    A brown band on an orchid doesnt necessarily mean its male from my experience raising them
    . Orchids are tricky to mate because the males mature twice as fast as the females. Also the males get skittish at feeding time. Mantid Kingdom has many different species in stock currently (10/6/2019) but they go fast!!!

    Hi I got my first African mantis today (my first mantis ever) he’s about the size of 3 of my fingers but when I put him in his cage he just stood in the corner for a while doing nothing so I left him and he is now hanging from the roof is this normal?

    • @MantisMavic
      @MantisMavic  6 лет назад +1

      Sage Naruto Hello. Thank you for your comment. If any mantis is hanging from the roof of it’s cage it’s most likely about to molt, or shed it’s exoskeleton. Try to remove all other insects from the cage and increase the humidity to insure a proper molt. Make sure not to touch the cage or open while the mantis is molting. This will either cause it to fall or have a mis molt. Good luck and if you have any other questions be sure to ask.

      Mantis Mavic Thanks so much for the reply! I have a problem though he’s currently on the roof but there is 2 dead crickets and 1 live one in there what should I do if he is moulting?

      Mantis Mavic also I live in the uk should I go get a heat mat tomorrow or will it be ok thanks in advance

      Sage Naruto First if you can see the exoskeleton coming off of him don’t touch anything let him be. Just wait for the new Skelton to harden and remove the 2 dead crickets. If he’s just sitting up at the top slowly open the cage and take out the crickets. Also spray some water into the bottom of the cage but not on the mantis.
      Second I was fine in the Northeastern part of America with cold temperatures for my African Mantids. All the weather did was slow down their growing but it increased their lifespan. So unless you want to speed up growing for your mantis don’t waste the money. If you have any other questions just ask.

    I just wanted to share my experience with Mantid Kingdom here as well. Last week, my orchid mantis arrived on Tuesday but ended up dying two days later. Everything seemed perfect and I didn't seem to be doing anything wrong, I measured the temperature, humidity, etc. I'm going to assume it wasn't Mantid Kingdom's fault at all for the death, but he has stopped responding to any of my emails, even before I received my mantis, which ended up being really fustrating. I'm going to be a spiny flower mantis instead this Thursday, but not from Mantid Kingdom from now on.

      +Zelda That's too bad. I had almost the same thing happen to me with moonlight Mantis. Except I bought a blue winged mantis. It died 3 days later and he messaged me for a bit but then he stopped. I still buy from him now but I was angry at the time. Sometimes you just get the wrong mantis.
      If you are new to mantis raising I could make a video on how to care for young Spiny flowers. I've kept them for 4 months now. Thanks for the comment.

      Pretty nervous now, i just ordered a violin mantis from them. hopefully it goes well

    • @MantisMavic
      @MantisMavic  6 лет назад +1

      cozymoth I've ordered 5 violins from them and about 3 are alive now. They had mismolts and died. So it's more my fault.

    • @cozymoth

      I just received them, any tips on how to make sure they molt right?

    • @MantisMavic
      @MantisMavic  6 лет назад +2

      cozymoth That's great that you got them! To help with molting, violins need light misting once every 3ish days. They are a *very* dry species. Never get them too wet. The water will weight them down or stress them out. I have them in a 12x12x12 net cage from Mantiskingdom and I give a light misting from above. That should raise the humidity enough.
      If they start drinking from the net, give them another spray. If you see them stop eating that means they are close to molting, make sure to spray mist then to insure a successful molt.
      If you need anything else just ask!
