Where did you learn the tactics of tennis Gil? your analysis of this match is so good, better than any of the TV analysts i've watched over the years. Amazing and can't wait until you're in the booth.

I think there are few analysts who've been carefully and thoroughly analyzing tactics for an entire match without having to commentate on it for as long as Gill has. Completely agree with your sentiment. Please keep doing what you're doing Gill! It's a valuable niche IMO.

    • @MegaGo68
      @MegaGo68 17 дней назад +7

Gill is too technical for the booth, but on the other hand his authority, presence, and command of language will take him far, and he can tone down some of the overly detailed wonkery for a general audience. He has a bright future as a commentator.

@@MegaGo68That’s the thing about sports media and commentators: they often don’t really have the best knowledge of their sport. Most NBA analysts don’t know anything further than a pick-and-roll. They sound like me hungover on a Saturday morning looking at the box score of the Friday night game and coming to a conclusion.
I understand that the average casual fan doesn’t really care about the in-depth tactics, so commentators like to keep things quick and focus on calling out obvious things. But I don’t understand why analysts don’t go in more depth the way Gill does. If you’re watching Tennis Channel for analysis, you are probably a hardcore fan who wants to hear about how Musetti’s slice neutralized Fritz.
NBA analysis is particularly horrible with clowns like Stephen A and Skip Bayless who know nothing about the sport and are just there to yell loudly and hate on players

Interesting intro Gil. I would have never thought that Fritz was the favourite to win, thought you are totally right given the context of both.

4 years ago Mussetti was 18, the 5 years gap between the two make a big difference in expieriece, but Fritz is one dimensional in his game and I think that is nor a thing that he can change. So Mussetti is advancing well for his age, he already was 15 in the world and really has the top 10 material, he lost the path for a time but he is on tranck again.

Djokovic taking out Hurkacz & Zverev & Diminaur is just on another level, they surely freaked out when they saw they had to play Novak and hence the stress & bad play, especially De minaur.. that whooping he got last time they faced in a slam must've flashed through his mind as he was playing totally overwhelming him
Or maybe I'm wrong & it was Fils that did that to both Hurkacz and Alex, if so this guy might be a GOAT in the making to extract two injures from both top 10 players is insane. Just look at this guys firepower it was really damaging his opponents, in the future he might just get walkovers to trophies.

Fritz is like a more level-headed Rublev, with a better serve, but so limited in the natural talent department! Very subpar at the net, some decent dropshots once in a while, but it all looks so clunky. Movement has gotten better, but still nothing to write home about!
Musetti, however, has the touch, variety more natural talent, and way better movement! Mentally, he still can improve, but he is way closer in my opinion to unlocking his full potential than Fritz..

I hoped, that this year WTA/ATP/ITF, would stop this nonsense of mixing sport with politics.
Every player should have right to play under her/his country's flag. One cannot choose the country of one's birth.
Appointing "flag police" at tennis tournaments is not even childish... it is embarrassing and insane...
Wars are run by politicians not sportsmen/sportswomen.
Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Pakistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag?
USA invaded Iraq in 2003 and yet their flag was still allowed at the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa despite the fact they were still in Iraq.
Either ban ALL flags of countries who go to war, or don't ban any of them.
Interestingly enough Israeli tennis players Mika Buchnik and Guy Sasson are allowed to play under the national flag in AO 2024 despite the policy of their government towards Palestinians in Gaza.
