Viltrox AF 75mm F1.2 XF Pro Review w/ Fujifilm X-H2 - bit.ly/Viltrox75mm
Viltrox has been killing it lately 😮
Love your channel ❤
They really have I'm hoping they'll raise a macro lens soon
@@andrewnuss8416 that would be ideal
@@davidgaritta9195 it really would they have done great lenses that's one I've been hoping to see them release .
I'd like to see them remake the 56mm like the 75 & 27mm
If this one is as good as the Pro 75mm Im going to be super happy. I just order one.
This is an excellent review of an interesting focal length. You do an outstanding job of illustrating your points with corresponding photos. Thanks for posting this!
Thank you for the video. Can’t wait to see this for the Sony E mount. I will pair it with my 75/1.2 Pro. These two with a flexible f/2.8 midrange zoom make an above average APS-C small ( with two heavy lenses) kit.
The 75mm f1.2 feels and looks premium. The 27mm looks to be the same. The images are fantastic and can't tell from oem glass. I can see why Canon doesn't want 3rd party on their platform. Recent 3rd party releases from Viltrox, Sigma, Tamron etc are nearly as good as the oems for fraction of the cost.
And that excuse for Canon doesn't hold. Blocking 3rd party brands will just make many people turn to other brands instead. Sony is open to ALL 3rd party manufacturers, and they are thriving economically. It's not just about the cost, it's also about lens offerings that the main brands don't have themselves, like the Sigma 14mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, Tamron 35-150 etc. Canon has no equivalents themselves. Bad decision from Canon.
@@nikoolixit'll eventually hurt them but that's why I like brands like Sony and Fuji because they're both open to third party brands
@@andrewnuss8416 I'm not touching Canon again until 3rd party lenses are offered. For the time being I'm extremely happy with the X H2s. Recently sold my R6
@@parmanduke I can't say I blame you man tbr I love Fuji glass but it's can be really expensive so I'm glad they allow this party glass I've been using viltrox lenses for a while now and I absolutely love them.
Canon messed when they banned third party lenses I know a lot of people leaving Canon because of it.
I almost bought a Canon but when I saw that I said nope if I buy outside of Fuji it'll be Sony lol.
How do you like the XH-2s?
@@nikoolix Canon has been market #1 for 20 years straight at this point, they can sell what ever they want and their customer will buy it which is sad.
Love it ! great rewiew, cant wait for it !
I have been waiting for this lens for a long time. (I have the Viltrox 13mm and 75mm, both great lenses.) Great review and I feel lucky that there is a reveiw before the order of the lens starts. Nice photos of Bratislava.
Thank you!
I dont have an hx2 or xt-5 but i have an xh2s and MAN i am so hyped for this lense. I love the 75mm and i hope that viltrox will keep on with their good work and mybe someday we get some "standart" vocal-lenght´s like a 56mm as a pro version :D
Excellent review as always
Thank you!
Thanx for the review! Viltrox should create some long prime. Something like 500mm f4 or f5.6. that would be amazing!
Great choice for photoshoot locations :) Budmerice manor is my favorite
This looks like a great option for video, I hope they improve the AF before it is released. Nice review!
Thank you!
Excellent review as always very precise and well laid out. Better thsn a 50 mil huh.
Thank you!
Wow F1.2. We need that on E-Mount 😊. My goto APS-C is 35mm-ish. Would be amazing.
It will probably be available for E-mount later on.
Both the 27 and 75 are on my wish list for sure.
V 75mm is my favorite lens I own. Love the color it renders as well as detail and sharpness.
Greeting! Could you please make a video comparing the Viltrox 27mm 1.2 and the Sigma 23mm 1.4 for video recording? Or tell me which one is better for Fuji X-t 4. I'm a videographer and I'm not sure which of these two lenses to buy for video recording. Similar focal length, but I prefer the bokeh on the Viltrox. It seems to me that both lenses have a problem with autofocus for video and with focus breathing. Can the new firmware fix this problem? Thank you!
Has the autofocus performance for video improved after the latest firmware ? And I saw that exposure change is another problem for video in pal2tech review . I hope they fixed that too.
I was planning to buy the Sigma 30mm f1.4 for sony e mount, but now I'm going to wait for this new Viltrox lens. That also gives me more time to save money because this lens looks more expensive than the Sigma one.
A 30 is a wide 50mm equiv , the 27 is a tighter 35mm equiv
@@KNAPPAIDMore exactly, the 30mm is equivalent to 45mm, while the 27mm is to 40,5mm. Pretty much negligible in real life use.
F/1.2 vs f/1.4 is also negligible.
What’s not negligible is the difference in size and weight between the two lenses.
@@SrCordeiro F1.2 vs F1.4 is not negligible by any means. It lets in 33% more light.
@@TheHybridShooter I would say that 33% is quite negligible, 33% more ISO would be hard to discern. There’s also the question of light transmission, have you tested the f/1.2 vs a Fujinon f/1.4 to see if gets faster shutter speeds?
@@SrCordeiro Getting 33% less noise above ISO 1600 on APS-C is definitely not negligible. No, I didn't. There is no reason to assume that light transmission will be worse on Viltrox.
viltron on good track, hope they come up with 105 / 135 glasses
Agreed, I still can't live without the Samyang 135mm F2 for concerts even though it's manual focus.
This is what I need
I hope they release a pro 56mm lens. It's a shame fuji updated their 56 1.2, but kept the old jumpy AF motors.. while the 56 viltrox is decent, I still think a 56 1.2 with weather sealing and fast focusing motors will fill a huge gap in Fuji's line. I just ordered the Sigma 56 1.4 over the viltrox because of that rubber gasket, a little piece of mind goes a long way ^^
You have a really good point there.
Whilst the latest Fuji 56mm is a big improvement I really have to question whwter Fuji lacked ambition on that leans.
Sold. Wish it were wider (23mm) but otherwise sold.
Any indication on the price? As it isn't available yet with pricing, but you calim value was good. RRP available or known?
I’m not sure whether I can disclose the price, I will have to ask.
I think I'll fall in love with this glass. By the way is it technically possible to produce a pancake lens with such a bright aperture?
no
Theoretically yes, practically no.
May i ask - does it have yellowish glass or more neutral, bluish?
There is no tint.
gg, be good to see a comparison to the viltrox 33mm f1.4
That IQ is stupid good just like the 75mm.
👍
👍
I wish the Viltrox 13 1.4 x mount would be made updated to be weather-resistant as this!
I was just about to get the viltox 23mm. Also we need a zoom
Viltrox is killing it. Pls lens god let them do a reasonably priced and small 28mm 1.8 (or 1.4😂) for all the full frame mounts
They already make FF 28mm F1.8.
@@TheHybridShooteroh, you're right. Wasn't aware of it as it's only e mount as far as I can see. Could also be either a tad smaller or, what I would prefer, a better close up focus distance. Again, Mr Nikonchow: open this mount, tear down the 3rd Party wall!
An interesting lens. But it's weight is much closer to my heavy 16-55mm f2.8 than my lighter 33mm f1.4. I love how my 33mm tucks to my side during hand-carry, whereas I imagine the Viltrox lens would protrude just enough to feel like it might end up bashing into things (like my 16-55mm certainly does). And it's such a wide lens that I wonder what my street subjects might think if they saw it.
Those are the negatives, but it still looks VERY nice. And yeah its 40mm equivalent focal length seems to be gaining popularity. I can see the advantages, but I like how my 33mm's 50mm equivalent more convincingly achieves a portrait feel when needed. My inner idealist keeps telling me that the constraints of a 50mm equivalent can be turned into advantages (who needs lots of background context, eh!)
All of that are compromises, you can’t have all the positives at the same time. I prefer 40mm, I have found it to be much more versatile.
@@TheHybridShooter Yeah. I can see how it's almost the physical personification of the 'equivalence' between crop and full frame sensors, as it brings the camera weight up to full-frame levels but also achieves the same light-gathering and background separation .... at a much lower price. So it's definitely impressive.
And I know I can handle the weight, as I happily spent most of the summer with my 16-55mm (which is I think 95g heavier again) on my X-T5.
But I'll stick with my 33mm currently as its size/weight is in an ideal place for me.
Certainly my 50mm (33mm crop) feels super-tight. I've always like the kind of photojournalism that some classic 50mm photographers achieved (Bresson, Doisneau) but it's making me have to rewire my brian a bit - more into the realm of having just a few key items in the composition rather than the 35mm 'subject and background' pairing. So I find myself looking more for objects in the background, rather than complete backgrounds.
Is it weather sealed?
Yes
It is very tempting to get this on E-Mount when it comes out. However, I am still glad with the purchase of Sigma 30mm f1.4 and the upcoming Viltrox 75mm f1.2
I think sigma has better imaging and is also half the price😊
@@cyano3d it would be at least less redundant for me to get the 75mm for sure.
@@cyano3d which Sigma? They don’t make 27mm F1.2. There is no APS-C lens with “better imaging”, so you think wrong.
@@TheHybridShooter 30mm f1.4
@@cyano3d Sigma’s F1.4 APS-C prime are not on par with the latest Fuji / Viltrox lenses, they can’t fully match 40 MP APS-C sensor.
Did you start using the AI Denoise function in Lightroom? Lots of people confirm that this solves the fuji worm and noise problem for good.
No, I use RAW detail feature in Enhance menu, that solves the artifacts, AI denoise does something different.
Or just don't use Lightroom from skeleton operation locusts Adobe??
Oh god, I’m tired of choosing between 75 and 27 for my crop...
It's good to see that Viltrox is breathing new life into the video capabilities of this lens. Pun intended.
What kind of pre-processing was applied to the pictures? I see their name is 'enhanced' and they are .dng so is this using Adobe AI enhancer?
RAW detail in enhance menu. It gets rid of artifacts in Fuji RAWs.
@@TheHybridShooter thank you for replying. Do you think it also gets rid of a bit of chromatic aberration and increases sharpness? At low ISO fuji artifacts are not that prominent and in a lens review I would love to see the lens with as little processing as possible, especially if it is adobe AI enhancer since their software is always changing in non deterministic ways. In any case, thank you so much for the review and your work, it is good.
@@javierborquez No, there are different features for CA and sharpening in Lightroom. Artifacts are prominent regardless of ISO, the only thing that the RAW detail function does is that it gets rid of those artifacts.
Using RAW detail function is the only way to show the real optical performance of the lenses on Fuji cameras in Lightroom, so I will definitely continue using it in my lens reviews. There is no AI involved, it simply redevelops the RAWs. You're welcome!
The 75mm f1.2 does not have good contrast wide open on my Fuji X-H2. I suspect this is probably the same
This lens looks awesome but it’s huge! I got into mirrorless to have a small compact system. Im also conflicted because I want it😅
Pro line is about providing full frame results, so full frame size is to be expected... If the size is a top priority for you, there is 27mm F2.8 from fujifilm.
How this lens compare with sigma 30 1.4?
Viltrox is optically much better and has wider aperture.
@@TheHybridShooter ouw yeah thx u.. Maybe the problem is viltrox lens heavy
@@okysuharsono419 that is a compromise…
Rookie question: with focus breathing that prominent, at which focusing distance are lenses marked for their focal length? 😮
As far as I know, at infinity.
It’s not available yet
Mayhe a x mount f1.2 50mm lens from viltrox. 😂
Canon Sony Nikon fuji is wondering how he can Rob photographer pocket and Viltrox certain that he is doing a favor to the photography community with the best quality lenses at a very reasonable price.
Love u Viltrox
if f8 already becomes problematic then it isn't ideal for landscape
F8 is more than usable, F5.6 is also completely sufficient for landscapes on APS-C.
27 F2 with autofocus please, ANYONE. F1.2 is amazing but no way I'm gonna haul it on vacation....
Mmm... not so impressed this time. Mostly because the lens is quite big and heavy for apsc. I rather shoot with the new XF23mm f1.4 LM WR w which is smaller, lighter, has better close focus and is as sharp (just a tad wider)
23mm F1.4 is a different focal length and different aperture, not very comparable.
@@TheHybridShooter of course it's not exactly the same FL but quite close, a 23mm is 35mm full frame equivalent and just a quarter of a stop slower. (the Fujinon however can produce similar bokeh since it has much closer focus distance) For me 27-28 mil is a great focal length if you don't own a 23 or 33mm. I rather have a pancake 27-28 f2 than this. APSC is about being smaller, this is basically a full frame lens!
@@jaegerschtulmann Well, the point of this lens is to provide full frame results, so full frame size is hardly a surprise. Difference between F1.2 and F1.4 isn't exactly negligible, it F1.2 lets in 1/3 more light.
I think this would be nice for someone who wants to split the difference between the 23mm f1.4 and 33mm f1.4 and have 1 lens instead of 2. You'll get the better subject isolation and emphasis of the 33mm with a some of the wider angle of the 23mm.
Compare it to Sigma, i feel like sigma is lighter, sharper and half the price
Compare it to which Sigma? They don’t make 27mm F1.2.
@@TheHybridShooter 30mm f1.4 is the closest and also half the price
@@cyano3d Sigma’s F1.4 APS-C prime are not on par with the latest Fuji / Viltrox lenses, they can’t fully match 40 MP APS-C sensor.
@@Eyeofkamau ik that it isnt close to fujinon optics but its hard for me to believe that viltrox is better than sigma :/
@@cyano3d Fortunately, it is well documented, so it actually very easy to believe.
