your ability to have several projects on the go and the obvious joy in picking one back up after a break.
I save your videos like a treat to watch later when all my things are done.
Love the brightness of the quilt, and I will say feel better soon

I really enjoy watching you Kate. I like you have several things on the go. So nice to be able to just pick up another project when you tire of last one. 😊
Such a great idea to work on a project that covers your knees.. Helps keep us toasty warm. All those colors help bright up your space, as well. Nice to see you, again.
Love the colors in Anna's quilt. It will be as beautiful as the one you made. I smiled throughout this video seeing Rita behind your head. The plus quilt will be so cute for your grandson.
What a beautiful, vibrant quilt! I started a plus quilt after seeing one of your videos about your quilt, and like you, I tend to jump from one project to another, then come back to it after weeks or months. Right now, the plusses and the beach huts are sitting in a little basket somewhere in my sewing room. I should really get them out again! Thanks for reminding me, Kate!
Thank you, i agree with everyone, your videos are so peaceful 🎉🎉
I really like Martha's idea of adding just a touch of pattern to these beautiful solid colors! Bravo!!
It is coming along beatifully. All those lovely colours make me smile.
The beauty of quilting is hiding away when not feeling well. Nothing better! Take care Kate! XOX
I love your EPP’s. You look so comfy by the fire sewing away. The colors of your quilt are lovely, I helped my mom and some of her friends when I was very young but have not quilted in many years. You are so inspiring and I feel renewed and ready to begin a new project when I watch your videos. Hope you feel better soon ❤
Hi Kate your grandsons quilt will be awesome when finished, happy quilting Kaye x
Such a nice video Kate. You inspired me to start hand stitching. My mother always hand stitched but I was given my first sewing machine when I was nine years old and was only interested in that for years. I even made my living that way for several years doing upholstery and home furnishings, backpacks, and even factory work in the early years with Halloween costumes and flags. This was back in the day when flags were appliquéd not printed. What a discovery hand sewing was for me for relaxation and a release of creativity. I’m doing an EPP project now and follow your relaxed approach of letting things take as long they take, moving from project to project as inspiration dictates. I began quilting after watching you and your recommendations to other channels. Thanks to you and Anna for all your hard work creating these videos which have kept me company for years now. All my best wishes for a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing the next one.
Kate, I love your attitude. You enjoy working on a project until you lose a bit of interest , then park it for a while. When you go back to it you feel that initial excitement again. I wonder if we might be related somewhere in our families because that’s just how I work too! Thank you for your lovely channel. 👏👏👏
Bless you watching you give comfort . I am 77 year and lonely.
Don’t feel bad I’m 71 and lonely. I do enjoy her videos

I'm so sorry for your cold. It can really knock the stuffing out of a person! Take care and stay warm. Hugs dear Kate. 🫂💜
I’m on my 4th EPP quilt with 2” hexagons, each a different pattern. It helps heal me inside, gives me peace. I love that you enjoy it also. The plus quilt is darling, love it. Take care, hugz. Tree from Missouri.
I’m happy to report that I finished my EPP bag from your Christmas shop this weekend! I enjoyed the whole process. I had injured my thumb last Fall so my progress was slow, little by little I worked my way through winter. I ordered the plain kit but took an idea from your Plus Quilt project and added a few patterned pieces to my bag. It’s so cute! I’m using it to store all my paper templates to use again, I ran a hot iron over them to help get the creases out. I’m also keeping my needle & thread in the bag. All ready for the next EPP project! Be well dear Kate.
I love Rita laying on your chair, she looks so comfy…❤
Love the plus quilt!!
I can see that your supervisor draped on the back of your chair
Is loving the warmth of the fire and being next you .
Cats really make a house a home

Hope you're feeling better soon, Kate. I have a similar experience - six weeks ago I was making a lap quilt from nautical fabrics for my brother's 70th birthday. Something prompted me to phone his wife, and now I am making him a green cushion! 😅 Thank you from the end of the lime green sofa ❤👍

It was so nice to take the walk to the lake. Such a peaceful place. The plus quilt is coming along nicely. It will be interesting to see how you will be finishing the borders. You always seem to have the most interesting things in the works. I am really excited to see the next Last Homely Garden video!
