    Through the good times and the bad times they kept the music genre they created alive and thriving through seven decades. And like the road, the spirit of the Allman Brothers Band goes on forever.

    Gotta love Greggs final answer ,Don't know if this will go on forever , Yes Gregg in the hearts & ears & minds of so many fine fans & players this band & music is timeless & it will go on long after they & we are gone , there will be new guitarists & musicians that will listen & try & inmate the feel they had naturally & many new young folks if they have the mindset we had they will follow right along. We miss Gregg & Duane , Berry , Butch & all the other guys that came through this band that are gone as well . Nothing will top what they did during those fine years of the late 60s & early 70s. Can't beat it & no reason to try.

      Duane died on my 18th birthday, Oct 29. I was in Okinawa and didn't know for some time. I went to every ABB concert that came through Charlotte from 1972 into the 80's. I remember Greg would change the lyrics at the end of Whipping Post. You might have heard him sing, "Lord, there ain't no such thing as dying". In a way, that's probably true but it doesn't lessen the pain.

    Duane, Barry, Butch, Gregg, and Dickey, RIP. Also, RIP to Dave Toler, Dangerous Dan Toler and Allen Woody. Always wishing health and happiness to Jaimoe, Warren Haynes, Johnny Neal, Oteil Burbridge and the great Chuck Leavell. There have been a few others, but these are the members who stand out to me. Thanks to a lifetime of great music from a great band.

      Jack Pearson (who was in the band from 1997-1999) if you please. For me, he came as close to matching Duane's tone like no other. Famously, Dickey said to Gregg, "Gregg, either we hire him or I'm taking lessons off him!"

    What a band. Dickey Betts is phenomenal on the guitar - and those eyes kind and soft.

    • @MDavidG1
      @MDavidG1 Год назад

      Yes, kind and soft most of the time...but Dickey has a REAL temper too. Geniuses are entitled...

    I remember sitting in English class in high school when At Fillmore East came out and someone was playing it in the room next to us. We thought our teacher was going to get mad about it as it was disturbing his class, but instead he went next door and told the student to turn it up!

    No mention of that 1989 4-CD boxset "Dreams" the ABB put out? That was huge! Big sales from it. It helped them usher in the 1990's. Fans were excited again. For me, the set helped fill the gaps of what I didn't have.

      Gregg tells the story of that song. It's not what you think. It's a great story. I think it was Dan Rather interviewing Gregg.

    Don't get me wrong, I really like this LP...I have the CD. But I like the LP after this one a little better: Shades of Two Worlds. Both are great but of the two, Shades of Two Worlds is #1, IMHO.

      @@gimmeanidicanuse I really liked the Betts / Haynes guitar combo, and plus they wrote some great songs together, particularly the instrumentals. There is one great instrumental on each of these LPs, co-written by Betts/Haynes. The songwriting duo, between these two LPs, probably wrote, not the majority of all the tunes, but at least a solid plurality. A really good period for the band.
