John, you made me laugh out loud when you called yourself a "jammy swine", that is a real beauty! What a wonderful treasure to find. That makes up for having to deal with that rough walking plowed field. I also loved the coins you found. Well done John!!
19:40 An electric wire crimp terminal. Was there an electric fence nearby? The gold pendant- the weight end for a pocket watch in a stylised version of the owners lady love, in a hooped dress, to keep her (metaphorically) close to his heart. As the model has no actual head, the face could well be of she who presented the piece. I wear pocket watches now so am learning some of the history and symbology.
Great day treasure hunting, John! The red stones found in your area are called Pyrope Garnets and Garnets. The stone on the wax stamp could be one of those.
There is also the lost field of agates (chalcedony family i think), i think possibly with ww1 & 2 it just fell out of importance, maybe the people that know keep it quiet. Like you say there are Garnets up that way, Ruby bay on the east coast.
Congrats, John! Well done on your subscriber numbers and the lovely little gold seal stamp. Nothing sniffs out the tiny treasure like the XP Deus 2, and a good detectorist of course.
Thanks Ravendale. I had an XP Goldmaxx power v4 previously for two years and now the XP DEUS II for a year and I have to say they are fantastic detectors. Really amazing especially at the small targets, they love gold too and are just fantastic detectors! Best wishes and see you on the next!
You're such a lucky guy!!! 👍 Maybe I should ask you to fill out a lottery ticket for me. 😂 Hmm, the red stone in the cute gold charm/pendant... Probably wouldn't be bloodstone (also called Heliotrope), as that's green with just some red speckles. Carnelian is possible, but most often looks more like an orange-y/brownish red (at least the ones I have in my mineral collection do). I'd tend to think it could be garnet. Ruby is red, too, but in that color intensity probably too expensive. Garnet, however, was very often used in jewelry in the era you mentioned the pendant could be from. The mudlarkers also often find it in the Thames down in London. And the shade of red would fit as well. I have some tiny garnet pieces and they have that color. Whatever it is, it's a very beautiful find once again! 🤩
I started watching your videos 4 months ago, I liked them so I went back to your first video and watched them in order. I've just caught up. Great channel. I'm in New Zealand so I don't get to find old stuff as our country is too young.
What a great day for you John. You are definitely my favorite Scottish detector. I’d enjoy having you and my favorite USA guys together. Now…about those voices…it’s us enjoying your finds!😂😂😂
What an incredible find... and funny that the mudlarkers 'kit and caboodle' found an intagglio (if that's what they're called?) on the video they put out today, they were talking about the history of them, there was some good information on them if you want to check it out. They said those are for wax seals ( the one they found was for ink (the design raised) made of bloodstone. Another great day, so pleased for you, well found !
At 3:24 on the electrical fitting, on the right hand end at the top, there is a faint, pale circular shape. Sometimes the contact point of a switch, for industrial electrical fittings, is a small circle of silver. There is one piece on either side of the switch, because of the greater electrical conduction of silver. VERY rarely, it is platinum or even a platinum and iridium alloy.
You found an intaglio pendant! Beautiful. Could be Georgian or Victorian. Well done. 👏🏻 The marks on the case (cc) is probably a maker’s mark and the crown seems to indicate that it is silver.
I would be very interested in finding out when that little gold dress with the intaglio stone is from. It looks much newer to me but maybe jewelers were that good back then! You work very hard to bring us all this history, you deserve all those subscribers .
Hey John, you're a handsome devil without the beany on!!! 😂😂👍😉The lead thing with "Pull To Open" may be a very late form of bag seal. as there is a slot running through it, apparently. A similar one was found in Colchester. Nice sixpence. I have an Onyx ring with that 'Roma' design on it, but that is only some 30 years old. Nice find my friend, lovely colour.👍👍😉
Wow! That intaglio fob is beautiful! No wonder you were so excited! Gorgeous find! Well done!. The rectangular piece of lead you found next after this find seemed to have a T on it, but I may be mistaken.
Fabulous find! 9k gold started being produced in the UK in 1854, so I believe this beautiful fob would have been made after that date. By the way, you made me laugh out loud with 'Is it Excalibur?' 😆 And just a thought... it may be worth your while to get some acids for testing silver and gold, they're not very expensive and I find them easy to use. That way you would know for sure about the (possible) cigarette case.
Brilliant work John! Yet again. Greek goddess Athena bust with the spear below by the look of it although you might be right - possibly Minerva/Roma. 100% a fob seal. Beautifully made and looks like it has a bit of weight too so very valuable. The sterling silver case has multiple hallmarks. CC of course, then three below it - the lion passant on the left (can't resolve if facing left), possibly the pre-1820 London crowned leopard mark, and another on right presumably date. Top right might be another crown and I can vaguely see scratched letters/numbers too near the hinge. On the outside of the case is definitely some kind of engraving in the middle. Needs a microscope I think to resolve any more. Awesome!
So cool!! I wonder if the intaglio could be the head of Hermes? He was the gods’ messenger and was connected with speed and travelers, so it would make sense to have his likeness on a sealed envelope that was meant to travel speedily to its destination, right? You said it looked Roman, but the Victorians were pretty big on the Hellenistic aesthetic. I believe the period between 1830-1860 is actually called the Victorian Greek Revival, so it could fit! I think I may even see wings on the helmet 🧐 What a gorgeous find - love your videos!
I would say that that gold fob is a Roman seal. What a BEAUTIFUL find. Truly amazing relic. Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend. WOOHOO! I think that’s one of your most awesome finds.
Congratulations on 22.7K! The gold seal is beautiful. My first thought was it's a garnet, but in the light box, I wonder if it's a ruby. The depth of color and the fact the intaglio and face of the stone are in perfect condition without any scratches makes me think it might be ruby. Ruby is a 9 on the Mohs scale, only diamond can scratch it, but garnet is a 7.5 Mohs, which can be scratched by quartz. I think rolling around in that field for 100 years or so would have noticably scratched a garnet. I'm rather surprised your jeweler friend didn't ID the stone.
Claggy field it may have been, and hard sloggin', but that signet/seal with a Greek warrior, I thought, maybe Achilles, was a stunning find! It's very gratifying to watch your content, mate, almost as if I found these treasures myself! Excellent day of detecting! 🐗😍
John, you found a signet, that looks like it is carved out of a Garnet. It HAS to be gold, because it doesn't have a speck of tarnish on it, and we all know that gold does not tarnish and it was certainly designed to be used as part of a letter writing seal, pressed into wax. Most times they were put into rings so you had a signet ring, but that is a Fob, and they hung them from their pocket watch chains! You can still get them but you have to ask for a signet to be put into your fob. And it is far too dark a red to be Carnelian I personally think it is a Garnet, both the Fob and the Garnet are in perfect condition, now you need to go and get yourself a pocket watch and have that Fob put onto the chain! You Lucky jerk! I am SO GREEN with Envy!!! First he finds a white gold ring with a sapphire and diamonds then he finds a yellow gold Fob with a signet carved into a Garnet set into it! I think I'm going to have to get myself a Deus II and go metal detecting! Schmuck! LOL

it is 5 years since the new quid coin came out, seems longer though, as for the knife, 20th century for sure with the bakalite, could get the blades replaced and it restored, 20.00 is an electrical connector, the intaglia pendant looks great, awesome find

Especially when it is a precious item that hints at life experiences. Coins are excellent, but I really love the unique things you find. The peacock is awesome, but then I am somewhat obsessed with them. Now that little charm you found is so stunning!!
Hello I think the chunk of lead you found right after the intaglio (about 30 min) had large letters T Y on it (the adrenaline rush may have hidden them...thanks for sharing a great day and a wonderful relic find. Could the cigarette case lid been enameled? the lines would have shown through the enamel...flashy. Could be silver enameled. Was just watching recent vids of mud larking with kit and caboodlers channel, they found a cigarette case panel with similar lines on the Thames... Also, they picked up an intaglio at their local shop made of bloodstone (green and red). I think your seal too uniform a red for bloodstone...Carnelian seems very likely. Amazing day Good luck at the event (unless we see you before then)

That bit at the 20:00 mark looks very much like an electrical lug. Wire goes in the round end, crimped and it gets attached via screw to something.
What an interesting and varied metal detecting adventure. The the gold fob intaglio is absolutely stunning. Good job!
Great day treasure hunting, John! The red stones found in your area are called Pyrope Garnets and Garnets. The stone on the wax stamp could be one of those.
I agree: many fob seals have carnelian intaglia, but that stone is too pink, it does look exactly like garnet. What a beautiful find.

Carnelian tends to be more red-orange. I agree with the garnet guesses. Beautiful!
