Greg was a beautiful guy. Amazing singer and songwriter. He had quite a journey. Looks like he made peace with the world and conquered his demons. We were lucky to be alive while he was on this earth.

He lost his dad to murder when he was around 3yrs old. Then he lost his very close & only sibbling at 20yrs old. Who wouldn't fall into the abyss at some point? But he himself, got clean & sober- when he was ready. This man and his music have been there when I had hard times. I'm thankful he got to enjoy a sober life for some years before we lost him. His book It's Not My Cross to Bear is so interesting. I hope he & Duane are playing with all the others we've lost. That's the concert I'm looking forward to when I get to the other side ❤ 🎶🎵🎶🕊😇🌈🌫
Correct!!!! Manly. Men like him are pretty much gone. Total Southern gentleman. Soft spoken. Said only what " needed" to be said, and didn't feel the need to use swear words constantly to talk. He was out to impress " Noone " !!! He was happy in his skin. But he most certainly impressed. Without trying. True blue. Or Blues should I say. Love ya, Gregg.💔🍑🍄
Just wandered onto this video. Awesome! He speaks so softly that I've held my breath to hear him speak and I didn't breath until the end. Love this man and the legacy he left us. There will never be another Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, or Berry Oakley.

He was so polite and such a perfect gentleman! He always dressed and looked so put together! I never saw an,interview where he was disrespectful no matter what questions were thrown at him about his life. He answered truthfully, Gregg I love you,your music, I adore your laugh, it makes happy and puts a smile on my face. You were a good man, a caring man. Your music has touched millions and will do so for years to come.

Amen my friend. I knew him as well. Such a nice, laid back, quiet guy and unassuming. So easy to talk to and spoke in his slow and thoughtful manner, it made you want to listen to his soothing voice. Always a true Southern Gentleman. I really don't like how so many of these interviewers approach him at all. I've seen some that make me cringe and him too. If you know him, you can see it. Miss you.
Only took me 8 hours to read his book ..i couldnt put it down ..i did cry at the end ...but there was also some laugh out loud moments for me while reading it ..great musician and songwriter ...he was stunningly handsome ..even up to the end ..really miss him and his music ...rest easy Midnight Rider
Gregg had a slow, southern way of speaking, props to your editors for not cutting out his replies as best you could. I can only imagine how much raw footage there was. I miss hearing him, men like him are rare these days.

Alan conducted an excellent interview. It’s such a gift and an art to bring out the best in a guest. He guides Greg but never dominates. Greg was an amazing guy and talent.
I love this man. I love this interview. So honest, so real! He’s smart, talented, funny & a real gentleman. Goes without saying he is the most beautiful looking man that ever lived!! He loved his mama & had the guts to face his flaws & do something about it. I admire that in spite of personal pain he appreciated & was grateful for his life! When I read the book I felt like I was sitting in front of him talking to me. That soft spoken voice when he talks & then there’s the bluesy, unique singing voice I will always remember and cherish! Thank you for giving us a part of yourself & all of your music. Rest In Peace dear man🦋
always knew of some of his music, but wasn't what could be called a true fan. i recently saw his interview with dan rather, however, and was really taken by his demeanor and personality. i now plan to read his book and explore his music more.

I miss seeing Gregg and the Brothers every year, I saw them so many times as a kid growing up and as an adult that it became an actual part of my summertime life. I’m so glad Gregg got right with God, knowing that we are all imperfect and either humble ourselves before God and get eternal life in the next realm or not it’s great that I’ll get to see him again in the next life.
Your comment made me happy ,and sad . I too saw him one or two times from the age of 16 ( I’m 65) until he got sick . The last time we went and watched his live at The House of Blues in New Orleans. I literally loved the man . The man I’ve been married to for 48 years actually introduced me to the band . I met Gregg 6 times and actually had a conversation with him at Starwood in Nashville. 💔
I meant to say one or two times a year . Starting every year in Daytona at Bike Week.
He's a good man you don't fine men like him anymore. Just loved the Allman brothers .

It's so sad that we lost this wonderful musician when we did. He was obviously still suffering the after-effects of his earlier indulgences, when he gave this interview, but at the end of his life he was so true to himself, he didn't make excuses, he said it as it was, and managed to get cleaned up. Bless your heart, and rest in peace Southern Gentleman.
I feel Duane was an inner visionary. What I mean is he had His own vision & version of how a guitar was meant to be played, to hit your heart & soul. Jim, was good, but more theatrical. Duane got deep down to your inner feelings words can't describe. Only his guitar playing could hit that place. Where could they have gone with him? God only knows. They were & still are tremendous without him. I have to guess and say, they probably couldve taken over the music world completely!!! To me they did anyway. My fav group since I first heard Idlewild South when I was 12. Dickie & Jaimoe are all that's left. The sons are now hitting the notes. To me, there will never be another Gregg Allman. All the songs in his head & vault must be boggling. But.....would never want anyone!but Gregg to sing them. Peace. Elyce in Pa.🍑🎸🍄⭐
I agree. Musical geniuses fascinate me. I imagine Duane could envision a song and then play it exactly as he had envisioned. Gregg was the same. That creativity and vision come from somewhere. I personally believe its source is divine, the divine source of all humanity. Thank you.
In 1970 it was the ABB that made this 65 y/o lady pick up a guitar and I still play today😊 I even named my daughter Melissa. Thanks to all the Brothers for your lifetime and of inspiration to become the musician I am til this day. God bless you all💓🎵🎸
Gregg and duane and the abb, Marshall tucker, Charlie Daniels, lynyrd skynyrd, the outlaws, and Molly hatchet was when real rock music was made. Southern rock forever.

Just finished his book. I actually listened to it on Audiobooks and it was hilarious, great narrator. Especially when he would talk about his ex-wives. Poor guy was not good at picking women.
Ive got to get that book. I would love to read or listen to it.

I know we are all created equal, but music has gotten me through my life so, I tend to put those who have kept me in times of good and bad, in a frame of mind to be happy, on a pedestal just a bit higher. I wish I could have met this humble man if only once and spent an afternoon or evening getting to talk and laugh. I don't care if it sounds corny cause I know I'm not the only one who wishes it! Haha! What a great looking man, even in his older years.
One of a kind human, musician, artist and on and on.
I hope the young people see the importance of sobriety.
They'll have to learn for themselves.

I’m a Fan of The Allman Brother’s Band as well Gregg Allman’s .My regrets in Life I didn’t go to one of Gregg’s concerts ..I have watched all his videos on RUclips and I have his cds in my car . I have watched all his interviews .Gregg was a humble person I believe just something about his voice and music haunts me every time I hear his music and watch his interviews .I just can’t explain it .I would had loved meeting Gregg and listen to all his stories while touring state to state.Sitting here watching this interview Gregg loved his brother Duane very much .At times you can see him getting chocked up .Love Gregg just wished he was here I would love to have meet him ..❤️🎸🎶
I am currently reading the book and it's excellent. Thank God Greg had that moment of sanity and recovered for himself and his family and fans. I've loved the Allman Brothers since the '70s and they're excellent and he's a wonderful human being

I’m not a reader but had to get Gregg’s book! I have yet to read from beginning to end, I skip around to things I wasn’t to learn the most about. I am going to read it straight thru, start to finish!!! Thanks to RUclips I’m able to view all kinds of interviews which I have loved learning about the Brothers! I love learning about my all-time favorite band! ♾💞🍊☮️✝️🥰
So many memories such awesome music, so tight the 6 of them sounds like one! I have Enlightened Rogues album done on canvas! My friend who paints for enjoyment out of her heart and mind did it for me, Margie said that was the hardest thing she ever done! Perfect, was done in 1977 and of course she signed it, that’s what “artists” do and I am very thankful and proud to display that in my living room-along with the blood portrait which came in the Southern Blood cd

What a great read. I would argue Will Patton’s narration in the audiobook version makes it an even more INCREDIBLE listen.
Great interview, Gregory! Back in the ABB days, most everyone you visited had records. My good friend Steve would ALWAYS ask if they had Whipping Post, lol. Then he'd seriously groove to it the entire time. He later sort of lived the lyrics. Guys often will never really recover from that first cut, the source of a lot of self destructive behavior.

This interview is far better than the "interview" he had with Howard Stern. Stern and his sidekick talked more than Gregg did. This interviewer just guided the interview and let Gregg do the talking, as it should be.
He has seen so much misery and pain. Repeated death Duane then Berry. Slowed speech due to lengthy drug use. It truly makes me sad; he was such a talented man with a great voice but he never went to med school that was his plan. He never thought the band would make it. Probably because there were so many bands forming back then. Love the story of his writing sweet melissa on an ironing board cover. His wife wasn't pleased.

Just love the man and all he is and has given us. Geez, noone is perfect. I bet yhe demons were difficult to bear and losing ppl close takes a huge toll, esp that young, he had not had insight yet that he grew into.later. I can tell all of u that serious illnesses, on top of each other will take all ur looks, ur hair , ur body and destroy the physical you. I was born w/major damage made worse by a controling, selfish mother. 7 big surgeries on same issue. So much scar tissue a whole nother topic. Liver disease I breathed in at 1st R.N. gig...so did 71 others, all dead rite away but 5 of us. I suffered hard, nit last 4 yrs housebound. Am also an artist who can't do crap anymore. Housebound. Live in jammies bc clothes too painful. It all sux...u pray for death. This all on only 1 pain med and a lil propranolol. Don't judge. I don't have an opiate crisis; just terminally ill.
So our dear Gregory here is sick and it shows in everywhere . He still has his heart, soul and mind. Many ppl lose themselves all the way, but he just kept being himself and didn't let pride get in the way. This is real ppl. Terminal illness is not pretty. But I give him a million props for being his true self and all the effort it takes to get off the couch this sick. I'll always be grateful for all he gave me. He teaches lessons in the book , funny and poignant. We should all be so grateful and not bitter at what God gives us. I am bitter bc none of my isdues were my fault. I'm trying to learn to be me and graceful in my ugly, sick self. I believe it's harder for women to fall apart bc we're all supposed to look like Jane Fonda at 82. That's a hard pill to swallow. So, give Gregory all the respect he deserves and all the love even tho I believe the Lord as him now. Let's all learn and love without judgement. Peace and love .

Something isn't right here with Gregg. I wonder if he was doing chemotherapy at the time of this interview. He seems very tired, and cant remember what he was saying. He is shy, but not that shy, but he does look like he is uncomfortably self conscious. I knew Gregg back at Capricorn where I worked, and there's definitely something amiss here. I'm puzzled. Maybe he was on pain medications from one of his surgeries. I dont know. Does anyone else notice this? Maybe he wasnt feeling well. His eyes just dont look right. The mischievous sparkle that his eyes always had is gone.
maybe just tired, your liver has that affect on you plus he just had numerous surgeries of a few short years
@@mjmack7353 Thanks for your feedback. I dont know if this was before his transplant, or after. I think he was saying this was after the transplant saying he woke up with a "man made beer gut" So I was thinking it was after. It's hard to say. My mother died of liver disease and yes it can do a number on you, even changing your personality drastically, with all the toxins that your liver can no longer filter, floating around in your blood poisoning you literally.
I was just alarmed when I saw this video, I hadn't seen him much in his latter years, and all I know is he was completely washed out before the transplant and then, after, he was robust and doing great, and then slowly declined again, because of the cancer. Anyway I hate to see him like this, and people asking nasty questions (about typecasting), and people snickering when they clearly have no idea what he has been through.
This is one interview he should have passed on. I wonder why he agreed to do this one? Maybe because the interviewer is Paul Light who authored My Cross to Bear and he felt he owed him. However Gregg is righteous and brave in doing so, he must have known he wasn't 100%.
He's clean after a lifetime of drinking & heavy drug use, he had a liver transplant, & he's 65 years old. I think that's why he seems "off." His mind is sharp & he speaks rather eloquently, all things considered. He's just a southern boy who lead a fast, hard life.
Looks like he's on some medication. His pupils are black holes.

@@MattHamann89 Dickey Betts wrote Nobody Left to Run With Anymore but Gregg got to sing it. I don't know if Warren helped Dickey to write it though. Dickey let Gregg sing Southbound, and it was recorded with Gregg on vocals but later Dickey wanted to sing it himself. And Dickey wrote Revival but Gregg sang it. The fact is that Gregg and Dickey never co-wrote even ONE song together, not even that stupid Try It One More Time song, which was sang as a duet. Whoever wrote that song should have been embarrassed. The idea of the duet was the most embarrassing thing I thing I think the band ever did. The lyrics and two guys singing about trying it one more time. The song felt so confusingly gay. I cringe when I listen to the song. Musically it's a good song but lyrically and in the form of a duet it was SO CONFUSING. Was the song about two guys trying to make the band work again, or two separate guys trying to fix their love life with two separate women?

Loved the Allman Brothers Band. So sad to see a musical genius meander through this conversation with a brain destroyed by drugs and alcohol. RIP Gregg.
Well, he seems to be under the influence of something here, and in other ones I've seen.
Gregg looks and sounds so sluggish, like he was on medication.
This was 2 years ago. Probably not too long before he died. He was getting in bad health here. Weak and slowing down from age and illness. He was almost frail looking.

Sure that he was medicated, as he just had a hernia operation and liver replacement. Knew him quite well.
I know he had health issues towards the end of his life, and I assume all the drugs and drinking he did when he was younger affected him. Plus he was a quiet and shy person.
I wanna know about all the women he nailed during the 73-74 touring lol

Noah Marine long story.........he escaped Sierra Tucson a treatment facility in Tucson and ended up in our restaurant, he got shitfaced drunk a got me in the men's room and offered me ten grand to hit him in the face,I refused and he swung at me ,I spun him around and got him in a choke hold and he started crying like a baby. Treatment officials and the cops had to get a warrant to come in and arrest him and he promised all kinds of stuff but I wanted no part of it.

Noah Marine got his autograph and he wrote '89 but in all honesty I believe it was 1990, multiple people witnessed this day, it was insane. The old Italian woman who owned the restaurant just wanted to talk about Cher. But I was in shock......I should've knocked the fucker out but I couldn't.He tried to give his boots with spurs cause I commented that they were bad ass but I was like no way man am I gonna take your boots off your feet so he was like gimme your address and I'll send you a pair, I was like ok Gregg thanks man and when all was said and done when we cleared his table there was my address on the piece of paper crumpled up in the dishes. Not that I cared cause I really didn't not a cowboy boot fan, but it was the principal of one of my heros.....larger than life is an ass
