John “the myth the legend “ what a great day need I say more, myself Sue and the lads enjoyed your company in the fields, it was a pleasure to meet your wife and Jura also. Your reaction when you dug that ring had me laughing,we couldn’t have kicked you off the island if we wanted to,the tide was in 😂 Take care my friend and see you soon in the fields of ?
One of my favourite places in the world! ❤ We spent a week on Lindisfarne several years ago. A truly wonderful place. Hearing the seals singing in the early hours was just magical!
Had a fantastic day out , that's twice you have made my day twice this year now, hope to see you again on a future dig, wish I could have stayed a bit longer but sadly I'm limited with my knee operation, well done on your finds and loverly to meet your wife, keep up the great work and all the best for the new year
John must admit bud your the complete detectorist your knowledge is unrivalled.Everyone comes to you with there finds your like an encyclopaedia on history. All the very best 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴
Cracking video John, I’ve been waiting for this one! It was great to meet you, throughly enjoyed detecting with you and the quick pint afterwards. Well done on the gold! Best wishes Ian.
@ there’s always tonnes of finds on there Grey. I had a beautiful George 1 half penny the first time on there. A small piece broken off but pristine otherwise. I KNOW that Saxon penny is on there!! 😉
Thanks again John for quite the adventure. I've been to Holy Island but never had the chance to detect. I agree with your obs about the Deus headphones. I use the larger over the ear, but even they are painful after a while, especially if you have to wear glasses!
John, I stumbled upon your channel earlier this year just prior to the Hoover Boy invasion and I still don’t understand how you go home from these fields at night mate. I’d have a heck of a time sleeping with all those relics, gold and silver coins calling out to me. Let’s make 2025 extra great! ❤❤❤❤
What a great day you’ve had John, it seems you’ve gone from one great place to detect in Perthshire to another in Lindisfarne A smashing video with some lovely finds and congratulations on the gold ring well done.
Hello John, I watch re-runs of re-runs of your videos. It is amazing what you can find, and I so much enjoy the history that you share with me and others. Wishing you and Yours a Guid Hogmanay and a Safe, Healthy and Happy New Year. All the best, Elizabeth (originally from Glasgow, now living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) still have my accent.
Hi Elizabeth. Thanks for the kind words and I’m so happy you enjoy my channel! Hope you had a great Christmas and I wish you a fantastic 2025!! Also a Glaswegian by birth! Glad you’ve kept the accent
I love your videos! (American here) My daughter got her Masters in Public Health from the University of Glasgow 2 years ago, and when we visited her I couldn't help but look out at the fields around Sterling and Edinborough and wonder what treasures were waiting to be found. Thanks for answering my questions. Best wishes for the New Year, John! Iooking forward to more vicarious digs!
What an amazing dig and how wonderful to have friends and your wife and dog along. I’ve just recently visited the Bamburgh Castle area and it was as beautiful as your video shows it to be. Thank you for sharing this with us. What a very pleasant Christmas gift!
really enjoyed that, John! Been to the Holy Island so many times as 'tourist' (I'm from Haddington). What a great opportunity for you! Thanks again and enjoy Hogmanay!
Hi John, I saved his to watch at breakfast...Wow what a beautiful place and sunset! I always love the thimbles and would love to know about your golden ring...Thanks for sharing!! x Cathy
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years! Thanks for the memories of Holy Island, i was there in the late 1990s. You are close to Bamburg Castle and the town of Sea Houses.a beautiful area.
Lindisfarne is one of my most special places on Earth. I'm a Geordie now living in Australia. But a fond memory for my Australian wife and I was when I took her there Christmas day 2010...I thought it was a chilly -10C with wind chill feeling more like -20C ...My tropical orchid of a dear lady almost did the crashed helicopter pilot scene from 'The Day After Tomorrow' and froze on the spot upon opening the car door. 🤣. Superb vid mate...Have a wonderful 2025.
Well, you're going to have to pull something out of the first hole to top that one, John!! Fantastic location . Happy New Year to you and your good lady.
Man you guys got all the history over there great finds. New to your channel 2nd 1 I seen realy like the way you explain everything and show the details of the coins I may have a cr coin but it's real faint bin looking it over for many years now ill have to get it out to see if I can find any of the details you shared cool stuff thanks.ill be looking for your next vidio
Oh John what a day this was one of the places I wanted to gain permission most for starting my metal detecting journey In the new year I’ve been saying it in my head for a year now while doing research “ holy island “ 😅 well played hope I can get on there one day soon as a novice 🤞 I’m just in Wallsend and only about an hour away, what a day! Merry Christmas mate and have a cracking new year roomer has it the monks buried at load of treasure a few miles away in a place called 🤫🤫 while running from the Vikings
Plenty of targets. It’s hardly been detected! Though apparently the other half of the island has had a few rallies but not this half. Merry Christmas 🎅🏻
When ever you leave Pertshire... you strike gold... Uuuu lucky guyyy... C'mooon! Nice present for Christmas :) Rock and roll John! Cheers from your sotuh European friends..
Happy Christmas John and what luck beautiful Lindisfarne brought you❤️ just love Northumberland and Bamburgh castle. Such a historic place not unlike Scotland. Really enjoyed your video and the gorgeous gold ring 🥳🥳🥳🤩🤩🤩 Where was your gold dance 🕺? Great finds. Have you tried the WSA11 headphones for D2? They’re really comfy and keep your ears warm!! 😊 All the best to you and your family and stay healthy ❤️
Thank you for taking us with you to Lindisfarne. Please let us know what you find out about the ring and the possible dagger chape. That sunset is breathtaking! I hope that you had a happy Christmas.
Lovely finds Jocky, and very beautiful scenery ( if a wee bit windy) Well done. I hope ye’ve had a good Christmas and all the best for the New Year 👍👍👍👍👍
As Always Great Video, finds & Info. Forgive me for being picky but the Show Was the 'Last Kingdom' not 'Vikings' ( but right period..!) Reason I know, is it Mentions Beomfloot or Benfleet. I grew up there from the 1960's to 1980. And would walk through St. MARYS Church, (supposed to be built on the Battle Site.!? Can't be sure, I wasn't there Thankfully.!) I would walk throu the church ground as a short cut to the Station. Or the Hoy & Helmet pub, best in Benfleet if you ask me..! Pub & Church. As Always a Great Dig. Thank you..! Cheers from Downunder ❤🦎✌🦘😎
Merry Christmas John and best of luck in the coming new year! I half expected a wee history lesson on Lindisfarne's history with the Vikings. Isn't that the first place they landed?
John, thanks for another year of fabulous videos. I've laughed and as always, learned a lot. Wishing you and yours a coming year of good health and happy times 🙏🥳🍻👨🦯
You are prolific going out and having so many hunts! Especially on Christmas and this weather it is also cloudy early looking and the island you are on. Lindisfarne . I have heard of it not knowing where it is and off the coast that's amazing to me pal
Can you go into more detail sometime on the treasure trove process? How do you determine what gets submitted? Do England and Scotland have separate processes? Great video, as always!
What amazing finds! Congratulations. WOW Lindisfarne?! What a bucket list place to be able to visit and detect! By the way the name of the show with Utred of Bebbanburg is "The Last Kingdom" not Vikings 😊 Great show!
I haven't seen all of Vikings and didn't realize he was covered in it. Makes sense, though. Uhtred is also a main character in The Last Kingdom. I'd recommend watching it, as well. What a great day detecting, sir! By the way, when you enter the U.S., the customs form asks if you've walked through any pastures while in the U.K. 100% of all people lie on that answer! I have no idea what happens to you if you say, "Yes." I think it's a Mad Cow disease relic.
great video bloke love the content, would love to see a video showing off all of your finds, also I noticed that you dated the first George 3 penny you found in between 1760-1820, you have found a fair few them and they are dated between 1799-1808, the older coins had a different bust and Britannia and they didn’t make any coppers after 1808 with George 3 on them, they started making coppers again in 1825 with George 4, just thought I would share!

What a great day you’ve had John, it seems you’ve gone from one great place to detect in Perthshire to another in Lindisfarne
A smashing video with some lovely finds and congratulations on the gold ring well done.
Really love the editing trick you use to fade in the example coin image while you’re holding the fresh dug coin in the field. That’s really effective.

The great yellow mango at 14:00 might be a weight for a submarine net. The copper plate at 20:00 might be a bit of ship's hull sheathing.
That picture is timeless.
