Must have been insane at Donington that year. Kiss, Megadeth & Guns N Roses with Maiden headlining. What a lineup. Metallica also played on the Monsters of Rock bill in europe that year, opening for Maiden who were the headliners of the European Monsters of Rock Festival(s). Sad that 2 (or was it 3?) fans died during Guns N Roses set, the guys in Maiden weren't told (by their manager) until after their set, because he (the manager, Rod Smallwood) didn't want to spoil their set.. This tragic accident led to large crows being split in two (and sometimes four) to avoid people in the front being stamped to death if the crowd suddenly surged towards the stage, as had happened that day.

Great reaction video to a fantastic song. I enjoy playing it on my guitar to this day. Me and my best buddy were at that Monsters of Rock festival at Donington, England in 1988. It was super crazy and lots of fun but marred by the tragic death of about 2 people when some stage scaffolding collapsed at the front. The was over 100,000 in attendance and at times it was chaotic and somewhat dangerous looking back; lots of crowd crushes and surging forward towards the stage. One of my favorite Maiden songs, and definitely my favorite from the Seventh Son album. I feel like it’s their most atmospheric song. I love the guitar line behind his vocals when the verse starts.

I've been lucky to see them live quite a few times. That's one thing you must do. They are amazing live. Just the best
The Clairvoyant have been one of my top Iron Maiden songs since the day I heard it, literally the day after Seventh Sonf Of A Seventh Son was released in 1988. I was in my eighth grade band class and our teacher was out so we basically had a free period because the substitute wasn’t a musician. It was also the last period of the school day. My friend Jerry had just got it the day before and of course he commandeered the stereo, popped in the cassette and boom… mind blown. I was already an Iron Maiden fan by then. It was just that experience was so memorable and I adore the album to this day. A Seventh Son listening party sounds like a great idea! Thank you Doug. Love the Maiden Mondays.
THANK YOU Doug !! My favorite 3-piece by Maiden, by far: SSoaSS + The Prophecy + The Clairvoyant I have listened to these three 3 songs over and over in car, in the house... everywhere.
the maiden england recording was a powerful concert. back in 1990 when i got it on VHS it single handedly made me want to play bass guitar. at the time as a kid i knew i wanted to play an instrument but i didnt know wich i wanted to play. seeing harris doing his thing up there sealed the deal for me. wasn't able to get a bass guitar till 93 though , after our house burned down. december of 93 mother got us a big christmas to make up for us losing every thing in the fire.
Yes full 7th son would be amazing. Moonchild is where it starts. Then you understand why the clairvoyant, the prophecy , infinite dreams, and then the 7th son come in to play. Its conceptual from start to finish. DO IT DOUG.!!
One of the most interesting channels on RUclips. Given me a new perspective on Iron Maiden for sure. Used to focus a lot on their longer/later era songs penned mainly by Gers/Harris, which tend to be harmonically simpler but (at least I felt) lyrically more mature, like for example The Talisman, Dance of Death, The Legacy.
To me it's akin to clairvoyance how Doug knows immediately the keys and chords! Also it's so cool to see a pro getting giddy about something they hear for the first time!
I absolutely adore this song. Probably in my top ten Maiden tracks. Just a blast to listen to. A full Seventh Son listen seems a bit redundant, you've already listened to half the album. As it's clear you really like this album you should check out more from Somewhere In Time. It's the most similar in feel to Seventh Son, IMO, which makes sense since it's the one they made right before Seventh Son. My favorite is Powerslave, but then Seventh Son and Somewhere In Time are my second and third faves.
Casually listening to a song for the first time, and playing the solo and the chorus on piano in a very relaxed way. Very impressive, Doug! Thanks for the song, one of the many excellent iron maiden songs!
This song is one of my favorites! I hope you react to the entire Seventh Son album! it's great! It's amazing how good Iron Maiden songs sound on piano! I'm sorta obsessed with finding covers with just piano!
Like I said in other videos you have released...Do a reaction on the entire album! I appreciate the work that you do. It's so refreshing to hear a new listener react to music that has been appreciated by Maiden fans for so many years!

Loved this. But ahhh another Maiden Monday and another time I'm gonna request Isle of Avalon. Or Starblind. Or the Talisman. Basically anything from the second half of The Final Frontier!! You'd love them Doug!
What a fine song this is ! And how easy you got into it with your piano, it´s just amazing to watch. Keep´em comin´! And as many have suggested, you should do some of Bruce Dickinson´s solo stuff, there are gems there, quite different from Maiden with the wonderful voice of him. Some songs come to mind: Jerusalem, Book Of Thel, Darkside Of Aquarius, quite recommended.
Doug, I love your vids man. And you are a real nice chap - and obviously very talented. Always searching and interested. Plus you have done two of my favourite Maiden tunes. The Clairvoyant, and The Prophecy. Thank you!
Great stuff! Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, was always one of my top favourite albums of Iron Maiden! Going through the entire album would be great! :-)
I think that might've been my first Maiden record, the 12" single, for a Christmas present, I think. Before then, my bro had most of them. I loved the B-side far more, though, a live cut from that Donnington gig of them doing The Prisoner (It's also not in Em!). Great to hear you're going to do Patreon, I will probably join that :)
Seventh Son was, IMO, and still is Maiden's best album. From A to Z. It has that special feeling and not a single weak song. Keep the Maiden Monday, Doug. It makes my Mondays happier for sure. A suggestion if I may. Finnish band Wintersun. The song is Time, live rehearsal from Sonicpump studio. You will be blown away. I guarantee you. It is jampacked with musical goodies 😊🤘
The whole album is inspired on the Orson Scott card novels in case you didn't know. A fantastic piece of literature, really. Thank you Doug you made me dive back into this great band and it feels good!
- Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son ✅ - The Prophecy ✅ - Infinite Dreams ✅ - The Clairvoyant ✅ I think it's time for either "Can I Play With Madness" or "The Evil That Man Do". Or, if you want to check another classic D Major Maiden song, "The Number Of The Beast" is the one to go. 🙂
Love the lyrics to this one. In general Maiden's lyrics are good but there is a few tracks over the years that stand out. This one and 2 minutes to midnight always come to mind among the best.
i saw maiden in 90 at birmingham NEC and then again in Donnington 92 (was recorded for the live 92 album) and the Donnington festival was the best ive heard them, the festival you saw was Donnington 88.

Such a great song. One of their best, and it sounds great on the piano too Doug!
Thank you, personally my favorite maiden song. I've seen them 18 times at this point
Casually listening to a song for the first time, and playing the solo and the chorus on piano in a very relaxed way.
Very impressive, Doug! Thanks for the song, one of the many excellent iron maiden songs!
Yeah. Would love to see him do a vid where he plays along for the whole song
This song is one of my favorites! I hope you react to the entire Seventh Son album! it's great! It's amazing how good Iron Maiden songs sound on piano! I'm sorta obsessed with finding covers with just piano!
I've been a fan of Maiden since about '83. "Seventh Son..." is my favorite album of theirs, for sure. Thanks for the video, Doug!!
This is one of my all time favourite maiden tracks... Just for the sheer energy in it!
I just love these Maiden Mondays. Keep them coming 👍
Like I said in other videos you have released...Do a reaction on the entire album! I appreciate the work that you do. It's so refreshing to hear a new listener react to music that has been appreciated by Maiden fans for so many years!
Amazing!!cheers from
Brazil UP THE IRONS
Thank you Doug, this is one of my favorites.
It's a beautiful solo! Dave could really nail things at that time in a thoughtful way.
And Bruce D. is a super accomplished pilot and has flown the band around the world in their 747!
Check out 'The Thin Line Between Love and Hate' for a very under-rated and under-appreciated epic Maiden Song!
True ☝🏼☝🏼 one of their best solos!! And song is so good it has two choruses 🤣🤣
Master Fucking Piece!!!
Agreed!
100% agree! Such a master piece
Another epic from Maiden. Phenomenal song. \m/
Been a favorite of mine since hearing it in 88. Keep up the good work and Up the Irons🤘
Maiden Monday is clearly your biggest day!!!
#UpTheIrons.
Also it looks like Iron Maiden have a viral campaign for a new album. July 15th we will find out. I hope you can do their new material when they release it.
#WOTW Writing On the Wall
Really like when He easily laying chords, that fits song perfectly! Awesome :)
I was at that gig, and it was mind blowing (for good reasons and bad). Maiden were simply amazing.
Loved this. But ahhh another Maiden Monday and another time I'm gonna request Isle of Avalon. Or Starblind. Or the Talisman. Basically anything from the second half of The Final Frontier!!
You'd love them Doug!
I second this very emphatically.
Seconded. I would personally prefer Isle of Avalon or The Talisman, but damn The Final Frontier as a whole is criminally underappreciated.
@@Antares-dw9iv Where the Wild Winds Blow would also be a great pick.
Yes! I said the same a few weeks ago. The second half of the album is without comparison, Isle of Avalon and Starblind in particular
Yeah, that stuff is really doug's style
Didn't make Donington (Monsters of Rock) that year but saw Maiden play this in Whitley Bay the same year (1988) Absolutely Brilliant.
The Red and The Black (studio version) is great
I really enjoyed that Dave...you have some great ideas for the future.....thank you!
Iron Maiden playing Paschendale live in Dortmund during the Death on the Road tour is a must.
he already did
@@hermanvzyl ... he did the song, but using the studio version ;-)
"Play along" is what hooked me to the channel!
Great video Doug. This truly is an epic Maiden album! Please give Afraid to Shoot Strangers a try for next Maiden monday
- Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son ✅
- The Prophecy ✅
- Infinite Dreams ✅
- The Clairvoyant ✅
I think it's time for either "Can I Play With Madness" or "The Evil That Man Do". Or, if you want to check another classic D Major Maiden song, "The Number Of The Beast" is the one to go. 🙂
I was there in 88 - what a day all the bands other than kiss where exceptional
Was there I found Kiss kind of boring so walked to back of the crowd and really happy I did cos looking down over 100,000 Metal Heads was awesome!
@@MetalDragon42 totally agree - bored the shit out of me
Kiss is the worst.
I went to the warm up gig and donnington…😁
Love the lyrics to this one. In general Maiden's lyrics are good but there is a few tracks over the years that stand out. This one and 2 minutes to midnight always come to mind among the best.
So many good songs left, The Prisoner, Sun and Steel, The Duellists, Revelations, Flight Of Icarus..
I was at that concert and I was 14 years old it was awsome show my second concert. dio was my first on the dream evil tour. Two amazing frontme.
i saw maiden in 90 at birmingham NEC and then again in Donnington 92 (was recorded for the live 92 album) and the Donnington festival was the best ive heard them, the festival you saw was Donnington 88.
